Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

For the first time ever, hard rock legends Warrior Soul hit Cork City!

Warrior Soul is an American hard rock band formed in 1987 by lead singer and producer Kory Clarke. Clarke started the band on a bet from a promoter at New York City’s Pyramid Club, after a solo performance art show called ‘Kory Clarke/Warrior Soul’. Clarke boasted he would have the best rock band in the city within six months. Nine months later he signed to Geffen Records for a million dollars.

The term “Acid Punk” was coined by Clarke to explain the hard driving trippy sound that was Warrior Soul, particularly the Space Age Playboys album, mixed by Ben Gross. The style once again predicted what was going to break on the American and International rock music scene with the success of Green Day and The Offspring.

The critical acclaim that accompanied the band translated to record sales in Europe but there was not enough push or touring to break in the USA. Despite recognition by peers, including Lars Ulrich from Metallica who had been quoted as saying Space Age Playboys was his favorite album, Warrior Soul disbanded in 1995.

In 1996, Odds & Ends was released as a posthumous collection of demos and left material that were to be part of a major label record (Elektra, Nancy Jeffries) that got squashed by Peter Mensch at Q-Prime management. Clarke took 2 years off after disbanding “The Playboys” and moved back to New York, and wrote & released on Cargo Records his spoken word solo album Opium Hotel in 2004. Soon after Clarke was tapped to be the lead singer of Dirty Rig and coproduced their album for Escapi Records in 2006.

Following the re-release of the band’s first five albums in 2006, Clarke reformed Warrior Soul for a UK tour in March 2007, using long time musician friends from England and Sweden. A live album resulted from a subsequent UK tour in October of that year.

The band released a limited edition studio album titled Chinese Democracy in October 2008, just a month before the Guns ‘n’ Roses album of the same name was due for release. The band shortly re-named the album Destroy the War Machine and began to print more copies.

In 2008, the band played the second incarnation of Hard Rock Hell, in North Wales, with the large room over capacity when the band played, rendering the opposing Hawkwind show on the next stage virtually unattended. Kerrang! magazine reviewed the show as KKKKK (5 Ks). December 2008, also saw the band return to large indoor stages, with shows at the Shepherds Bush Empire, London, and the Academy, Glasgow.

In 2009, the band saw re-issues of the classic Warrior Soul work on vinyl, and a European tour to support the release of Destroy the War Machine. Warrior Soul toured the UK with The I See.

2012 has so far seen the band play in Slovenia & Wacken Festival. Before they tour both the UK & Europe from September onwards, this Irish tour will be in support of the band’s new album that will be released in September, and will see them take in Belfast, Dublin, and for the first time, Cork City.

Before Mötley Crüe, before RATT, even before there was a Metallica, Y&T was slogging away in sweaty rock clubs around America. When the band formed in the early 1970s, little did they know they would set the standard for hard rock bands that trailed. Many of the biggest acts of the ’80s became popular opening for headliners Y&T—and cut their teeth on the band, as evidenced by the Y&T mentions in tell-all books by acts such as Metallica and Mötley Crüe.
Born in Oakland, California, Y&T is one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s own innovators of the hard rock sound. World-renowned headliners on their own, the band also remained the most requested support act on the hard rock road, touring with icons Ozzy Osbourne, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Mötley Crüe, and more. Whether performing to a festival crowd of fifty-thousand or in an intimate nightclub, Y&T’s high-energy set still captivates legions of fans around the globe, proving Y&T’s music timeless.

Originally formed as Yesterday and Today, the initial powerhouse quartet—featuring Dave Meniketti (lead guitar/lead vocals), Phil Kennemore (bass), Leonard Haze (drums), and Joey Alves (rhythm guitar)— tore through the ’70s and ’80s with their own brand of hard rock. After two ’70s albums on London Records, they shortened their name to Y&T and released eight albums on A&M in the ’80s. Two more albums with Geffen Records marked an era of change with Jimmy DeGrasso (Alice Cooper, Suicidal Tendencies, Megadeth) on drums and Stef Burns (Alice Cooper, Berlin, Huey Lewis) on guitar.

With a discography of 18 albums and three greatest hits collections, Y&T has sold over four million albums since their 1974 inception. The band received extensive airplay with hits such as Forever, Rescue Me, Mean Streak, and Summertime Girls—which played in heavy rotation on MTV. Y&T songs have been featured in a multitude of movies and television shows, including Real Genius, Out of Bounds, Baywatch, and Hunter. After five top 100 albums, songs that tipped into the 40s, two Bammie Awards, and many international television appearances, Y&T’s hits are still played on VH1 Classic and classic rock radio stations everywhere.

In 2010, Y&T released their first studio album in 13 years, featuring original members Dave Meniketti and Phil Kennemore, along with longtime members John Nymann on guitar and Mike Vanderhule on drums, who were each hand-picked by Kennemore and Meniketti years earlier. As the title indicates, Facemelter is a hard rockin’, song-oriented album that lives up to its name. Recorded mostly live in the studio, it captures the band’s raw energy and tightness for which they’ve become known. Featuring heavy grooves, powerful guitars and strong melodies, the band shows their versatility, delivering a range of highenergy rockers, mid-tempo head-bangers, modern rock grooves, majestic ballads, and signature Y&T rock anthems.

After a show in the mid-’70s, a rabid fan told the band, “You melted my face.” And as any Y&T fan will testify still today, Y&T’s strong suit lies in their high-energy, power-packed rock ‘n’ roll set. With Kennemore’s untimely passing from lung cancer, the band carries on the legacy that is Y&T. Y&T continues to tour the world, featuring Dave Meniketti (guitar/lead vocals), John Nymann (guitar/vocals), Brad Lang (bass/vocals), and Mike Vanderhule (drums/vocals), playing songs from Facemelter as well as all the hits and fan favorites. Prepare to have your face melted.

Whelanslive presents Japanese psych/noise rock legends
    Fush(it)susha
    Tuesday October 9th
    The Village, Wexford St
Tickets €18.50 + booking fee available from www.wavtickets.ie and www.tickets.ie

For fans of Swans, Sonic Youth, John Zorn, Taj Mahal Travellers, My Bloody Valentine, Amon Duul, Can, Captain Beefheart

“the greatest rock band on the planet… At this point in time I think it’s safe to say that no one else has so successfully and rigorously disinterred and interrogated the basic tenets of rock music as Fu****susha and to think that at 60 years old Haino is still making the most radical and searching rock music of anyone’s career is a tribute to his commitment to the specifics of vision and his belief in the potential of the form. From where I’m sitting it feels like the whole history of rock music has led up to this.” - David Keenan, The Wire

    FU****SUSHA

Japanese guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, and vocalist Keiji Haino had been a prominent figure in the Tokyo underground since the mid-'70s before forming this incredible group that stands as one of Japan's most inventive and extraordinary and powerful groups of the era. Their work draws on noise, rock, free improvisation, and psychedelia, yet they sculpt their group sound in a fashion that their music is relative to few forms. In fact, the sound of Fu****susha could best be described as contemporary Japanese music as some of their modalities and vigorous improvisational manner reflects the Japanese folk and traditional formulas. On the other hand, the electricity and refined indulgence of their feedback drenched albums and live concerts bares similarities to early Sonic Youth and the Swans, yet is as challenging as avant-garde improvisation. Sonny Sharrock's Black Woman and Peter Brötzmann's Machine Gun are good points of reference, as are Captain Beefheart, Guru Guru, or even Can.

Keiji Haino’s extensive career has encompassed a dizzying range of approaches from wild, guitar-led ensemble rock and near-Neolithic drumming; live electronics, untutored explorations of lute and flute, to voice experiments and extended performances for gamelan and other percussion. He has also collaborated widely with the likes of Derek Bailey, Merzbow, Jim O’Rourke and Tony Conrad. Throughout, Haino has retained a visionary focus upon temporary suspension through noise (and silence) whilst refining a mercurial, highly distinctive method and an arrestingly dramatic on-stage presence. In Fu****susha he is joined by original Fu****susha/Kousokuya drummer Ikuro Takahashi and bassist Mitsuru Nasuno (who Haino also plays with in Seijaku). Their disc Hikari to Nazukeyo was one of the most hotly anticipating releases of 2012.

"Deez Nuts is the brainchild of JJ Peters and started after his original band (and pioneering Australian metal-core band) I Killed The Prom Queen decided to split up in early 2008.

Heavily influenced by hardcore and hip-hop styles of music JJ set out to do something different that incorporated both styles of music, thus Deez Nuts was born.

Deez Nuts took a tongue in cheek approach to the often up-tight hardcore scene, focusing on the lighter side of things writing songs like ‘Tonight We’re Gonna Party Like There’s No Tomorrow’ and ‘I Hustle Everyday’.

To date Deez Nuts has put out 2 full length album’s and one EP and done countless tours across Australia, Europe and the USA and has a loyal following worldwide.".

Queensryche first burst onto the music scene in 1982 with the release of their self-titled 4 song EP Queensr˙che. They very quickly gained international recognition and performed to sold out audiences around the world. With the follow up first full length album "The Warning" in 1984, and the ground breaking 1986 release of "Rage For Order", Queensr˙che continued to prove their worldwide dominance as one of the most respected and creative bands of the 80's. In 1988 the band turned out yet another monumental album "Operation:Mindcrime", which would go on to become one of the TOP 10 best selling concepts records of all time, and set the stage for continued sold out performances around the world. With the release of the critically acclaimed and commercially successful "Empire" in 1991, the band earned multiple Grammy Award nominations and won the MTV "viewers choice" award for the #1 chart topping hit "Silent Lucidity". During the next ten years, the band continued to release albums and tour the world to sold out audiences. Queensr˙che has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and have continued to break new ground and push their creative process. Queensr˙che is Todd Le Torre (Vocals), Michael Wilton (Guitars), Parker Lundgren (Guitars), Eddie Jackson (Bass) and Scott Rockenfield (Drums)."
