Having a Headwaters Pale Ale by Victory at the moment. Beautiful beer. Light and refreshing with plenty of hops and a lovely sweet malty finish.

Gonna have an OFAF next. Just to see if it's as nice as I remember. :)

    OFAF in bottle?

Ha no. I'm on one of the very rare occasions that I'm in town. In the Black Sheep. I can also confirm that it is better than I remember. Cracking beer. Lots of chewy marmalade/orange fruitiness.

Thornbridge are a very good brewery. Raven is the best BIPA I've had. Bracia is fantastic. Halcyon and Jaipur are both very good beers.

The main problem is that they can be a bit expensive. I love Raven but I'd still count paying €7 a bottle (as I've seen in some places) over the top

In LMulligans ,Ringwood Boon doggle - very refreshing type beer. It's not as citrusy as expected and was slightly sweet.

Only had one as there are many better beers available.

Made a trip to Trim to the Malt House earlier and picked up:
    • Franciscan Well Rebel Red
    • Sam Adams Boston Lager
    • Joker IPA
    • Brugse Zot Dubbel
    • Odells IPA
    • Brooklyn Lager East India Pale Ale
    • Whitewater Hoppelhammer
    • Founders All Day Session IPA

They have a great selection, was well worth the trip.

Tell me this - what is the 8 Degrees Amber Ella like? I assume it's a Golden Ale or is it a type of Red Ale? Is it similar to anything else?

In brussels on an all day beer tour, was in Cantillon earlier, amazing.

Bit like 5am Saint if you ever tried that, not as pungent as that though.

Its an amber ale, so its a bit like a red ale and a pale ale mixed together. Its a really nice style and one of my faves, well well worth a try

Cracked open two bottles of Kinnegar Yannaroddy and it's really drinkable, the coconut essences and the gentle spiciness sitting on it make it just not too much of a session beer without making it a sipper. IMO these guys can do no wrong at all :)

Picked up some of the Franciscan wells rebel red, really nice. It's just a pity they're 330ml bottles and not 500ml.

First person I've seen saying they can get the coconut!

Now, I think it's a lovely stout/porter, but I've had a few bottles, and had it on tap and never detected the coconut.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭drumswan

I've had it bottled and on draught, the coconut is really obvious.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,697 ✭✭✭ciaran76

Maybe u got a dodgy bottle as I couldn't taste it all.

Also at the time a friend was here and he tasted it also. After I told him about the coconut and he said he couldn't taste it either.

Might get another one now to see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,518 ✭✭✭matrim

I've had a couple of bottles and could taste the coconut.

Anybody tried Crew's Ipa? My first time tasting an ipa from a German Brewer. Very sweet but not too bad.

It's quite nice but reminds me a bit too much of Lilt.

I don't know if it's in need of TLC, a clean palate, a certain temperature or what but two bottles and it was there for me. Given coconuts subtle and soft flavour I can well understand a lot of people missing it easy enough; I've missed essential tastes in some beers before.

Is this a negative or a positive!?

I'm having a Kinnegar Yannaroddy. I've tried it on draught before and couldn't get the coconut. It's slightly more pronounced from the bottle. Would I be able to tell that there's coconut in it if it didn't say it on the label? I'm not so sure. Still a really nice beer though.

Finally cracked open my bottle of barrel-aged Leann Folainn tonight to have it with some cured meats, cheeses, crackers etc.
    Perfect for them.

To Øl Dangerously Close But No Cigar. Made with Cedar wood chips. Smells like a wood workshop or like the smell you get when you open up a flat pack furniture box. Unfortunately the woodyness carries through to the taste. Nice idea but it's a shame it doesn't work. Tough to finish.

One of the nicest, if not the nicest, beers I've ever had was acquired the same way.

Double EXTRA Pale Ale? that would be DEPA, yes?

Jaysis, wonder what the hell that is meant to be. Short of a DIPA? Should O'Hara's release a DEIPA?

Would Double Extra be a treble or just less than a treble?

wonder what the hell that is meant to be.
Entertainment for brewers who make beers rather than styles :p

I thought Pond Hopper was very good, but overpriced for what is -- the bottle I bought in England was even dearer than the price I've seen it at in Ireland.

I'm enjoying a kinnegar yannaroddy at the moment but don't get any coconut hint at all. Aroma or taste.

Stone Barrel Boom Session IPA nice beer but hardly any carbonation at all.

Slightly sweet taste followed by a nice quiet bitterness.

I had one over the weekend and thought it was really really nice. Similar to the likes of St. Austells Tribute or London Pride. Carbonation was ok though.

Yeah that's what it reminded me of. I was sitting here thinking if loads of English IPAs . Tribute tastes very similar.

They were right in calling it a session IPA too as I reckon I could quite easily drink a few on a night out. Sometimes it's hard to stick with super hoppy beers or stronger flavoured beers over the course of the night........not that I get out much these days. :)

Tribute has far less carbonation that London Pride when it's bottled, in my opinion anyway.
They're both bloody great drinks though!

I was talking about flavour wise. I thought the carbonation was light but not totally lacking. But yeah, two great beers. Sorry, 'three' great beers. :)

That Founders Breakfast Stout is an amazing beer. Deceptively quaffable.

Be interested to hear what it tastes like. Sounded like it could be a mess.

Don't bother wasting your money on it Bazmo, its like 16/17 euros for a 330ml bottle. I was quite disappointed with it(probably didn't help that I thought it was going to be amazing).

Suspicion confirmed so. I'm not a fan of the idea to mix two different beers. Just seems lazy to me.

Got a mixed pack of Anchor at the weekend. It had Steam Lager, their Porter, Original Wheat and Liberty Ale.
Really enjoyed them all except the Liberty Ale which was unremarkable.
