Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    METALLITIA
THE BLACK ALBUM 20TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR!

The Village, 26 Wexford street, Dublin 2.
    Friday 18th May | Doors 8pm | Tickets: €12.50

To mark the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Metallica’s legendary ’BLACK ALBUM’, Ireland’s No 1 tribute band, METALLITIA, are presenting a 20th Anniversary Tour which will see the guys perform the album in its entirety from start to finish as a major segment of their show. To compliment this, a selection of classic tracks taken from other albums in the Metallica back catalogue will make up the rest of the show.

‘THE BLACK ALBUM’ is as close to the perfect mainstream heavy metal album as Metallica (or anybody else, for that matter!) have ever released. It marked the group’s transition from cult metal heroes to global superstars, with shorter compositions, simpler song structures, and slower tempos overall and featuring some of the best songwriting Metallica has ever done. 6 hit singles - ‘Enter Sandman‘, ‘Wherever I May Roam‘, ‘Sad But True‘, ‘Don‘t Tread on Me‘, ‘Nothing Else Matters’ and ‘The Unforgiven’ - are all bona-fide hard rock classics, with killer hooks, solid grooves, and the latter ballad is as powerful and moving as any song they've ever done. But overall, this is a high-energy album despite its laid-back approach and smooth production.

Released on August 12, 1991, the gestation of THE BLACK ALBUM was a difficult and troubled one as differences of opinion and approach between the band and producer, Bob Rock, were an ongoing feature. But no doubt about it, the craft and perseverance paid off; the album debuted at number one in ten countries including the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden and spent four consecutive weeks at the top spot of the US charts, making it Metallica's first album to top the album charts. Metallica is also the group's best-selling album, selling more than 28 million copies worldwide, so far, and regularly features in Best Metal Album of All Time awards.

METALLITIA are the original "DROGHEDA LOCAL HEROES" after winning the title of Ireland's #1 tribute band when they won RTE's inaugural Reality Rock Show run over 5 weeks a couple of year's back.

The self-proclaimed local “hard-rock heroes” are Flash on vocals and guitar, Kieran McDonnell on lead guitar, Paddy Levins on bass guitar and Toalza on drums.

The Drogheda rockers formed ten years ago as lifelong friends and fans of Metallica, and have been gigging across the UK and Ireland ever since.

They aim to give crowds a taste of the epic band “in your local” and boast furious high-energy performances as close to the real thing without the huge venues and ticket prices.

he band’s highlights during the last two years included playing at Ireland’s tribute festival Sham Rock and featuring in an RTE reality show which saw them win a place on the headlining bill for Europe’s top tribute festival Glastonbudget in England.

This is the first time the METALLITIA have performed at DUBLIN since last year; they will be playing the city's finest all-purpose music venue which is sure to create a great environment for the band and gig-goers to rock out. The band say their repertoire will please dedicated fans or those who just like the odd Metallica tune as they will also be showcasing both the band's best known tracks and many other nuggets from various albums.

After ten years of performing, METALLITIA say their gigs are “more furious and heartfelt than ever before and it ain’t slowing down anytime soon”.

If you like your music fast and furious then this gig is not to be missed.

Metallitia are playing THE VILLAGE on FRIDAY 18TH MAY...

"D.R.I. are coming back to Dublin for a one-off show on their 30th Anniversary Tour.

D.R.I. were one of the first bands to fuse hardcore punk with thrash metal, along with Suicidal Tendencies and Corrosion of Conformity. Starting off as a speedy, straight-ahead punk band, they gradually mixed more elements of heavy metal into their sound; as they did so, their songs got longer and featured more sections and more variety in tempo. D.R.I. managed the then-rare feat of crossing over to metal audiences while retaining their skatepunk and hardcore fan bases -- they had something for all those audiences to love (or hate). "

"Every Time I Die have never been an easy act to categorize and that's one of the key reasons why the band's fans have never turned their back on this innovative act's unique brand of music. While the band started out in the late '90s hardcore scene, over the past decade they've continued to evolve and push the boundaries of heavy music, a process that's culminating with their sixth full-length Ex Lives.

It’s impossible to deny that in an increasingly stagnant musical climate, Every Time I Die are still pushing the limits of their own sound—and Ex Lives is aural evidence that after over a decade together they're anything but complacent. "I had to prove myself 100 percent from the beginning like I did when we put out our first record to show the other guys in Every Time I Die as well as myself that I could do this and I couldn't be happier with the end result," Keith summarizes when asked to describe Ex Lives. "This feels like a new band in a way… it's just its own thing and that feels really, really good."

US Hardcore Heroes, with special guests:

    FAT ACTRESS

    SATURDAY OCTOBER 20TH
CYPRUS AVENUE, CAROLINE ST, CORK CITY
    TICKETS €18.50 (+ booking fees)

Every Time I Die have never been an easy act to categorize and that's one of the key reasons why the band's fans have never turned their back on this innovative act's unique brand of music. While the band started out in the late '90s hardcore scene, over the past decade they've continued to evolve and push the boundaries of heavy music, a process that's culminating with their sixth full-length Ex Lives.

Recorded by Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens Of The Stone Age) Ex Lives sees the band—vocalist Keith Buckley, guitarists Jordan Buckley and Andy Williams, drummer Ryan Leger—coming together to create the most forward-thinking album of their career.

“Everything about this record was new," Keith explains. "Normally I'm in a comfort zone when I write lyrics because I'm just holed up in my apartment, but this time I was finding little corners of clubs in Europe with [side-project] the Damned Things trying to squeeze in a couple of hours of writing and I think that process really affected the way this album came together."

Keith adds that although Every Time I Die's party vibe has been well-documented in the past,Ex Lives saw the band approaching the album from a more serious perspective. "There's no song like 'We'rewolf' on this album," Keith explains. "I was pretty angry when we were writing these songs which isn't a good spot for a human being but is good if you’re a guy singing in a band," he continues with a laugh. "I was just really angry and disappointed with a lot of things in my life at the time and I think that definitely comes through on a lot of these songs; I was wondering if it was all karma because I was a horrible person in a past life and that's where the album title came from."

From the syncopated chaos of the opening salvo "Underwater Bimbos From Outer Space" to the progressive mosh anthem "A Wild, Shameless Plain" and relentless metal riffage of "The Low Road Has No Exits," Ex Lives sees Every Time I Die further tempering their aggression while also implementing new instrumentation such as banjo (see the sinister intro of "Partying Is Such Sweet Sorrow") and, yes, flute (see the end of "Indian Giver") in order to recontextualize exactly what it means to be a heavy band, which is something that has endeared them to fans for thirteen years.

"I don't think us doing anything different is a surprise to Every Time I Die fans because one of the main reasons why a lot of people have stuck by us for so long is because they know they can expect the unexpected with each release," Keith explains, adding that if you listen close enough you'll take note of plenty of sonic subtleties on Ex Lives. "There are a lot of little weird things that I think people will start noticing more as they listen to the album," he elaborates. "I'd never added any keyboard or synthesizer elements to an Every Time I Die song before so it was a really cool opportunity to expand the sound on this disc."

Similarly Ex Lives also sees Keith pushing his limits on songs like "I Suck (Blood)," which proves how versatile the band's vocalist has become whether he's cathartically screaming or crooning an upper register melody. "On albums like [2007's] The Big Dirty no one heard my vocals until the album was totally done but on this one everyone had their input on what I was doing vocally and they could give me suggestions to improve them," Keith says, adding that this disc was more collaborative for the band. "I think I was also more energetic because I was nervous to sing in front of everyone."

L.A. Guns got their start on Los Angeles’ Sunset Strip. The band was formed in 1986 and signed with Polygram Records in 1987, recording their first album that summer. This first album, titled “L.A. Guns”, went on to sell 750,000 copies and earned the band its first gold album award. Tours with AC/DC, Iron Maiden and Def Leppard followed. A compilation of the videos made from this first album also earned the band a gold video award. L.A. Guns went into the studio to record their second album, “Cocked and Loaded”, in the spring of 1989. It was a hit right away with the release of “Rip and Tear” as the first single and video. “Never Enough” and “The Ballad of Jayne” followed, pushing album sales over 1,000,000 and earning the band its first platinum record award. The video compilation from this album earned the band its second gold video award. A successful world tour followed. The band’s third album, “Hollywood Vampires”, was recorded in the fall of 1990. With the release of “Kiss My Love Goodbye” as the first single and video, and another successful world tour, the album went on to sell 700,000 copies and earned the band its third gold album award.

The band went back into the studio in 1994 to start work on their next album “Vicious Circle”. It was released in early 1995 and was followed by another successful world tour. Between 1996 and 1999, the band’s members branched out recording and working on outside projects. In late 1999, L.A. Guns went into the studio to record a greatest hits package titled “Black Beauties” that also included five new songs written for the album. The band toured with Poison, Ratt, and others throughout the summer of 2000. In 2001, the band released its sixth studio album, “Man in the Moon”. The band also changed Bass Guitarists with Adam Hamilton joining the band. A successful world tour followed. The reviews of the album were great and the band was determined to follow this up with an even stronger set of songs for the next release.

L.A. Guns entered the studio for their seventh album in early 2002 with veteran producer Andy Johns, who had worked with the likes of Led Zeppelin and Van Halen , to record “Waking the Dead”. The album was released in late 2002 and garnered L.A. Guns some of the best reviews the band had ever received. It was also when Tracii Guns decided to quit the band to do “Brides Of Destruction” with Nikki Sixx. That same year, L.A. Guns acquired Stacey Blades to handle the guitar slot. Blades had been around the L.A. music scene for many years recording and playing Lead Guitar in both Roxx Gang, Supercool & S.M.A.C.K. He fit the bill perfectly coming from the same school of rock that L.A. Guns are from. When the US tour to support “Waking the Dead” ended, Tracii announced that he was ”officially” leaving L.A. Guns. The band continued to tour despite his untimely departure.

After a 2003 world tour to support “Waking the Dead”, L.A. Guns went into the studio in January of 2004 to record “Rips the Covers Off” with producer Andy Johns. This was a collection of 70′s rock songs. Once again, the band went on a full world tour to support the new CD. In May of 2005, L.A. Guns began work on “Tales from the Strip” with Andy Johns again producing. The “Tales” CD was released August 2005. Reviews were great with many saying it was some of the best music out today. L.A. Guns hooked up with WASP for a early summer thru September tour. In early 2006, L.A. Guns did some local L.A . shows and recorded them for a new live CD. This new live CD, “Loud and Dangerous”, was released late August 2006 with the band again supporting it with a world tour.

In Early 2007 long time Bassist Adam Hamilton decided to do songwriting and producing full time. The guys acquired Hollywood Veteran Scott Griffin, but in Mid 2009 Griffin left the band to do a residency in Las Vegas. Kenny Kweens from Beautiful Creatures quickly came aboard as the new Bass Guitarist. 2011 sparked the triumphit return of Scotty Griffin on Bass. The “Bookends” (Stacey and Scotty) and the boys are geared to tear it up across the world giving audiences the high octane Rock-n-Roll that is L.A. Guns.

"D.R.I. are coming back to Dublin for a one-off show on their 30th Anniversary Tour.

D.R.I. were one of the first bands to fuse hardcore punk with thrash metal, along with Suicidal Tendencies and Corrosion of Conformity. "

    + PETE MAC PARADOX

    THIS TUESDAY, AUGUST 7TH
    CYPRUS AVENUE **NOTE VENUE CHANGE**
€5 AT THE DOOR, €4 WITH INDIEPENDENCE/LISSARD TICKET

The perfect post-festival cure! And cheap in with your ticket!

"One of today's master singer/songwriters and musicians." - Philadelphia Examiner

"A performer with a real streak of genius." - Maverick Magazine

"Nicolay's skill at playing punk sage on one song and slightly troubled troubadour on the next is really something special." - Pitchfork

"Recasting the windswept folk artist as someone with piratical swagger…like Nick Cave leading an American Pogues," - Q Magazine

Franz Nicolay is that multi-instrumentalist and man-about-town, peddling a modern vaudeville with full-throated songs and stories shamelessly strident, stentorian and more than a little sentimental. He's been a member of cabaret-punk circus World/Inferno Friendship Society, world's best bar band The Hold Steady, gypsy-klezmer carnies Guignol, outlaw orchestra Anti-Social Music, and agit-punks Against Me!; and performed or recorded with everyone from Leftover Crack to Bruce Springsteen. He has been a contributor to magazines from Blender to Impose, is a regular columnist for the literary journal InDigest, and has released several collections of essays. His first story collection, ‘Complicated Gardening Techniques’, was published by Julius Singer Press in 2009.

Nicolay has been hailed as a charismatic "born performer," "a storyteller and entertainer in the cabaret and vaudevillian tradition.

    Out on a Limb presents

    JOGGING
    'TAKE COURAGE' - ALBUM LAUNCH
with special guests GUILTY OPTICS & ELK

    Whelan's, 25 Wexford St, D2.

    Saturday 25th August
    Doors 8pm
Tickets €10/€15 with LP & Digital Download

2 songs from the album can be streamed here:
    http://soundcloud.com/ooal/jogging-deadweight
    http://soundcloud.com/ooal/jogging-stand-still

Released Friday, August 24th on Out On A Limb Records

Take Courage is Jogging’s follow-up to the much-acclaimed Minutes (2010, Richter Collective), taking a leap in fidelity having been recorded in June 2012 with U.S. producer Chris Common (ex-These Arms Are Snakes, with production credits for Minus The Bear, Pelican, Mastodon, and Tiny Vipers under his belt). It will be Jogging’s first release for Out On A Limb Records, coming out on vinyl (with download) and digital on Friday, August 24th.

Jogging awakened in 2009 and quickly gained a formidable live reputation. They have toured Ireland and the UK, sharing the stage with Wire, Polvo, Ponytail, And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead and Themselves amongst others. Jogging's music has been described as "an intense, raw blend of post-hardcore and gutsy indie rock”.

Take Courage sees Jogging dealing with constantly rearranging social structures, the aging process, and the effects of living out an extended teenhood throughout one's twenties, all served up with a hefty dollop of malice and spite (albeit mostly directed towards same selves). The composition and collaboration is a marked progression on Minutes, where no part overstays its welcome and every transition is seamless yet startling. Sonically, it is worlds apart from the first record, as drums thunder their way through each turn, the well-rounded yet distorted bass rumbles and drives the melodies and the guitars cut though like ice-picks. The band's trademark call-and-response vocals are barked with authority and conviction down to their last breath, and every word has
resonance. A rare thing for an Irish record in 2012.

The album will be officially launched at Whelan’s, Dublin, on Saturday, August 25th, with special guests Elk and Guilty Optics. The launch will be followed by dates around Ireland in September.

    LIVE DATES
    • Sat, Aug 25th: Whelan’s, Dublin w/guests Elk & Guilty Optics.
