Donnybrook is 6000 at full capacity and will these games reach that? Games could certainly reach that level of attendance or similar if played in Cork/Belfast/Limerick

While I would prefer they stuck with Ashbourne I think the fact that it's in the city might make for higher attendance.

No idea why they chose to move. Floodlights issue last year aside, Ashbourne have been perfect hosts.

attendance in recent years has been predominantly driven by the womens club rugby teams (and players family/friend/relatives), I think a larger portion of the womens teams are in the Dublin and surrounding areas so it makes sense to play them in Dublin

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,833 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

There's probably not too many family members living within the 2 canals, a good portion would be in the various suburbs, from which Ashbourne is extremely easy to get to, and find parking in.

Given a choice I'd go to Ashbourne every time, particularly with Friday evening traffic for example.

you think 6,000 would show up for a womans game in Cork/Belfast/Limerick? Thomand had 12,000 for H-Cup opener. not sure Limerick has the rugby going public of old.

No there probably wouldnt be 6000 in Limerick/Belfast or Cork but why should all or nearly all internationals be concentrated in D4? That there wouldn't be 6000 at games in any of those cities isn't the point
When will the rest of the country next see an international at any grade?
The Aviva deal for Lansdowne Road means no senior internationals outside of the capital but why cant any other internationals be played in the other cities?

The dates and venues will be finalised in due course but the England test is provisionally pencilled in for the weekend of 12/13th November with the Canada test to be played on the weekend of 19th/20th November.

Great to see this. Will be great advantage ahead of 6 nations and hopefully these become an annual affair

Womens AIL division 1 finished last weekend.
The semi-finals will be played next Sunday with UL Bohemians at home to Railway Union and Blackrock hosting Old Belvedere

Munster divisions 1/2 scheduled to finish in next week or two and I don't know schedule post Christmas.

Still a few of the SQ team of the year out there, hopefully another good year in store.

Murphy and a few others are not injured. Theyre playing with the 7s side against Australia in Sydney Saturday/Sunday week and then have next round of world series in Brazil 2 weeks after that

I think you'll find you're wrong on that, she's been out a while.

I think you'll find you're wrong on that, she's been out a while.

The radio news said herself, Miller and Baxter are with the 7's squad so perhaps she's back from injury? She also tweeted pictures of herself on a wattbike.

Most of the 7's squad have been wrapped in cotton wool and not training with their clubs so perhaps she hasn't been around Belvo at all.

If she's back for the 7s that would be fantastic, would be delighted to see it. It was definitely considered unlikely just a few weeks ago.

Official world rankings introduced for the first time. Ireland ranked 4th.

    http://www.worldrugby.org/news/134344
The rankings were introduced after a comprehensive process of obtaining and analysing every result from the first official women's international matches dating back to 1987 and are based on the same criteria as the men's rankings.

Interesting team selection. Granted I haven't been following much of the progress / interpros this year due to injury, but Egan at 1 is a left of field call! Also when you've a relatively new centre partnership, surely Stapleton and Sheils should be there for experience??

That back row though...! Wow. Some amount of power.

Good day for Tralee too - two new caps named in the 23.

Can't wait for the game now. I wussed out and bought seated tickets.

Why do you think its a "left of field call"?

No not really. Whole team is inexperienced but having them on bench to calm things if necessary is good...

3 uncapped players for Ireland, 10 players playing in the 6 Nations for the first time

Because she has played at tight head in all other appearances for club / country, and is a superb tight head prop.

I don't disagree about having them on the bench to calm things, however we saw a similar Ireland team line up against a similar Welsh team a few weeks ago, and they came away with a loss. I just hope that they gel together.

In saying that, having played against most of these ladies, they're phenomenal athletes and should have enough to beat Wales. Hopefully. It could be tight though. Wales are a decent outfit.

She's been mixing between the two this season and certainly played some of the conclusion of AIL at loosehead.

Ah cool, did not know that! I was out of action for the entire AIL - as in couldn't even drive to watch matches! I've only ever seen her at 3 where she schooled me a few times :P Interesting to see how it goes!

just watching the last 10 minute, the game is being played between the wales try line and 5m line, no kidding

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,994 ✭✭✭sullivlo

    Great win for the women!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,994 ✭✭✭sullivlo

They could have won by many more. Like aimee1 said, the last 10 mins was played in the Welsh 5m line. Just lack of the ability to be clinical in the red zone.

Phenomenal performance by some. Egan went well (at 3!) and realised what was going wrong in our scrum, which allowed us to steal a few of theirs. Line out misfired lots.

Spence had a great game. As did Fitzpatrick. They were everywhere.
