I'm still in two minds about going to it...
I can't put my finger on the exact reason why but I feel that I would be better off waiting for Dublin Comic Con and DICE later in the year.

I would have thought this event would be a big deal but not much talk on here about it.Do people dress up go in costumes at these events?

MCM looks pretty good I think, was slow at the start but announced new guests and looks like a fun day.

I was the same until a few weeks ago, While the advertising is still a little low Key, The guest announcements have made me decide to go, I will also be going to Dublin Comic Con ( that was My comic highlight of last year)

Their is a big cosplay aspect on all the MCM events, From what I can find on google. But You dont have to dress up :).

From what I can see MCM is an all encompassing event covering every thing from SCi fi, TV, Movies, Gaming and comics, Its not very expensive, So I'll give it a go this year, Might be worth putting on the calendar next year.

Just on an aside, It is worth noting that the Ideal homes exhibition is also on in the RDS this weekend, So Parking might be scarce on the day.

Didnt even know anything about this till i was bringing my mother out to the ideal homes at the rds and saw the signs.
Pity as i would love to go, not so much for the comic side, but for the sets and props etc.

So googled a bit and saw shamrokon event in august, but even that website looks like an irish writers convention, not a scifi one.

Also the dublin comic con in august in swords so will try to get to them this year.

There wasn't a lot of props at MCM, Lots of Comics,Artists and toys and lots of Manga, The guests ware good, Seemed to be having a good time of it.

It was more of an all encompassing sci fi / Dress up event. Worked very well and I will be going again next year.

From what I have read, Shamrockon is more of a writers event, Havn't been, But might go.

Dublin Comic Con in Swords, I was at that last year and it was great, Tons of Movie props and full size costumes, Very impressive. They had an Aliens interactive set, quite fun, and this year they promise that it will be bigger.

I hope the DCC guys ware at MCM, Had a good look at what was working and add it to the swords event.

I was at that MCM comic con on Saturday making my first ever time going to it. I had to say it was alright but it was very small that included mostly trade stalls there including a Yu-Gi-Oh swap shop section, a big stage used for costume fashion shows and a seminar showing some online battle game (they was the only main parts of the event).

People had to pay €15 to get autographs to meet the guests. I thought that was a bit much. I didn't bring anything to have an autograph so I didn't bother.

But Danny John Jules from Red Dwarf and Hannah Spearritt from Primeval (also from the band S Club 7) were there on Saturday.

I have never been at the comic con in Swords because I live ages away from it and also don't know the area very well. It would be a nice proper spectacle to see in Dublin If I had the time for it.

EDIT: Sorry for the earlier mistake Bistoman!

Hannah Spearritt from Game Of Thrones (also from the band S Club 7) were there on Saturday.

    .

She is not in GOT, I would have been all over that if she was :P

My wife and I were there on Saturday, dressed as Woody and Jesse from Toy Story:). So many people asking for a photo with us:). We had never been to a Comic Con before so I didn't know what to expect. It was a very good day overall with a lot to see and wheel and deal over:).

First of all thanks to MarkHall for posting this here as this was the only place I had seen this event advertised.

I went to this yesterday and quite enjoyed it. What did anyone else think?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,144 ✭✭✭MarkHall

I unfortunately couldn't attend for reasons beyond my control.
Got very positive reviews from those I know attended it. A lot of good info got passed on.

Plus I see the Nerd stuff I share the Nerd stuff.

Did you happen to know that Bryan O Malloy is Signing at the end of the Month. Along with Shamrockon.

And D.I.C.E is happening next month. Along with a host of bits and bobs in the lead up to the weekend?

Share away Dude, it's much appreciated :)
What are the bits and bobs in the lead up to D.I.C.E? Or have they yet to be announced?

I thought Stephen Mooney was great on Thursday, really interesting to hear about how he made his way into the industry. I had never read Half Past Danger and only purchased the first issue when I got home that evening. I wish I'd bought the hardback though, I'll have to right that wrong soon.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,144 ✭✭✭MarkHall

Half Past Danger is a lot of fun.
    Well worth picking it up.
He had the German one with him at DCC. Where all reference to the Nazi's had been removed. Which is an interesting touch.
If you do the Hardcore collecting side of things. There's also the Dice Variant for issue #1 with colors by Ruth Redmond. to keep an eye out for.

In regards to Dice. Nothings been announced, Just hinted at so far! But the Big Bang isn't one to let the fans down.
