The thing I like about Moore and Duff right now is that they have very low ownership and are nailed on (barring transfers). Bruce has a very high ownership so could be susceptible to price falls; even Wisdom is up at 7%.

Jesus, Bruce 20.8%, mental and a good point you make. If he doesn't play his value will drop like a stone!!

Yes but both have shocking fixtures in first few weeks, so maybe one risky 4m and a safe 4 bench fodder. even hutton seems better option
Yeah, I've got Azpi and Evans who will start every week (at least I hope Azpi will.....). My 4.5m defender is Rio who has not so nice GW2 and 4. Plan would be to start Duff GW2 at Swansea and then either Moore (Stoke A) or Duff (Palace A) in GW4. Not ideal, but not terrible

Taylor of Swansea presumably? Something up with your sums there! 17.5m I think...

You are correct. I only got back from hols at ten tonight so brain still not functioning!

Due to freeing up .5 mil in my team, I have now upgraded Taylor to Pieters from Stoke.

Take a look back at the friendlies thread, Pieters may not be nailed on....

De Gea, Terry, Pieters, Caulker with Hutton and Moore.....

Just doesn't sit right for me, need a replacement for Caulker maybe? Defence has me puzzled this season especially those last 2/3spots.

I emailed them about Jerome Williams at Palace and they said he would be added soon. Hopefully at 4.5m although I wouldn't be confident he's nailed ahead of Mariappa.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,685 ✭✭✭✭wonski

    DeGea
    Chester Debuchy Coloccini Pieters Moore

A little over the budget, but can't think of any better options to allow me for 4x9m midfielders + Rooney and Costa.

If Pieters doesn't play I am in trouble though - I really want Stoke player for the first 2-3 weeks. Unless they concede a lot in the first 2 of course.

Can't wait to acivate the wildcard:D

I expect him to start tbh. If that changes by next weekend, I'll go with Bardsley.

He plays on other side of the pitch to Mariappa.:confused:

When he plays though, Ward moves across to Mariappa's wing so his presence has a direct revelance to Mariappa's playing time.

I've been away since our initial debate re Mariappa. Has he seen more playing time in recent pre-season matches?

Palace played 2 games during the week at the same time. One was the first team ,the other an XI of backups and new signings ,Mariappa started in the first team with Dann Delaney & Ward. Williams was is in the other team same with Hangeland.

Yesterday they played again with Williams playing a full 90 with Mariappa on bench.

I still don't see Williams starting against Arsenal It would be a ask for him to try contain Alexis imo.

    Yep mostly first choice
Crystal Palace: Speroni (Hennessey 46), Ward, Dann (McCarthy 82), Hangeland, Jerome Williams, Puncheon (Gayle 65), Jedinak, Ledley, Bolasie (Bannan 65), Chamakh (Guedioura 72), Campbell (Murray 65).
    Unused subs: Mariappa.

How come Enda Stevens isn't listed in the game? Seems to have played a few games pre-season at LB and expected him to be a 4.0m option. If he gets gametime during the season and then gets added then I fear he'd be coming in at 4.5

    Pulis on Mariappa
CRYSTAL Palace boss Tony Pulis is hoping that Adrian Mariappa is fit to face Arsenal on Saturday after picking up an injury.

The former Reading and Watford man travelled with the Eagles to face Augsburg on Saturday but Pulis didn’t want to risk the defender in the build-up towards the new Premier League season.

“Mapps was struggling with a rib injury and we put him on the bench,” the manager told www.cpfc.co.uk.

“I didn’t really want to take a chance with the game (against Arsenal) so close.

“I am sure he will be all right.”

Most of us wouldn't be playing our Palace defender GW1 anyway. Now to figure out whether it's a risk worth taking over Ward.

Funny the way a lot of teams are playing 3 centre backs again. It obviously increases his chances of game time. He was playing the last European game so I'd expect him to start the first game anyway.

At least that should deal with that quandary. I can't understand why Pulis have him so little time pre season though.

I think I'll stick with what I have and can work him in later if needed. I wouldn't play him in GW1 anyway.

Lads looking to go cheap on the defence i will be playing 3 at the back so looking at two 4.0 defenders to rotate. Who do people think will start looking at King but not sure who else.

Not sure how long Evans is out for but Tyler Blackett (4.5m) could be a decent short term punt. Only 191 people own him currently.

Same with Reece James with Shaw injured.

I'd imagine it'll be senior players to deputise

With the United defence so unsettled I think not only is it hard to know who to go with but clean sheets might not be as certain as people think till they get a settled back line.

Might do the Callum Chambers thing for a couple of weeks then take the best option from United.

    Hutton Duff Chambers

I'll probably end up with Hutton. I'm mainly looking towards GW2 as I may need to play my £4m defender instead of Debuchy. He sounds like he's nailed down a spot, even scored the other day although I wouldn't expect to see that again! Villa play Newcastle at home in GW2, and he seems the best £4m option ahead of Wisdom, Targett and Bruce. None of those three are nailed on imo.

There is also a fantastic free Android app called FPL Wizard which is amazing for picking defensive rotation options.

I think Tyler Blackett is going to start for united at the weekend. Been impressive pre season and evans is injured so other alternative, he is priced at 4.5 , should keep a clean sheet at home to swansea, but dont see him playing much beyond this weekend especially as united are buying rojo who plays in his position of lcb in a 3-5-2

Neither are nailed on to start. I've gone with Pieters myself. Has some competition from Munisea, but should start. Wouldn't risk any of the 4.5 ones myself.

There has been a number of posts about the Stoke backline also.

With long gone from hull I'm thinking hull could go back to 4 3 3 their signings of Snodgrass and Ince would make more sense with this formation. Could spell trouble for bruce if so.

Yup. Hopefully get a couple cleanies early on and pick up a price rise while assessing the rest of the 4.5m defenders. Walker hasn't played since March so he's nowhere near match fitness

I fail to see the logic in bringing in a player for one game, spurs away to west ham is unlikely to be a clean sheet and Naughton is unlikely to get you attacking points. Walker is very close to returning.

I thought I read he is out for a month

I agree its not worth getting a defender in for one game, I don't understand the love for Chambers on here.

Apologies in that case, I thought I read Pottechino say the other day that Walker is taking full part in training most days and was a major doubt for he first game, perhaps I should do more research before posting:o

So will Naughton be first choice for the first few games?

I read that but without any actual quote to back it up. Pochetino said something along the lines of 'some days he's fine in training, some days he feels some pain' re. Walker - sounds like one of those strange injuries and hard to tell when he will/won't play

he played 45 mins of Spurs' pre-season U.S. tour that's all
