Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I like usernames that are a statement of fact.

I like usernames that stick to their convictions. :)

    Off you go now. :)

I think I first started using this username back in 1998. Although it didn't become my main one until a bit later. I saw it written in a very old dictionary when I was a child and it kind of stuck with me. The problem is there's a more popular spelling and people keep thinking I've spelt it wrong and correcting me! But I'm happy with this version. Although I'm beginning to think it might be cursed! I post the most innocuous things and that seems to fill people with endless rage!

Maybe I'll just go back to lurking!

I don't really pay attention to usernames, though ones that are just your real-life name + number are pretty boring.

Also, thanks to the anagram website posted earlier I've discovered that an anagram of Fluorescence is Once Curse Elf. That sounds so bad-ass I may need to change my username :pac:

It is a slow process if I manage to avoid all those possibilities as portrayed in the excellent documentaries that are the Final Destinations series.

Whats the opinion on my username? Validate me.

I would have thought everyone would be a number by now and names would have been a relic of the past. I've already changed my name to "1" in anticipation as it will automatically make me the leader of any future fascist regime.

It's hard to invent prejudices. For me, I don't choose to have an initial dislike of a username, it's just a feeling.

It's more a case of new social and technological developments leading to new things to be prejudiced about.

    Drunkards, me moon!

I don't like usernames with "Lord" in them, e.g. Dark Lord1985, LordofEvil etc. Either comes across as nerdy/emo or like the user has a superiority complex or both. On the other hand, I like all usernames that start with "Captain". "Captain" just seems to me to strike the right balance between formal and jokey. There's quite a lot of them on AH.

It has a nice rhythm to it, and also sounds delightfully filthy without being overtly dirty, giving it a wonderful sense of mystery.

    Ah that's lovely. :)

Anything with kisses, and/or the letter 'x'.

Or anything too coy and girly, I automatically assume the poster is a halfwit.

    ;)

Sometimes I also presume that a username with the person's real name and some numbers after it are a bit unimaginative.

An exclamation point is much better than a few numbers though: it's less impersonal and perkier!

Usernames with reference to football teams in them always make me think the poster will be arrogant. I'm usually proved wrong, so I don't know why!

On the other hand (and this isn't a prejudice, more an assumption), I always think anyone with a band-name in their username must be really young (about 13-15).

I don't really like my username, I think the one I wanted was gone so I just typed in anything so I could post. It also makes everyone (wrongly) assume I'm male... :P

And another thing: putting your age in your username.

Your birthyear is not so bad, as that doesn't change.

    But your age...

It reminds me of when I'd see people's Bebo pages saying "Hi I'm ______ and I'm 15 and I go to St. Aloysius' Secondary School!" when they were in college or after!

    It's unlikely, really :P

    <band> rock
    <band> rule!
    I <3 <band>
And then you also get people who slot their own name into bands (not on boards as much as other sites) - Mary! At The Disco etc.

Nothing against it, just makes me think the person is v young.

People that call themselves Sexy or Hot in their usernames. Good god it just reeks of narcissism!

Mine's the name of a videogame character and a lucky number of mine, I can tolerate nerdy usernames (it is the internet after all).

But when people call themselves Hot or Sexy (or worse, sxc) I do want to slap them in the face. With a brick.

Haha Bebo was brilliant for usernames. I have a cousin a couple of years younger than me, and there was a trend amongst all her friends to put "hugs and kisses" after their name... which they wrote as Ox. So they were all Karen Ox, Mary Ox, Anna Ox etc. I asked her once why she was friends with so many oxen... :pac:

Well no, I didn't imagine you as fifteen, if that's any consolation :P. Not if it's their own band! It's just names with like "I-Love-Fall-Out-Boy" and "Nirvana-Rule" etc that make me think that the poster is very young.
