Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Again I had similar issues. You need to fully unpair the watch and phone. Go into Bluetooth settings on your phone, not just the connect app, and forget the watch. You need to unpair completely.

Then when it is completely forgotten , pair up again, but not through the Bluetooth settings on the phone. Just pair it through the Garmin connect app.

Thanks! Got it sorted just before you posted that, followed some instructions on Reddit. Here's to hoping that'll be the last of the problem.

Another question, can the pace sometimes be a bit off when the watch is brand new? Went for my first run on Monday and the pace was jumping around mad for the first ten minutes but seemed to settle afterwards. Then when it was uploaded to strava it said I ran 3.3 miles when I actually ran 4. Anyone else experience this? Hopefully just a couple of hiccups because it's new.

Not specifically with a new watch but sometimes the Garmin pace can be a bit off. I run a regular 4k route and a few weeks back it was indicating a higer pace than I am usually able to do. I thought I was flying, but when I go to the end of my 4k I had only run 3.6.. route map was correct from start to finish!

Hmmm. I've upgraded from a forerunner 35, where there was no issues with the pace/distance, so it'd be quite disappointing if I start having these issues with a newer, more expensive model. Still it's early days so hopefully won't be an issue.

I have a Garmin Venu. One of the really annoying things I find is that the watch keeps repeating the same notifications. i.e. if I get a Whatsapp message at 11:00 that I don't dismiss / mark as read and another at 11:04, the watch will flash up a notification and vibrate but show the 11:00 message again.

My €30 MiBand was clever enough to not do this, only showing notifications once. Anyone have a solution on this?

    Thanks!

Garmin Venu here too, bought it for GPS and Garmin Pay - if I start a walk 'activity', I'll be almost finished by the time it tells me GPS has been started. I've tried to enable Garmin Pay but my 3 cards (Bank of Ireland debit, N26 debit and Avantcard credit) are not accepted as not being authorised for Garmin Pay at this time. Disappointing, really! Any workarounds?

I had the same issue so now use a Revolut account with my garmin and I think KBC is the only other one that works with Garmin pay here.

Re your GPS, go to the About setting on your watch. Go to the end of the list you get and you'll see 'Current CPE Info' and see what it says there. It should be 'Current' but if it shows up as expired your watch is working on old satellite settings. It should normally get updated regularly when your watch connects to the Garmin but sometimes it gets stuck with an old bunch of settings.

If it's not updated when connected to your Garmin app on your phone, if you use it, forcing a WiFi synch or synching with Garmin Express on a laptop/computer should update it and you'll find it locks to GPS quickly. No harm in sticking your watching by a window or something before you head out too.

Revolut works with Garmin Pay too.

Any recommendations for a new watch that will hold songs and link to spotify when running but also work for golf as well as running?

I don’t think the 645 has golf functionality

    Cheers

Not sure if it's already been posted, but Curve is now supported for Garmin Pay in Ireland. Slightly different than Revolut in that you link your own debit/credit card to curve so there's no top-up needed.

Has anyone upgraded from a vivoactive 4 to a fenix 6 pro? Any pros/cons? I see there is no touchscreen on the fenix and I quite like it on the vivoactive. Any advise appreciated

My advice would be to check out review videos on youtube, my one personal concern would be the physical size of the fenix 6 on my wrist and sleeping with it on. If you prefer a touch screen check out the Venu2.
The fenix 6 has loads to it, so would you need it, not much use buying an iphone if all you do is text. I use my watch mainly for running but I need it to play music and have Garmin pay.

I was the same regarding the size of it but you get used to it very quickly

+1 on this. After a few days you forget about the size. I also bought the Coros Vertix nylon strap for it which is great (better fit for running, reduces weight, and a lot cheaper than the official Garmin nylon strap).

I'm looking for an easy to use/basic garmin for a 70 year old man into walking. Also need a strap that is longer than the standard size as he has very large hands/wrists

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,221 ✭✭✭crisco10

Have a 735xt, today it randomly started to vibrate and when I looked down screen was blank .

Got it to turn back on by plugging in. But time is wrong, and it won't look for GPS all of a sudden. I've tried soft reset, and tried changing GPS setting but no luck.

Anyone else have similar experience and a solution??

The strap is starting to crack on my trusty Forerunner 230....it's a replacement strap and probably about 2 years old.

The watch itself (about 5-6 years old) is going fine I think but I'm starting to notice the battery is starting to go a bit - deffo charging it more recently than I remember before.

Anyway, my longwinded question is whether it's worth investing in another strap and hope the battery doesn't get worse, or is it time to invest in a replacement watch altogether?

The upgrade would be to a Forerunner 245 which are on sale on the Garmin website atm for €257. A replacement strap from Garmin would be €25 (I know there's cheaper one's on Amazon but they're not that much cheaper tbh and the quality looks varied from what I saw).

Having type it out actually I think getting a new strap might be the way to go....or if anyone has an old strap lying about in a drawer I'd be interested :pac:

This Boards.ie member is giving away a Garmin strap away for free.

After 5 or 6 years you're probably due and entitled to an upgrade. The 245 often comes up on offer every so often. eg it was £169 last week on Amazon Prime day. You could set up one of them price alerts that notifies you when it's on offer or drops below a certain price as if you get a strap you won't be in a rush to replace it.

Hi, I've the same watch & this week same issue. Loosening time and I've re set to no avail. Did you get sorted, any tips.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,221 ✭✭✭crisco10

Yeah I got sorted. Got onto Garmin, and they gave me a new (refurbed) device for about €100. My existing watch had been out of warranty, so thought an "as new" for ~€100 was reasonable.

Struggling to get sleep tracking working on my Fenix 6S Pro Solar. It used to work a few months ago, now however I get no data when I log into https://connect.garmin.com or on the phone app. I checked and installed the widget via the app and I can see a breakdown on the watch's screen, but not in Health Stats - Sleep. It does show up under Stress, but I can't read it in detail.

I got onto Garmin support. They replied:

Is the watch on the latest software version? If not, this will need to be updated using Garmin Express. http://software.garmin.com/en-US/express.html

Is the watch gathering Heart Rate data consistently throughout the night?

Is the Pulse Ox on the watch set to "All Day?"

Do you have Battery Saver turned off?

How are you syncing with Garmin Connect?

It appears you have multiple devices on your profile. You need to ensure that this device is set as your Preferred Activity Tracker. Garmin Connect: Setting a Device as a Preferred Activity Tracker

Please review the following article and ensure that all steps have been followed. Advanced Sleep Monitoring Watch Compatibility

I'm running 19.20 (0fe794a) on a Fenix 6S Pro Solar. Pulse Ox was off, both on the watch and within Garmin Connect. Battery saver was turned off.

I enabled Pulse Ox, and made the watch the Preferred Activity Tracker. That seems to have fixed it and I'm now getting sleep info.

And finally retired the Forerunner 305 from within Garmin Connect, haven't used it in years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,030 ✭✭✭Slideways

You shouldn’t need pulse ox. It’s a battery drainer and pretty much useless unless you live in the Himalayas

I have a f6 pro and its not turned on and I still get sleep tracking so not necessary for that

I have a 2 year old Garmin Vivoactive 3 music and the screen has started to freeze. I know the watch is working in the background i.e. gps, watch, music etc its just i cannot see the screen. It has gotten worse over the past week to the point I can no longer see the screen. I have tried rebooting, factory reset etc, have latest software. Garmin support said they are currently checking warranty on it. Anyone experience this before?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,175 ✭✭✭BKWDR

I second this. I wish previous me had known this when i was deciding between the 245 and 645 music. I would have much preferred the contactless payment the 645 gave over knwoing my SPO2 level

Garmin are doing a sale on their website, but as usual those of us who pay in euro's are getting screwed, so go to their english site. Great deal on the enduro £240 which is over £500 of a saving.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,303 ✭✭✭webpal

I was looking at a venu sq music and it’s actually cheaper in harvey Norman

Where are you seeing the Enduro for that price? I'm seeing it for double that.

Anyone ever bought replacement watch screens on AliExpress? Coming in at €30 so might be worth a punt.

It's a pricing error, when you add to the cart and checkout it goes to the correct price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,584 ✭✭✭Reg'stoy

Looking at the original reddit thread where I read about the deal, it seems some people got it at the quoted price of £240, hopefully they get them delivered at that price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87 ✭✭longrunn

When I was buying my Fenix a few years ago the price difference between Euro and Sterling was huge. The Euro price was like €660 and I can't remember exactly what the Sterling was but I recall it well over €100 in the difference after currency conversion. I couldn't buy it in Sterling from Garmin even though I have a Sterling card so I bought it on Amazon in Sterling instead and after currency conversion it came to about €450, so I actually saved over €200 by buying on Amazon.

And 2 years later when the watch broke I called Garmin directly and after sending them back the broken one they sent me a new one.

It's harder now since the UK have left the EU, there are customs and duty now on top of the prices.

I’m getting it, friend of mine is looking to buy my 5x plus sapphire. But don’t know what to charge. Anyone got a ball round figure of how much it would sell 2nd hand? Great condition also.

Ye I ordered one there also and have given a friend a good deal on my FR945. Hard to know what you'd get, maybe €250 - 300?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,440 ✭✭✭BobbyT28

Yeah I was think the same 250-300

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,440 ✭✭✭BobbyT28

Think I’m gonna go epix 2 sapphire black. 3-5 weeks shopping, do they normally ship sooner than that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,440 ✭✭✭BobbyT28

Also would you get amoled burn in on the display like with Oled tvs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,440 ✭✭✭BobbyT28

Sold Fenix last night for €275, ordered epix 2 black sapphire. Burn in doesn’t seem to be an issue since the venu as the use pixel shifting and also screen turns off and dims.

DCRainmaker video said he got 6 days with always on display and 1hr activity everyday. I’m happy with that battery power and 16 days with gesture which I use on my Fenix 5x plus now anyway.

    looking forward to it now.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 4,726 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzovision

Looks great alright, lovely screen and I was surprised how decent the battery life was. Went Fenix 7x Sapphire Solar myself. Hopefully won't be waiting the 3-5 weeks now.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 4,726 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzovision

    Mine just shipped

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭ReturnOfThe

Was sitting on the fence about this when I seen the 3-5 weeks shipping notice and the price too maybe :) but now I am hovering over the add to cart button. Trying to convince myself here that I deserve it and it's perfectly fine to drop a grand on a watch !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87 ✭✭longrunn

That new Fenix 7 has a touchscreen. Does it work OK when wet? I had an Apple Watch before and while touchscreen makes it much easier to use, it was a pain when it was wet unlike my Fenix 5 which works perfectly when wet because it doesn't have touchscreen.

I believe that the touchscreen can be disabled for various sport profiles and is highly configurable beyond that also.
