Have you walked the riverbank from the closest village to the main road Muffler? if so there is the ruins of an old bridge that used to carry the train across the river, it was taken from there. (chatting in code in case others don't know it yet lol)

Aye, have walked that bank alright.......a long number of years ago. Takes you from one pub to a couple of hundred yards from another :D

Damn good pic. You must have a fairly good lens on the camera.

"The Windmill in these few photos stands in the yard of a farm about a mile from the centre of *******, Co. Donegal. It is an exact replica of a Dutch windmill. It was built in 1877 by Chares Robinson who had studied the design in Holland. He admitted that he should really have built it in the valley because weights had to be attached to slow it down in high winds. The old people in the area said if it went down three times in the wind it would never turn again. Farmers for miles around brought their grain to be ground. The blades have gone (and probably the interior parts) but it is still a famous local landmark. More notes taken from "A Local History of *******", published about twelve years ago by the ******* Guild, I.C.A.)."

Thats looking over at Croghy Head, must of been taken just of the Dungloe/Leitir road.

You can see the big red and white mast.

Does anyone know what that mast is for?

  • Registered Users Posts: 692 ✭✭✭Durnish

Trawenagh bay from Dooey/Lettermacaward? Crohy Head on horizon?

  • Registered Users Posts: 692 ✭✭✭Durnish

    Snap!

  • Registered Users Posts: 824 ✭✭✭pbarr

Ya it was taken in Dooey and it's looking across at Marameelan.
I don't know what the mast is for. I heard years ago that it was part of a guidance system for aircraft don't know if that's true or not.
