Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yeah, but it's pretty easy to replace the one on the Catleap and I think that's the only one that has been confirmed to overclock.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 271 ✭✭stevenf17

which has the best stand? I hear crossover?

Can't compare to the crossover cause I've never seen it, but the one on the catleap is fairly sh1te. It does the job like, but slightest bump to the desk and it wobbles like a plate of jelly!

Did you overclock yours? To what? Do they all OC?

    Thanks lads.

I've got the glad eye for new mon's lately:)

everything you want to know is in this thread. I'd take pics myself but I don't have my DSLR so they'd be ****.

    correct.

correct, which is why I bought it. the crossover is also far more expensive.

its not great, but its not unbearable. mine won't wobble during gaming, but with music + lots of bass, it'll wobble in rhyme :D

Nope, we're waiting for OC PCBs to be manufactured.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,983 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

none of the monitors made this month will OC past 67Hz due to a small PCB being replaced. Some guys are talking to factories to reproduce the magic PCB, but its difficult to translate, make, and keep it cost effective. the idea is to be under $50 delivered.

the OC panel allows both nvidia and AMD cards to run the monitors at 125Hz.

That would be sweeet. Couldn't go back under 120 now, my eyes would hurt.

    Think I've got a 560TI Nvidia

It depends what you plan to do with it, if gaming, then you want a good gpu with around 2gb VRAM m8.

they're four times the resolution of 720p

for stuff like TF2 Brian gets decent fps with a 6850 on dx9 mods etc.

I play BF3 on ultra with 2x MSAA and get a steady 70fps average with a HD6990-OC, you're 560Ti will do about 30fps under the same settings.

Should be fine to play on one monitor, or browse on 3 :p

Attaching a few Screen caps of my 560ti with Battlefield on medium and ultra (40MB zip) Clicky Here!

Being perfectly honest there's not a whole lot of difference besides shadows and the rendering of some far off objects in the difference between medium and ultra at this resolution.
I keep mine on medium and its a constant 60-70 fps.

All that being said I'm still looking into getting a 680 :p

    Because now OCN

    1. can't stop them linking to ebay
    2. can't delete video links because they have swearing in them
    3. can't try to muscle in on group buys

    Hi Everyone,

Considering buying one of the Crossover Monitors could I tap into the vast wealth of knowledge here and ask what type of cable would I need to connect on of these monitors to a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5970, by that I mean what variant of dvi cable ? Many thanks.

You need a dual link DVI cable which will come with the monitor...

according to this pic, your GPU is unsupported :(

im not sure how accurate that is, or why it wouldnt be supported. my 6990 is a similar beast to yours, and its fine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 285 ✭✭peneau

Thanks TB, agreed I can't see why it's listed as unsupported as my 5970 has the same DVI output as your 6990 might take a chance, whaddya think oh and what cable type are you using ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,983 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

If it doesn't work off dvi, what's stopping it from working off a DP to dvi adapter? you likely got one with your gpu too.

I cant find much info on people doing eyefinity, but I know some people do, and thats the only way you can do it anyway.

If you've any interest in OCing it, the catleap is the one to go for.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 285 ✭✭peneau

Have really never been brave enough to go down the OCing route

It's ocing a monitor so its a whole different beast. Also it might be worth your while getting the cheaper catleap and buying an after market stand.

Saw that myself earlier, was going to ask about the exact model and make, but then I remembered I haven't the money for anything like that :P

The Hazro was the flavour of the month before the Korean monitors came along. Probably uses the same panel but it's €100 more expensive.

You certainly can, it uses a standard bracket AFAIK. Finding a mount to hold 3 of these would be amazing

Just another update from someone else who used FedEx.... got a letter from them this morning look for €26 import duty and administration charges.
Brings my total up to €310, still a great price for what you get though!

Looks like a sweet monitor, and a steal at the price. Question for you guys on the size though, how do you find 27", is it too big or just right, how far back do you need to sit ?

I know its probably ideal for a FPS (maybe needs some FOV adjustment though ?), but I find even with a 22" at a meter that I can have trouble keeping track of things in mmos/strategy games, as I focus on one section of the screen, and can miss stuff on the minimap or the odd health bar in other sections. Some times its almost a relief to switch to a 15" screen on a laptop as every thing is in your central vision with little or no eye movement required.

I find it fine with BF3. the size doesn't hinder me much hitting long range targets is alot easier

Havent played any SC2 but ill let ye know how i find it

Thinking of buying one of these or the Achieva one. Does the catleap have a VESA mount? I think I read somewhere that it didn't?

What happens if you run a game on a lower than native resolution? Considering there is no scaling board does it just run at that resolution with black bars around it? Only game from time to time w/ a 6870 and wouldn't fancy playing games surrounded by black bars.

    It is VESA mount compatible.

as for scaling im not sure i dont think it adds borders so but ill be post back this evening and tell you :)

lads, unfortunately I encountered some impotence with my e-peen.

couldnt get eyefinity to work on 3 of these badboys. my active displayport adapters are only single link, but I didn't know it so nearly through my rig out the window I was getting so angry.

If anyone wants to lend me some Viagra in the form of an active mini displayport ->DVI-Dual link (you can tell its dual link cause it has a USB cable attached like so: club-3d-dp-to-dvi-adapter.jpg.

    id buy them but they're like £80 a piece. i need 2.

Just testing this out for you.

I can confirm that it's full screen at:

    640x480
    1920x1080
    1920x1200
    and obviously enough, 2560x1440.

any 4:3 formats do put bars on the left and right though.

ive attached a zip of screen caps of the above res's in BF3 at low and ultra settings if anyone is interested.

EDIT: or not. the pics are waaaay too big. forum limit is 2mb and they get upto 11mb. no point in reducing quality as it defeats the purpose of showing differences in quality. if anyone is actually interested i can email them to you or host them on a different site etc.:o

I have a pair of mini DP > DVI single link actives that came with my cards, afaik single link is good up to 1920 x 1200?

Otherwise you could buy a couple online and return them with in 7 days for a refund :D

Been looking at one of these for a PC build i am thinking of. Is there any great difference between the ones on green-gum on e-bay for around $330 @60Hz and the ones that will be for $450 that could be OCed to a high Hz.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

The difference is one can be OC'd to 120hz... Other than that they're the same screens.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,104 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tar.Aldarion

is it not 100hz? can it do 120?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

Depends on your GPU. If you have a GTX680 you can do 120 Hz, otherwise somewhere between 85 and 100 for most people.
