God, all this back slapping is great. Long live the megathread.

    ... what rhymes with megathread?.....

    Copy, paste,
    The years I waste,
    Cannot be replaced,
    By vulgar numbers,
    Sleeping in computers.

    Short term plan,
    Cash in the hand,
    A company man,
    Whose spirit slumbers,
    The King of commuters.

    The clock flew,
    Undo, undo,
    A day fed, and grew,
    On winters, summers,
    And bloated on futures.

    Foolish love, the only kind,
    Eyes lock, tongues bind,
    Scarred hearts, beating fast,
    Lost in pure emotion,
    Hidden parts, free at last,
    Seedlings of devotion,

    Clumsy words prove sincere,
    Memories disappear,
    Delving deep, far to fall,
    Surprise, sadness, delight,
    Whispers creep, baring all,
    Only fit for the night,

    Hark the Horror

    Once, whilst perambulating, free,

    Appeared in front of me,

At the opposite end of the street,

Opportunity. Two Routes, side by side,

    Severed. Along with all ties.

    These were not roads.

    Though there was sign posts,

They said nothing of where to go.

They did however remark on my chosen road.

As I embarked into the next fold.

Hark the horror in the new hole.

    Hell unfurled meant no control.

Storytellers shared nothing of stories to be told.

For fear of the unknown sequestering the soul,

Placing it in the hold of a troll.

To be consumed alongside a child.

As so, speculation saw me into the wilds.

No advice rendered me a tender slice

Of prime choice, a canvas for vice.

No path chosen was good enough for light.

    All demons doling out night,

To cloud judgement, led logic to flight.

    I took a life. Though I'm unsure

Where I came across one that pure.

I'm sure it took all my allure.

    The same power to lure,

    Trap and deconstruct, I'm sure

Is in all of you crooks

And can be teased out to hook

You into killing for fun. For a ****.

    Colossal dice, playfully cast,
A spark amid seas of gas,
The first and only clock is set,
    Everything, forever, doomed,

Thus time begins, at long last,
    Steadily moving far too fast,
Stars, like candles, await it's breath,
    Fragile flame, self-consumed,

Somewhere an ape falls in love,
    Unaware of what lies above,
    Briefly knowing a harsh joy,
    Idly eyeing the beyond far,

Til Man puts an eye to a lens,
    And innocent hope instantly ends,
He sees, at best, he is a toy,
And learns how lost Men truly are,

The Age of Light, flickering now,
The sickly Hunter, and broken Plough,
    Death-rattle constellations,
    Bear blunt implications,
We live and die by the light of a match.

My youth is the youth of the wasted
    my body the body cultivated
my ambition does not exists it
is a wraith of fear that gnaws at my composure
my rage is the rage of the righteous the rage of the
silent the rage of a reflection that roars back
my skin is scarred and broken
my mind a kaleidoscope of half thoughts and dreams

My love the love of the angel
screamed into a chasm with no echo in return
My hand is a hand unaccepted
    My affection a useless limb.

The streets are my streets of rage
the bars my refuge of imagination
My smile is the smile of a liar

    Ticking Clock

    Time's march is unrelenting
We always think there will be plenty
But there is no time for lamenting

When we pause and take stock
    Of the never ending clock
We realise there is a secret to unlock

A life without worry of the chimes
Or asking what is the time?
    Is a life lived sublime

    alone,
    cowering in the stillness,
    waiting for the moment
    the charge of confidence appears

with it all doubt and excuses rescind,
and the page no longer leers
mocking the emptiness of my soul.
tentative steps to overcome the fear
    provide light to depth inside

    Maybe this world will provide,
    the beauty that it hides
    Eventually.

    For what it's worth...

    In the coffee house
They restart the stale bored game.
Waves of attack, gambit upon gambit,
They smile as they attempt to win.
And then, coffee cold and just too bitter,
They replace all the pieces in the same box.
    For later.

    THIEF

You stole from me, you took my soul,
You grabbed my life and ate it whole.
    Mother, Brother, Sister, Son,
My peace, my love, my stars and sun.

Sly and nice, your sneaky tricks
    Promise fun and harmless kicks.
You Lie and cheat, and play your game
Feasting on my guilt and shame.

You stole my wife, my friend, my core.
You left her feeling like some whore,
Beaten by your lies and mine,
Shame and pain in every line.

    Forgetting who I was before,
    Taking some and wanting more.
    Losing track of twisted lies
I crawled to claim my rotten prize.

Bastard, made me just like you,
    Denying everything that’s true.
    Cancer, Virus, weeping sore,
You’ve had enough – you’ll take no more.

    Bowed and beaten, bloody mess,
I stand before them and confess,
I tell the truth, I break your law,
I trust myself, forgive my flaw.

You cannot steal again from me,
I know you now and clearly see
Your rotten fruit, your stinking wine,
And say at last, it’s YOURS, not mine.

Daylight comes; your time is past,
And mine is near at hand at last.
A time for truth and honest pain,
To love and laugh and cry again.

For years I dwelled in subterranean lair,
absent of anything, save total despair.

The darkness became me, and I eventually, it.

The blackness I mirrored, fed and adored.
My veins froze solid, heartbeat ignored.
    A void lake. Deep.
    Unexplored.

Til sunlight broke my trance, with a stray ray.
First recognition of beauty, the gift of day.
I emerged into some world, unsought,
    fearfully afraid.
Surrounded by colour, I cowered in shade.

I cursed and I spat, and I hissed and cried.
    The coldness I was
    thawed, withered, died.
But that was all I had known,
what was I now? No sense of my own
    self or place.
A nameless stranger, a pallid face.

The others I met were blind to me.
The sun they felt not, nor beauty could see.
    Chanting their questions, rhetorically.
    Life was their sentence, equally
    lived and served, unknowingly.

Slowly I waded into the light,
Always returning, to the nothing of night.
Until once I did not. I stayed, bathed in the sun.

One life had ended, another begun.

    She took my hand
    I did not see
    Asleep
    Afloat
    Unheard

    Two hands now one
    She smiled at me
    Awake
    Sinking
    Silent

    She says the word
    I cannot say
    She doesn't do complication
    She says the word
    Is this me?

    Amputee.

    Something strange, new to learn
empathy seems a strange burden to bear,
    why should anyone care
about a life alien to them.

    however to learn,
    something that seems so strange,
find that you have some humanity left
brings hope for a better fit

    let life begin again,
maybe we will see a friend
    and finally care.

    the light, bright with hope
    awakens happiness where never seen
longing the freshness of a new day
a rebirth that has been lost

    a struggle that never ends
to see the sudden death of hope
    cascading darkness enveloping us all
    a triumph of nihilist thought

    And yet we go on

    i have an awful reputation
    but people, just don't understand
i just do what, i have to
    there is nothing underhand

    i am never, ever welcomed
but, i do have lots of mates
and i like to roam around a bit
    so i, visit many states

but when i've gone, i'm not forgotten
i fact, for many many years
i am a locust, one of billions
and all i leave behind..are tears

The morning light breaks even on the broken sky,
it has it's way and moves slowly down the road,
lighting up the corners where the blankets of night fell.
Men who cried in darkness now sucking from glass tubes
watch the squinted light and hope it stops at their feet.

Deralict men in the streets walk slowly and don't work in chains,
the wheel of work keep the city turning and captains of the ships sail,
they move into the harbour at Ringend and weep,
they small eye and head down and turn the wheel once more.

Me and my Little Boy, Stargazing

    we stared, he and i
    into a sky
    of distant and glimmering
    possibilities

    so far and so cold

    as the frost took hold
    and the hardened grass broke
    easily beneath
    our feet

    cassiopeia, orion
    the arcane drawings
    of ancient times

    I said to him
    what we could see
    was the past
    he nodded
    then at last
    said he didn’t understand

    instead he put his hand
    gently
    in my hand

The Dawn's early chill gives way
To the waxing sun and the warmth of day.
The heat that gathers from noon 'til four,
Lingers softy as the shadows come to play once more.

    Leaves have gone from gold to red to brown;
    Still the sun beats down.
    The air heavy and still
Drains us of our energy and will.

A small breeze flickers carrying the scent
Of that season that has been spent
On holidays by the beach or in a tent
All over now that the shadows have added to their length.

The evening gathers quicker then expected
And we see that for a while summer was resurrected
As the dark and night gather weight
We take the time to contemplate

On one last day of bliss
And enjoying it we remember this
    That winter is not far
And for all its warmth this day was,
    Summers last hurrah.
