Well I've finally got over the DD hump of starting torpedoes have only 100m longer range than spotting finally; now I'll have at least 4km in my favor which will make it soooo much easier to do torpedo runs but yea, tier 5 things are getting really expensive and I'm going to have to stop all but one line by the looks of it.

Yeah, at tier 5 things really pick up. I got 3xtier 5 rafts now and they all ate my credits. I might focus progression om both side cruisers and maybe one battleship and destroyer on American side as part time.

So yeah got tier 5 jap cruiser furitaka furutakaand I hate it. Kuma was so much more fun and so much better. :( Guns aim speed is same as bad as battleship and reload time 24seconds... Complete opposite to lightning fast Kuma. Range us arse too.

progression is fairly fast in fairness . i have nearly unlocked the Tier 5 Kongō Battleship for japan . anyone have any experience of it ? . any good ?

Very good. Crazy good AA as well. Then the one after it is definitely not as much fun.

so whats everyones favourite ship so far ?

Kuma and Omaha cruisers, fast shooting and nippy, what else could I want.. Both a lot of fun.

Other then that, battleships are just something I play for the won of the day and I am not that great with destroyers...

Jap. Destroyers; nothing like lining up a torpedo run on someone coming around a island and outright kill a BS etc.

I can't recall the last time I took more then 1 hit from a torpedo plane by starting to turn when spotted towards them. Even a manual run should only land one hit, two if caught at a bad angle while being slow short of them committing multiple waves. I also try to focus fire them to get rid of a torpedo or two (dead planes drop no torpedos).

some early BB have terrible turn times and every time i turn towards them they seem to loop around 90 degrees and jit me from the side . well not every time but it happens a lot . at the moment im mainly switching between the Myogi BB and the Wyoming BB trying to rank them up

i cant get used to destroyers they die so easily but i love cruisers especially ones armed with torpedoes loads a fun to be had :D

For destroyers look at their concealment range and then remember the torp range. Aim for the slow ****. So fire the torps outside of detection range and bobs your uncle really. Very satisfying to land most shots on a target from 8k away when they never knew you were even close.

One of the first things to stop doing in a DD is using your speed to run right into the enemy at the start and getting wtfpwned instantly. YOu need to let everyone settle into a fight and get tunnel visioned.

And forget that the American DD lines exist; DDs is all about the Japs. The tier 3 to 5 are challenged on the default range (i.e. torpedo range 6km, spotting range 5.9km) but they all get secondary upgrades to increase the range. My current one has spotting range of 6.0 km but torpedos reach 10km and it only gets better from there :)

Oh and torpedos from a DD don't have arming time; if you get caught next to a guy launch away (or if you feel suicidal and sneak up on a BS from the side when he's not looking)!

What about rushing the cap at the start, dropping smoke and running if a US dd comes by?

Sure but I think the DD works best in a bit of open space. I usually head to a flank then once the enemy appears track along in front of their path sending torps at them as fast as I can.

EDIT: Also crazy/controversial opinion moment..... I hate capping a win in WoWs... Game is so slow I just want to get some fighting in. I'd be happy if they just got rid of cap zones in WoWs...

Problem is a normal cruiser can usually make it there to stop it and even if you do cap you can't fight a cruiser off in close quarter so need to run away hoping your smoke will cover you long enough to get out of view range for the cruiser and their plane.

Worldofwarships.eu, log in, choose enter bonus code on the dropdown menu by the username.

It's only a tier 2 US cruiser, the guns are powerful enough, but they only have a 6km range.

Ok having used bombers for two weeks now can someone please explain what I'm missing with them? Yes they can drop their bombs ANYWHERE unlike torpedos who need a bit of a open space but the damage when hitting (50% miss ratio at least) is pathetic. A single torpedo hit would do more damage then the bomb hits does...

Yeah, bombers are really underwhelming. I haven't played carriers yet but bombers don't inspire anywhere near the same fear as torpedo bombers.

I've been playing my Cleveland the last while, shooting planes down is so much fun.

I believe the dive bombers are intended to counter the destroyers.

The problem is they don't do enough damage to make that possible; even on a BS I'd be lucky to get a 50/50 hit on them :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,106 ✭✭✭SpannerMonkey

ya i pretty much ignore bombers but torpedo bombers scare the beschnizzle out of me.
i hear if you approach from the back of the ship bombers do more damage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,749 ✭✭✭Smiles35

The value in the bombers is setting them alight and making them use their consumables surely. I feel good sending the bombers out for that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,893 ✭✭✭Canis Lupus

The key to bombers and it's not worth the hassle imo is as above. Setting targets alight and to be effective you need to wait for a target to burn then go in with the bombers immediately to light them up again when they can't use their repair.

Frankly it's more hassle than it's worth.

So I've been experimenting with manually dive bombing and wow the difference is phenomenal. Of course it's a hell of a lot harder to hit things with it but damn when you get it correct and some practice you wreck ships. I'm looking to see if there are specific areas I should go for vertically like we do for citadels on the side.

If anyone has any tips on that let me know.

Do the dive bombers bombs have enough penetration to get through the deck? I though they only had HE bombs, not AP.

I still can't be 100% sure this happened as it was late and the ship sort of just vanished but I had hit a Phoenix and took it out in a single dive bomb attack.

With manual bombing though I've been scoring up to 5k damage on some targets not counting the subsequent fire damage. It's still tricky but so far I've turned a few games around with it.

I'm not saying they are better than torpedo bombers but for the US when you have more fighters usually and these they can make a huge impact to the game. Oh if you are being attacked by fighters just go for the auto shot and no manual as it's as likely to hit from experience.

so guys anyone have experience of the New Mexico and the Fuso . debating which to go for next ?

Can't help there, I only got my Myogi yesterday, and haven't started the US BB line yet.

I seem to be very low on credits though. Generating XP is easy, but keeping up the silver to go with it doesn't seem to happen.

i have tier V on USN and IJN BB line the Kongo is an amazing ship for the IJN im just worried the FUSO will be a step back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,677 ✭✭✭Aenaes

I've heard Kongo and Fuso are good, from players who have played them. Apparently Japanese battleships are reasonably fast.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,106 ✭✭✭SpannerMonkey

well i got the fuso and it playes more like a USN BB its slow with short range but packs a big punch . hopefully the upgrades will improve speed and range

So the official release is the 17th, with the release patch being 0.5.0 seemingly. Full details should be out tomorrow, with some chatter about there being a surprise tech tree in it, possibly the split of the US cruisers.

Probably best game to date in a destroyer; sadly there's one of these to 10 poor / average once.

I've returned this over the last two weeks due to the promise of the various free premium ships on the go. I'll have the Kamikaze R next Monday or Tuesday, and with a little luck the ARP Kongo around the same time.

I've also finished the despised Pensacola and got the New Orleans yesterday.

I doubt I'll make the ARP Myoko in time, tricksy little DDs are hard to kill.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,473 ✭✭✭R0ot

They've revamped the commander traits and refunded everyone their points to redistribute on EU (not sure about other servers but looks like it came with the patch).

Allowed me to fix a poor choice of the 50% reload change on a few captains.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators, Help & Feedback Category Moderators Posts: 25,504 CMod ✭✭✭✭Spear

It's the same refund on all servers, needed due to the massive skill changes. Though there seems to even less choice for me. The tier 2 skills all seem useless, bar the passive less fire chance one.

It is a must for a DD imo; if not you're dead if it's broken and with it you can keep on going anyway to dodge bullets and get back out of view range.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators, Help & Feedback Category Moderators Posts: 25,504 CMod ✭✭✭✭Spear

I just realised you're referring to Last Stand, not the improved rudder shift one. In which case, yeah, I'd say that's highly recommended for DDs. A still DD is a dead DD.

So the two new Arpeggio missions and ships are up. The rewards are the Hiei and Haruna, both Kongo class. But they're not premium, not even reward vehicles, there's no bonus XP or credits. So all they are is a reskinned Kongo, yet unlike my actualy Kongo, I can't use my IJN commander or research further ships. So all they are is a long grind to a get a new skin on a dead end ship. Am I missing anything here?

The final commander at the end of the whole grind having 16 skill points I guess; but yea, not looking overly impressive as you can't even sell them...

The end commander is a little useful, but that commander would just end up replacing the ones for all the Arpeggio ships, rendering more of the rewards redundant.

Be nice to have I guess. I never got the Myoko, seems my gameplay style is certainly not based around burning things! Only got about a third of the way there.

They're not premiums? Not a hope of my trying the mission then. I was wondering should I go back to playing it fully to get one of the ships but not now.
