Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yes, it's sold as the Fusion in the US for the last 3 years.

Black will always work, as I think the candy red variant will.

Is the candy red the red on some of the very early launch cars some of the magazines have featured????

That does work very well in picture.

Black should work a treat if the car has chrome - if they do what VW have done with Passats in the past and dechromed the base model - it won't work so well.

I have the brochure here actually, the red looks class. I'll look at the name again, but I don't think it's called candy red.

Ya black is really brought up with chrome, hence me sticking it on :P

What really makes black work - on any car - is if you have light coloured interior on it.

Speaking of light coloured interiors ive yet to see pics of a Mondeo with a light coloured interior.

Makes a MASSIVE difference on the Mazda 6 - and that's just the seats/door cards as Mazda seem to keep the dash black/dark coloured regardless

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,821 ✭✭✭Old diesel

The current Mazda 6 is seen by many as the most stylish car in the class - but unless the Mondeo changes dramatically when I see it in real life - I think the Hatch Mondeo is nicer.

That's partially down to me liking the Mondeo hatch shape of car.

Has anyone seen pics of the Mondeo saloon yet - I haven't hence the question

Zetec with trim in black looks good. However compared to old model I find the new sloping centre console now encroaches more on left leg. Seats very comfy and supportive. The small screen does not do it justice. I'd say the Titanium dash would look better.

Those wheels look completely lost! What are they, 15 inches or something tiny? Looking at the state of the Zetec interior, I shudder to think how ugly the poverty spec Style (or whatever they call the one below Zetec these days) looks. The Titanium is a LOT nicer inside, pity it's so expensive though. I also don't like the fact that the new car is not available as a saloon (even though it is originally from the US) unless you order a hybrid. This approach may be fine in the UK, but Paddy likes his or her big cars to have a boot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 942 ✭✭✭trabpc

Wheels were 17" I checked. Looks a lot better in the flesh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,290 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Underwhelming imo. Shape doesn't look much different to the previous model par the front grill and lights. That centre console is way too cluttered for my liking. Too many small fidgety buttons, a touch screen would be way nicer and easier to manage imo.

I think the new Mondeo looks more like a face lift than a new model. In particular the rear.

Edit...Didn't see your post Bazz26 before I wrote mine there but +1

I really like it :) I hate the interior though...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,477 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Did you hate the interior of the outgoing mondeo?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,845 ✭✭✭Noccy_Mondy

That zetec interior is minging. The titanium centre is a major improvement!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,541 ✭✭✭Leonard Hofstadter

The interior of the Mk4 was hardly that car's strongest asset either. Mind you, the Zetec interior in the older car was nicer than the Zetec one in the new car...

The Titanium interior is a major step forward, it's worth paying the extra for a Titanium for the better interior alone. The Zetec screams cheapness, it's clearly designed for American rather than European tastes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,477 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

You shouldn't have to pay extra just to get an acceptable interior though. Its an ageing design, it'll look worse in 5 years time. Don't know what all the fuss about this facelift is.

Your right - but I can see Ford making the Titanium interior the standard interior in time - OR - facelifting it.

It will look worse in 5 years time - but id expect the interior to be facelifted in that time.

Surely this model is already almost due a facelift in about 2 years or so?

Fair point. Mind you, the Germans are great for doing the same thing, a BMW or Merc with cloth is just plain nasty to be in. Toyota of course are dynamite for it also, the Mk2 Avensis is horrible to be in if you buy the Aura or Strata model but is a perfectly nice place to be in if you go for the Luna or Sol models as they've the nice shiny aluminium effect centre console.

Just because Toyota and ze Germans do it doesn't mean it's right that Ford does it either.

Interior mid-life facelifts very rarely are radically different to the original design. I wouldn't hold my breath.

Well yes - but when the 1990 Escort got such a bad reception - one of the things they did on the 1995 facelift was change the dash - the plastics were still cheap - but styling wise the dash was a lot nicer - imo.

The other thing is that the Titanium is supposedly a lot nicer - so if it struggles for sales - they may make the Titanium interior the standard interior to help shift the cars.

I do think despite the criticism - that interior is still a step forward over the Mk 4.

Its not a complete disaster in my view - but I DO expect Ford to get the whip out and improve the car more if it struggles in the market.

Big issue with that dash on the Zetec imo is all the buttons it seems to have - I think they might be able to address that - and make the plastics nicer - they look okay in the pic though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,290 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

It didn't even have to be a fancy setup from the Titanium. It could easily have been a more simplistic setup. Climate control, bluetooth and stereo controls could easily have been integrated into a simplistic touch screen with icons doing away with half those small buttons. You could then reserve things like larger screen, sat nav, advanced climate control, internet browser, etc for higher spec models.

It's not a great vindication though if some people are already suggesting improving things on a car that is only on sale here a wet week. It's not as if they didn't have plenty of time to get these things right.

I saw my first one today and was left feeling a bit underwhelmed. While it does look good it doesn't look "different". And the interior shots above don't look too good either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,865 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

Saw a Titanium with the sport pack and sunroof outside Ford's place there. Looked fantastic, so much nicer than the zetec.

This Mondeo has been a debacle for Ford. The sector was dying on it's feet even before the production delays. If it was ever going to succeed it needed a killer product, on time that could steal sales from BMW/Audi, this is not it and has been death by a thousand cuts. If people can't afford a BMW they will look at the Passat which is more premium than ever and has a better image. You may not like VAG reliability but they are masters at making the feel good factor, and their interiors are second to none. If Ford ever wants to win back this class it needs to throw out the rulebook and start again.

Really like the interior upgrade that Mazda have just given the 6. Love the exterior design, but that original dash let it down.

    What's this Vignale business about?

Another coach builders name that Ford want to run into the ground. It's their top spec for the Mondeo, for people who really like depreciation.

But this car - flawed as it maybe - is nothing like the fiasco that was the 1990 Escort.

We all know what happened after that - they came up with a Mk 1 Focus that was absolutely excellent when it came out in 1998.

Theres the making of a VERY GOOD car in this - in a way the 1990 Escort wasn't.

I still reckon on the outside its a nice looking car - one of the nicest looking modern cars out there i reckon.

The interior - it looks like a major issue is that if you spec it up its nice - but if you don't its not so nice.

Funny - no one criticises Audis for being gloomy inside with a basic spec dark interior - its just accepted.

Its just seen as Audi wanting you to pay more to spec up the interior to make it nicer inside

A few months on from the release of the new Mondeo and I haven't seen all that many of them on the roads around where I live.

Contrast that with the proliferation of new Passats, which I seem to be seeing every time I'm out and about... I wonder what the comparative sales figures are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,411 ✭✭✭ofcork

There are a few around alright but the small wheels look crap compared to the one in the tv ad on at the moment.

Passat is guilty of the same. Cars are bigger, yet for C02 reasons we will always have 16" wheels, which on most family saloons look ridiculous.

New Passat is actually smaller than the previous one.

Yet you can get 18" alloys with fat 245 tyres on a basic opel insignia and still maintain the excellent 98g Co2 figure, I dont understand this.....

Not for much longer due to new regulations coming for measuring Co2 emissions. Always wondered how it made no difference to the Co2 on Mondeo/Insignia etc, but upgrade a 520d from 17's to 18's and it's fecks all pricing up as it moves up a VRT band.

There was a good stock of basic enough Passat's available from Launch, but few Mondeo's. Seen a good few on the road recently. We'd only had two through the place up until last week, but got 9 in on Friday! Red is nice, but Deep Impact Blue is the best (IMHO). Not sure about the Platinum White Zetec estate though.....

It's disappointing to see that the Titanium model doesn't get half leather seats as standard.

€37k for this with cloth seats:
    http://www.driving.ie/used-cars/Ford/Mondeo/2.0-TDCI/150514265268464210/

Here is a similar priced Passat:
    http://www.driving.ie/used-cars/Volkswagen/Passat/2.0TDI-150Bhp/153514279939577220/

Passat will probably be worth more in 3 years time too.

2.5k to add leather seats too....

Would have to be the red for me or the grey.
Its an awfull pity ford didnt have theyre finger out id say there was a lot of sales lost because of the delivery times for the new mondeo.

I hear the Qashqai is going through the same thing.
Apparently there may be an issue getting and SVE with 19" alloys now.

Im sure Ford will quickly address the spec issues - the cloth seats on that Mondeo look a bit crappy vs the blue Passats much more attractive leather offering.
