Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Let me join the chorus is saying that's a beautiful bike. I'm a big admirer of the newer Pinarellos, particularly the new Prince.

For the Record :o, I too think the Pinarello is lovely :D

Here's a pic of my new crankset; one of the few parts for my build that have actually arrived

A mix of Campag Record and Chorus where appropriate; the cranks were a bit of an impulse buy, but they're lovely. So light!

Some new acquisitions. From back- my existing honey Brooks B17, and a new black Swift and honey Swallow (both titanium railed.) The Swift in the foreground is actually the same colour as the B17, that is the way it will go as it ages. The Swift is now on my tourer and idea was to stick the Swallow on my road bike but I'm not 100% sure, might just look ridiculous on a Focus Cayo. I'm working on breaking in the Swift first and I'll think about it. I'm primarily concerned about comfort and got them as I liked the B17 so much. So far the Swift is feeling good, feels racier than the B17 allowing freer leg movement.

One thing I would note: the workmanship on the B17 is every bit as good as the new ones, meaning while the B17 is a bargain Brooks really gouge you on their more expensive saddles!

not according to babelfish, which is never, ever wrong. it actually means :

Google says "My father-in-law has a Orbea Orca. It is a very beautiful bike."

So either El_Tontos father-in-law is handsome or the bike is beautiful, but at least we know that he as an Orca.

    1) link's broken

    2) banana man is a RAGING HETEROSEXUAL (unlike superted, that total queen)

edit> isn't casting aspersions on superhero sexual orientation a bit rich from a man in love with a bicycle?

before eric ever eats a banana (the relevance of eating this particular fruit should not have to be spelt out) he is a spasticated looking goon child obviously confused about his sexuality. on eating said 'banana' he is tranformed into a superhero, a fully grown MAN superhero with a big chin and tight pants with a yellow trim (gay).

eric is obviously using his 'power FRUIT' to escape his reality and become want he so eagerly craves. a big chined MAN.

    in conclusion - bananamans' gay

    link works fine for me.

sorry, but i thought this was a thread for bike loving freaks like myself?

Look Keo pedals. I bought the bike and wheels seperate, and as im new to this i had to buy shoes a helmet and those ridiculous shorts that look like the kind of thing mr perfect used to wear in westlemania back in the day. the cost was high, and rising. so i went for pretty basic pedals and shoes. (i actually think they are Look Keo Novelle pedals, which i belive are ladies pedals).

Nothing wrong with basic Look pedals.

yea they are grand. still tweaking the cleats so as to get my foot in a comfortable posistion though.

i got the new wheels in on saturday and went on my first ever 'proper' ride that day. the sun was beating down. i went for a 20K ride, up around skerries/balrothery/balbriggan... it was the most enjoyable experience iv had in ages. the bike is so fast, taught and stiff. i flew around in 40 mins.

i cannot wait to take her out tomorrow!

Look Keo Elle just have a lower release tension AFAIK, to suit ladies' delicate feet. Unless you got them in pink?

Sorry to go off topic about the relative sexual preferences of superheroes, but @irish-stew, I hope you don't go cycling around in the big ring and the big sprocket? The derailleur looks maxed out in that picture!

Updated the Banana bike. New handlebars, gaudy yellow chain, new singlespeed crankset. I was able to mangle my old brakes onto the new bars, saving a cool 60 euro or so on new brakes.

Where did you get the yellow chain from?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,676 ✭✭✭Gavin

The internet of course, where all manner of gaudy item can be purchased !
Wheelandsprocket on ebay. I got the crankset, bars and chain from them. Expensive delivery, just need to buy a few things at once to share out the cost.

The chain paint is not a particularly good job, it looks spray painted on, but it remains on the link sides after use.

You should spend that €60 on a yellow saddle and tyres just to finish it off :D

If you're getting stuff from them again in the near future let me know, I saw some stuff on their eBay shop I want (and should really have ordered when I was getting the crank, I just wasnt thinking ahead)

Purchased 10 days ago. 08 Orbea Diva TDF Ultegra. I will be changing the stem/saddle and pedals. First road bike in years and year. It's quite the ride:

Nice bike PFB, you could put that on a pedestal ;-) Are you planning on changing the pedals for a road system? I have SPDs on all my bikes myself and am happy with them, although I would want a road system if I took up racing. Are you going for a shorter stem so as to be able to rotate the bars forward a bit?

Thanks for the compliments. I am going to change the pedals to a road system but probably not until next riding year. I currently have two other bikes (one mtn and one other old steel road bike), both with SPDs, and a very expensive pair of brand-new Sidi shoes that only work with SPDs, so I didn't want to put out the expense of new pedals and new shoes right away. I too like the SPDs but I do think that road pedals will work better on this bike. I'm not sure about the stem. I'm not up to date on road bike technical sides. What would be the benefit of a shorter stem and rotating the bar?

I only mentioned it as you said you were changing the "saddle/stem"- maybe you meant just the saddle or the seatpost? TBH the stem looks short enough as it is, I don't know that you would go shorter. The angle of the handlebars looks a bit off in the photo- ideally to get good use of the drops the bottom bit would be flat, parallel with the ground. But to do this will rotate the levers a bit further away, thought you might have had them as they are now due to reach issues.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9 PFB

Thanks for the information, blorg. I meant to say that I am planning on changing the headset. And as for the handlebars, I have changed them since I took this pic. I tweaked my initial fitting. The stem has been flipped and the drops (I think that's the right term) are less upward. I still think I'll need another visit to dial but it feels better with the changes.

it does alright, but I just stuck the seat in for the pic. Had to do the usual new bike stuff- take photo, note serial number, and stick name and address on paper in the seat post, can come in handy to prove its yours if robbed (if it ever shows up again).
I've never setup a road bike before tho so i'll be playing with the seat/stem etc. over the next few days.. Any tips or suggestions appreciated.
