Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Thanks for the feedback.

Using runkeeper app on my phone it's bang on 650m from cabinet to front door but I suspect the cabling takes the scenic route around the estate.

Will hold off for vectoring to be enabled to see where that gets me.

    Cheers.

Played around a little more with the HG hidden menus and got extra info for Stats lovers
Good to see Upload attainable speed could still be pushed ...

    How did you do that?

    How did you do that?

    Hi Nonoperational,

I followed the same methodology described in the bridging the HG658 thread.
In a nut shell, the items which are hidden have a 'style = display none '
So I found an item which is visible, found the attainable entries and replaced the style values from a visible entry

    Hope this makes sense ...

How'd you get vectoring enabled? Is that a Vodafone only thing at this stage? (I'm with eircom)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,401 ✭✭✭Nonoperational

Ya I got it there. Very cool, thanks.

I asked a Vodafone rep on the official vodafone community site [ not on boards ] if he could check my profile and if possible bump it up as I had read that my town had been enabled.
I noticed the increase yesterday , so don't know if it's thanks to the VF rep or if they have bumped up other users too ...

My router config with Magnet got a bump in SNR margin a few days ago (increased from ~14dB to 21dB). (It's hard to post a comparison with the stats from VF or other routers, this Magnet one is fairly basic) I'm on 70MB already, does that mean there should be room to move up to 100MB?

Weird thing is i'v had these stats since early December when I got it installed. Looking at the Attainable Net Data Rate you'd think vectoring was enabled but they hardly have it enabled on our cabinet since December.

About 50 meters away if even that. The apartment complex is only about 3 years old so im guessing good cable was used! :)

But the attenuation is quite high, even though the SNR's are excellent, which would indicate a further distance. My attenuation is 8.3dB down and 2.5dB up on a 350m distance from the cabinet. i had a 15dB SNR down at install (Nov 2013) which briefly improved to 17.3dB mid February, but has since dropped back to 13dB.

Nice lift overnight. SNR has increased nicely. Attainables are well up. Attenuation remains as is - I still believe there is a poor physical line to the cab from my house.

that looks very promising, i have similar attainable data rates as you had( my attenuation & SNR are better ), hoping i can hit the 100Mb or better when vectoring is enabled.

    with those stats

    60/20mb should be possible
70/20mb if there is no line faults

Paying for up to 50 with Eircom. Must look into the other packages and see if I can get that wee bit extra.

Something not right with a recent standalone install, waiting for update from Eircom. Last week engineer showed me the line tested at 140 down, 35 up. When sorted, will make a lot of my users happy, going from 12/2 on a 18/2 adsl.

Weird thing is i'v had these stats since early December when I got it installed. Looking at the Attainable Net Data Rate you'd think vectoring was enabled but they hardly have it enabled on our cabinet since December.

call to get yourself on a vectoring profile

with your stats you should be able to get 90mb/20mb

How long can it take for a profile change to take effect? I rang Eircom 3 hours ago about possibly being bumped up to 70mb and was informed my line could take it and it could be 15-20min before I would see a change and my modem would reset but there's been no change on my line at all since.

It can be hard enough to get an agent who knows what you're asking for so hoping I won't have to call them back again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 326 ✭✭domeld

It is up to 24 hours for change, usually straight away.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,456 ✭✭✭jmcc

Will Eircom change the profile/bandwidth automatically or is it necessary to ring them?

    Regards...jmcc

If the port sees a high level of activity it will delay disconnecting the link to change profile. If it hasnt pushed within 20 minutes power cycle the modem.

    lads,

I was switched to a 100/20 profile earlier this week as vectoring was enabled om my line. I am getting speeds of 90 / 18 on a fixed line but only 30/17 on wireless ( on 3 different devices )Do you think that the router just isnt capable of anything higher wirelessy and do i need to think about changing it for something a bit better ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,711 ✭✭✭fat-tony

Wireless speeds are dependant on the capability of the router and the devices. I know that the VF router is theoretically capable of "N" grade but the best we have seen is 50Mb download on wireless. Other devices will bring speeds down to the lowest common denominator, so cheapie tablet or phone will degrade wireless speeds for all. You have to question though, whether you actually need really high speeds on most wireless devices unless you are downloading huge files. Streaming of full HD should be possible using 10-12 Mb/s of bandwidth. The problem with wireless is its "bursty" nature so it's difficult to guarantee continuous uncontested downloads when other devices are calling for attention. If you spend serious money on a wireless router you may well get better performance but you need to plan your configuration and ensure all devices are up to scratch.

cheers fat-tony. I am very happy with current speed. Just being a bit greedy I suppose knowing that is is capable of more....

The main reason I'm choosing Fibre over UPC is that most of my devices get around 40Mb on wireless so 200Mb would be pointless to me. I wonder when the Carlow cabinets will be Vector enabled.

What about the cabinets constructed in the future, do you know how long it will take for vectoring to be enabled when they go live?
