Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I had the same problem when I was on Vodafone. I had to phone them up on a monthly basis for a year to fix my line.

Switched to Eircom and I haven't had a problem for 7 months.

They are Eircom's lines so just get Eircom. Any middle men are just going to make your service worse.

EDIT: Vodafone and Eircom routers are a box of s***. Get a Vigor 120 if you want a good, reliable ADSL2+ service: http://www.dabs.ie/products/draytek-vigor-120-adsl2--ethernet-modem-5JWN.html?src=15
(this won't do vDSL - ADSL2+ is limited to 24 Mbps I think. Vigor do vDSL modems but they're much more expensive)

Currently getting 1mb down despite syncing at 18mb in castlebar. Have everyone elses speeds been sorted ? I am hoping it's a local issue.

Has anyone tried to change the name on a magnet account? Might swap the account to the person staying when we move, dont want him to decide to just stop paying and then they come after us for the money.

Does anyone know if these throttle torrents?

Seems Magnet are planning to resolve this by eventually moving customers onto their own fibre backend instead of eircom's. Got that from a rep yesterday, not sure how much truth there is in it: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=91434003&postcount=8

Hope this happens, wonder is that only in certain areas?

Still getting my disconnects, ongoing since the end of march. Pain in the hole to try any form of file transfer due to it.

Can I just add my huge disappointment in Magnet. An awful service. Completely misleading from the start. Meant to be simple no contract broadband but got a huge bill for a connection fee that was not at all clear from the site while my broadband is atrocious. Using my phone data to post this because the wifi is so bad.

Ring them and they should be able to sort something for you....

I haven't had much issues in the last week touch wood...

Aaaaaaand speeds are back down to 15-20 from 100 again; after they explicitly stated to me that the Eircom rollout was finished and that speeds should be back to normal. So now I'm getting ****ty speeds on top of constant disconnects. Good job Magnet!

yep they said capacity is no longer an issue, now its the software on the modem..
Getting different disconnects now, where all looks well on the lights on the modem, but it is unresponsive to connecting to it, or if already connected doesnt connect externally.
    Pain in the hole.

I just found this thread and given I'm in the same boat as you all, I just had to sign up and throw in my two cents. I'm living in Sandymount, D4 and I've been without service for bang on a week now.. Prior to that it was a 'service' which disconnected all the time but now it's just gone completely and the modem won't sync with the DSL. It's an absolute joke the way their badly responsive service works.

When you think you're talking to a human being who'd be willing to help you, they just hurl boilerplate ****e at you and try and fob you off, being a Computer Systems student, and experienced in dealing with Eircom's bad support about 8 years ago before it improved, I know quite a bit about how broadband service is supplied and at the moment from what I'm experiencing and what you're experiencing it seems like they're advertising and selling a service they know only too well they can't supply.

Are you currently suffering from downtime too or?
I've just emailed them twice there and if I'll probably just ring them if I get no response..

downtime unless i reboot constantly. Even so much as doing some updates on games on a tablet can make the connection fall over, resulting in phone and internet going down until modem is hard rebooted.

I've hard rebooted 11 times over the course of 3 hours yesterday evening still no connection. It says the line isn't synchronized but it can detect the line. One of my housemates who works at home 2 days a week was not very happy when he had to drive out from D2 to D18 to a friends house so he could carry out his work using the Vodafone broadband there.

It's a tough dilemma, shame on me for falling for the 'no contract' and excellent advertising. Although I have friends in limerick and galway who have had the service in excess of a year and have had great service with little problems. I'm stuck with magnet for the foreseeable as I'm only living in dublin until January and am not a fan of contracts! :P

I have cancelled with magnet and got our last bill for this month and they appear to no longer charge a cancellation fee which is good news, I'm within the 12 months.

*UPDATE on no service* Magnet contacted me yesterday and informed me that despite the engineer coming to set up the broadband and it was working after he set it up, that I was still not properly connected as he could not remotely connect to my modem. To be fair and completely honest, I'm still really angry but I'm happy how they've handled it since and have been in contact with me directly on a constant basis. Engineer's coming next week to supposedly correct this problem, if they can at all.

Magnet due to come today at some point in the PM to fix the lack of service. Today I am 14 days with no service. They'd better fix the damned thing. Is there any way of knowing when exactly they'll come in the PM? I'm in work and there's nobody at the house. Because I live close to work I was hoping that he'd hold on for me to quickly drive home and let him in when he rings to tell me he's there.

Terrible disconnections in the last week, I got a voicemail from magnet claiming they are upgrading my fibre and I should be a firmware update through my router in next few days:confused:

oh good..ive gone over my data limit on my phone, because of all the modem disconnects at home...

Internet has been back up and running with no faults this week. Pretty happy with it so far. I wonder how long it will last!

Still no reliable connection had no problems all along maybe a year.Last 2 weeks has been a disaster. No internet = no phone got phone call about a job today on the landline trying to talk to her on phone 3 disconnections and a 4 minute router reboot between each attempt to call the job place. Also doing online course this is crazy rand Magnet again today tried to avoid tech support as they don't do much apart from tell you turn it on and off.So went to accounts dept complained and she transferred me to tech even though I told her no point I have been onto them.To make matters worse I must pay for this sh1t

  • Registered Users Posts: 20 Saga1

Disconnects appear to be fixed (3 days so far, although I'm unsure if the firmware update went out or not.), however I am back to square one; 20mbps download after 7PM once again. It appears I either live with slow internet with no disconnects or full speed with lots of disconnects. Not to mention sometimes the Technicolor likes to block all ports randomly thus not being able to use P2P or FTP services, it's only after I get a new IP address are the port problems resolved.

This is disgraceful. The only reason I'm still with them is because there is no contract. And with that Vodafone/ESB gigabit network coming next year I really CBA to go into a 18 month contract with Eircom, who no doubt have worse business practices than Magnet do, but at least their network is working.

Got an n600 and set it up as an access point, leaving the magnet modem just as a modem, assigning a static ip to the access point and disabled wifi on the modem. No reboots for the last hour, despite working it hard.
    Will update in 24 hours...

1130pm, thought i would head to bed, perhaps a quick session of "the last of us" online. I make sure nothing is downloading on my machines, kick it off...disconnected several times between 1130 and 1230.
    So...dam...annoying...

    Still not resolved...
firmware being worked on, and in addition new modems on backorder to replace exiting ones.
New one is the THOMSON TG799n (think mine is the tg789vn).

I have the same modem, that firmware shouldnt have been rolled out to you if you had phone service, was known to cause issues with the phone service...

Having real problems with Magnet. I've now kept a record of time of loss of internet each time and then ringing for a refund when I reach a number of days. It takes a bit of work but to date I've had about 37 euro in reduced charges. This seems a way of getting back to the frustration but if they have not cleared up the mess within the next month I'll be going elsewhere. Perhaps hitting them in the pocket will get their attention! But where to? We must have the most incompetent delivery of internet in western Europe.

Complained on their Twitter yesterday, had a phone call 15 minutes later. They said that the router patch for customers also using thier phone service was this/next week.

Then again, the Agent I spoke to also said that she'd increase my internet speed from the 28mb I had it lowered to to try to increase stability, and I got home after an 11 hour shift yesterday to no change whatsoever, and the red light on my modem.

    @MagnetNetworks

I emailed them again yesterday. The Technicolor Firmware patch for Customers also using their Phone Service is out, and if you call them up they should be able to issue the patch to you. It upgraded the Router firmware from Version 10.2.5.5.BL to 10.5.2.R.DEMO, so hopefully the issues are resolved now.

Now I just need them to increase my 'Net speed again.
