Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Let us know when you find out! Glad to heat you got your bike back.

So i seen further the CCTV, regrettably I locked the bike to what i thought was the bar outside fresh but i didnt loop it under my mistake.

The lads came around noticed this, picked up the bike and threw it on the ground - I would assume to create attention to see if the owner was around. minutes later they pick it up and put it back not in its original place. 15 mins later they come back pick it up and run off.

They are all known in the area.

    Hey Lars,

Sorry to hear about the bike. Whereabouts did you lock in the gasworks? I keep my bike there the odd time.

It's the bicycle stand opposite the Poolbeg apartments, how is it called again? The Camden, I think.

    Btw...Trek, 3rd series, model number 3700

My mate's Trek 1400 road bike was stolen from the underground carpark in his apartment building in Clontarf. He kept the front wheel in the apt, so it was taken without a front wheel
If anyone's offered a road bike that's missing a wheel, let me know...

    Dear Fellow Cyclist,

I am deserate, can you help me? On the 27th July my securely locked bicycle was stolen from Wellpark retail centre. I only owned this bike for 6 weeks and it is now my 4th bike in 6 years that has been stolen in Galway City! Bad form, I know! mad.gifIt was a black Ammaco ladies bike with a basket at the front, 3 gears, a new set of pedals and a new seat.

If you would happen to come across it, I would be the most grateful if you could contact me on <snip>. Thank you very much indeed.

My Blue Merida Race 880 road bike was stolen from outside Fairview Church on Saturday 30 July. 55cm frame, Look pedals, black bar tape and bottle cages. Not worth a whole lot but would love to get it back although i'd say it's long gone at this stage!

Just on the offchance any of you nice cyclists out there come across someone selling a 5-6 month old Cube Aerial in the next week or two, could you let me know as it's probably mine ;)

My bike was stolen yesterday (Sunday) from outside of Stephens Green shopping centre at 7pm in plain few of dozens (hundreds?) of indifferent people. It was a group of 3 or 4 lads which just worked on the lock until it gave way having a great aul shout and laugh about it while they were at it. I know because when I came back to cycle home someone who had seen the robbery saw/heard me on my phone looking all depressed and filled me in on the details.

I can provide a bunch of identifying details which should make it easy to spot it even if they take off all the extras. While I doubt they read boards, I'm not sure if I should put all the ways to identify it up here just in case.

So I cyled into work this morning to find my old bike gone. Admittedly it's been sitting there for ages unlocked (but off street past a security gate so should be secure) and I would occasionally look at thinking I must give it to Rothar or try to do a bike repair course and do it up as a fixie etc. It's a 10 year old British blue eagle city bike but very rusty, tyres/brakes banjaxed and don't think it could have been cycled anywhere. Part of me's annoyed but part of me thinks well that saves me having to figure out what to do with it. Is that very wrong?

You should have been fined for illegal dumping.

You should have been fined for illegal dumping.

Seriously? I mean it was left in a bike rack/bike storage area that's never full. It's not like I dumped it in the canal or the Liffey

Would it have been removed by the building management, bikes that appear to be abandoned are often removed, even if they're locked.

So finally I broke my duck !...My two bikes were taken from a locked designated bike shed in my apartment block between the dates noted in the title. They were a Giant Yukon FX (2008 Model) with mavic crossrail rims, carbon easton seatpost and the rear shifter was upgraded also. The bike is similiar to this:http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-us/bikes/mountain/1382/29355/

The other was my first proper racer, a Giant Scr 4, bog standard except with pedals being clips on both sides, alot of bumps and scratches on the paint work but she never let me down !! The bike is similiar to this: http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-GB/bikes/road/1399/29642/

I havent reported then stolen to the Garda yet as, I need to talk to the Managment Company first and get their view on it (They supply the keys to the designated bike shed).

The apartment blocks are situated in Milltown, adjacent to the Dodder river.

Still in shock to be honest...i just walked down to get one of the machines and go for cycle out to Dalkey and nothing, gone.:(

Don't waste time, if there were a few bikes taken the gardai will need to know ASAP, if they are recovered you'll want your name down. Hopefully the management company can help but it is still a matter for the Gardai.

Were they locked to anything inside the shed?

It would help others if people who have lost bikes could describe what kind of lock was used, how it was tied, and how it was circumvented.

It may not help retrieve an already stolen bike but it would help others to avoid making the same mistake.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 130 ✭✭camroc76

A key was used to enter the storage area, only the MTB was locked again inside the shed.

It was a cable tied thru the frame, one of the lesser Kryptonite Kryptoflex Key Cables. This was cut.

CCTV is being reviewed as i type by the Mangt. Company. No clues so far.

I think there are plenty of threads dealing with locking techniques dos/don'ts and the wiki has a good bit on it when it returns to us, might not be worth loading up a thread with it when the info is already there.

I reckon it's a case of whether or not he/she wants to have sympathy for the person. If the bike's were well locked and everything possible was done to prevent the theft, then sympathy is warranted.

If the bikes were not locked properly, locked with a bad lock or not locked at all... less sympathy.

That's the impression I get anyway.

Doesn't make the theft of your beloved bike any easier... just makes one feel worse :(

It's a fine balance - we don't want posters to explain how to get round security systems, but it is helpful to understand where the weaknesses are to help avoid others falling into the same trap

2 of our bikes were stolen from our garage last night, between 8.30pm and 11.30pm (Thursday 11st August). We were in the house and the garage adjoins the house. It is possible our son didn't latch the garage door and someone noticed the door ajar, came in the gate and into the garage and took both bikes:

BIKE NO 1: Fuji Team - Carbon Racer - White handlebar tape, blue San Marco saddle. Only had it a year. See photo of the FUJI attached and I have serial numbers.

    couGC.jpg

BIKE NO 2: Giant hybrid - grey with a child seat on the back

I am so angry about it, this is the second bike that has stolen, the last locked in Ranaleagh. After that I wouldn't leave a bike on the street. I really want to do something about this and although I know the chances of recovery are very low, I want to do my best to find it.

I will be monitoring all the websites, Garda auctions, talking to local bike shops, etc. I am also tempted to put signs around the locality as it was likely to be an opportunistic scumbag. Any other advice of where to trace bikes would be great.

It makes me think there must be a better way to use everybody how has had a bike stolen to try and trace where the bikes are going. Surely the volume of bikes being stolen can't just disappear and must have to end up somewhere.

Any help or info would be much appreciated.

It may have been mentioned here before, sorry if so, but there is another forum for keeping an eye out for stolen bikes:
    http://www.bikeshepherd.org/

You can register your bike with it's serial number, upload a picture of it and details of where it was stolen, and it appears on a map of Dublin so other users can keep an eye out.

They've also teamed up with Kryptonite to offer a tagging system you can buy; a tamper-proof (whatever that means) sticker with a qr code on it that people can scan to check out the status of the bike.

Sounds interesting but probably will only be effective if a hell of a lot of people are using it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 597 ✭✭✭Tayto2000

The bikeshepherd scheme has a lot of potential if people will sign up for it. At the very least it's a good place to post info on your stolen bike so people can keep an eye out. I've registered my three bikes on it, hopefully I'll never have to report them stolen!

I pass through milltown, rathgar and the surrounds every day, I'll keep an eyeout for that Fuji.

Stolen last night August 14th 2011 from thr back of our house at Grangerath Drogheda, near the Southgate Shopping Centre.
Giant Acid 2 kids Mountain bike, belonging to my 10 year old son
The bike is black and has all stock parts fitted,
I understand there were only a very small number of these bikes sold in Ireland,
Any information that would help with the recovery of the bike would be greatly appreciated.

My bike was stolen from inside my house yesterday, someone broke in and nicked a laptop and my bike.
The rear tyre is flat, there was a seat pack fitted, and the grip was black.

Haven't seen many of these around town ever, especially in this colour.
Anybody sees it, I'd really appreciate a shout.

I know it's already been asked, but if you could put up a photo of either the actual bike, or a stock picture it, it would help posters keep an eye out for it, either in the flesh or in FS ads on the net. It's probably the sort of bike that will catch the eye more than most that are reported here

Looking for a little help here...my other half had his bike stolen from outside of work on friday, three weeks after buying it :( Its fairly distinctive so if it pops up on any site it should be easy to recognize...

its a scott addict r3 (blank and white), dura-ace crank set, ritchey stem (white), Deda handle bars, Sram rival shifters, selle italia slr saddle and american classic wheels.... if anyone see's it for sale on any site can they respond to this thread...thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,222 ✭✭✭michael196

just to clarify it it a 2011 model ? Scott change colors every year almost. Will keep an eye out. Not that many Scotts in the south east , so trying to sell it on, in the southeast, it should stand out. I own a scott myself. and have just been through getting my stolen mountain bike back, by the gardai in Crumlin.

mine turned up on done deal about 5 days after been stolen, but the picture was not of my bike but the description and the brand and model were correct. I think the thieves dont use the actual picture just to put u off, u think ''thats not my bike'' and move on in ur search. my advice is therefore search by make and model and not necessarily the picture.

I verified that it was mine by texting and asking where in dublin was the bike for sale an the thief answered with the area it was taken from. We set up to meet the thief to recover the bike but at that point handed the whole thing over to the garada who went in , in plain clothes and arrested the lads. 1 x 18 and 2 x 15 year olds.

watch the sites alright......probably a few days before they move to seel it on, dont give up hope and report it to the gardai. If the gaurds think its the latest in a string of robberies by the individual, they will be anxious to have something to arrest the thief redhanded with.

  • Registered Users Posts: 111 ✭✭furry

Yea i should have included the year, its the 2010 model....i see the 2011
model is also black and white... delighted to hear you got yours back,
    hoping for the same outcome.

Putting this up for my mate:

Two near-identical bikes stolen from Lucan over the weekend from a garden shed.

They bashed the side-gate lock, shed lock and cut a kryptonite lock on the bikes.

Bikes are only 6 months old.

One is slightly larger and with bull bars.

There is a reward offered for the recovery of the bikes.

I had my bike stolen yesterday (22/08/2011) from right outside cineworld on Parnell street. I had just gotten it under the bike to work scheme friday. I had it for a whole weekend. Haven't even made one payment on it and now I have to pay for the rest of the year and buy a new bike.

My bike is a ladies hybrid, grey carrera with a distinctive pink bottle holder. The bike tubes have been replaced with Slime Schrader Bike Inner Tube and have bright green nozzle caps, it also has a spring loaded pannier on the back for holding bags etc. Link to halfords as I dont have it long enough to have pictures of my bike. :( If anyone has any details or have seen this please let me know.

Does anyone have any ideas on where these bikes go?
