Great episode, the stuff with Jimmy and Capone was great.Don't really care for the Margaret/Nucky stuff atm.

The scene with Van Alden at the end was pretty creepy.

Really enjoying this show. Carmody is a great character but I fear that it wont end well for him, its hard to know where he stands with Al. The more i think about it, Al will see him as competition rather than a "buddy".

Nucky is great though, he has some quality lines and the way he changes tone and expression expecially with his butler/driver/general helper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

Another very good episode. Jimmy and Al taking out their competition was really well done.

Van Alden is creeping me out. That scene at the end was really weird.

At the start of Ep 5 and Nucky and Eli were having breakfast was it a little nod to Reservoir Dogs? Nucky says he is a good tipper then Eli says it doesn't make sense...Nucky replies "because it doesn't mean anything"....I thought so anyway. Pretty cool.

An excellent episode in an already great TV show, I'm really liking it so far.

I knew Van Alden had something more to him but.............jeez, what a dark wierd man. It does solidify his straight as an arrow character though.

Jimmy and Al doing the business on the "micks" was ace, I'm beginning to warm to Jimmy now. Plus I thought Al was going to blow him the fùck away after Jimmy embarrased him in front of everyone. Stephen Graham really plays the up the intense with Al.

    Can't wait for next week.

The main plot is about prohibition in the United States during the 1920's...maybe its to complicated for you to follow..:P
That's not the main plot of the show, it's the historical context. Just like how Mad Men is about ad-men in Madison avenue, but the main plot is about ... well feck all as well tbh.

Watching Ep.5 atm and my views haven't changed. Poor show.

always weary when there is so much hype. but this show is brilliant:D:D

Great episode there. Really like the way Jimmy and Al are starting to go around pushing their weight now and in such a snakey fashion. There should be even more bloodshed in the next few weeks. I can see the potential for things to kick off between Jimmy and Al also. That was a pretty nervy scene when Jimmy answered the door of his room.

Stephen Graham is really beginning to steal the show for me, bringing everything he has to the table in his scenes. I thought the part where Jimmy was checking to see if the kid was deaf and eventually Al copping it was brilliantly acted. No need for dialogue at all

As for Margaret, I think she's only now beginning to realise what she's getting herself into with Nucky. Her reply to Lucy in the clothes shop was absolutely fantastic, "maybe your cunny isn't quite the draw you think it is". It really put her back in her box considering the stuff Lucy had been saying to her before that.

and another great episode! and now they even squeezed in some lesbian actions too in there...was wondering how Jimmy's wife didnt have a guy in the picture for 3 years while he was gone;)

All around, im loving the show!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,200 ✭✭✭Mindkiller

Ok, I was thinking of dropping it, but I can't pass up on any lesbian action now can I?

Although The Walking Dead will be taking priority over this from now on methinks.

    .

Ahah yep, if thats any interest to you then sure stick to it cos it didnt seem like a one off moment, seems theres a relationship going on there so more to come im guessing.

    That show is just brilliant

I had a double episode catch with ep. 6/7....HOT LESBO ACTION!!!!!
Love it!....that guy, the soldier...well creepy, good characterisation though....loved how Jimmy got yer man to take out the fella in the diner with the sniper rifle.

Again....lesbo action!, nice twist, think we were all expecting Jimmy's wife to be porkin' male photographer guy. Why did they elude to Nucky possibly seeing them?....that was never shown was it?

No creepy Van Alden, i think Buchemi is getting better, it's still all rather slow...if you're looking for shootouts and what not, but it's more of a character based show.

Two solid eps. back to back...best way to watch it i think.

    Promo for upcomg/unaired episodes....be warned!

Great scene with Jimmy and that bastard who cut his girl.

I like this show, but this episode didnt feel like a good vehicle for the character of Knucky.

Great scene with Jimmy and that bastard who cut his girl.

I like this show, but this episode didnt feel like a good vehicle for the character of Knucky.

Its as if they are building up to something - the robbery at the casino i would imagine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,295 ✭✭✭✭Duggy747

Excellent episode, this show isn't disappointing me at all. Jimmy's wife is a saucy little minx getting it on with that photographer's wife.........needs more fisting, though :pac:

I couldn't warm to Jimmy for a while but since the girl was cut up by that "Mick bastard" he's really come into his own, utilising the horror of what he saw in war to his advantage of getting things done.

I kept hoping he wouldn't let the dirty fùcker live as he walked out the door and then *POW* I completely forgot about the sniper buddy he made. Excellent :D

I think the casino robbery is going to be a turning point for things to come, possibly with all sides going against each other (Chalky thinking Nucky is fùckin' around with him!)

    Can't wait for next week

I thought it was Jimmy's mother and his wife?

    She is the ultimate MILF!

Very good episode the nuckie character I still don't know if he's morally good or bad he's a tricky one to judge. Love the chicago side of the series love The jimmy character that sniper lad was mental really fascinating character

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,206 ✭✭✭gustavo

Yea I love the duality of Nuckies character

Jimmy is getting better every week and I like the way that they can leave characters out of it totally for a week

The sniper was cool though you could see what was going to happen a mile off :)

I just want to throw in a mention for the detective who beats himself with the belt. Amazing character! In fact, all the characters in this show are great!

Agent Nelson Van Alden. great character and i reckon he's going to be one of the biggest problems Nucky et al are going to have to face this season. :)

I think his biggest nemesis is his blinkered boss and likely corruptable organsation and not Nucky. It's not like it's hard to figure out he's the essential cog in the bootlegging operation, but when you're so well backed by your organsation that the only office you can get is a sorting room in the local post office you know he's not exactly got resources on hand. I think him chasing Nucky will be as much of a sexual issue as it is law enforcement given his infatuation with Margaret.

Yeah, I got that impression too, especially given he has to set up shop in a post office, really shows how they arent equiped(or even pushed) to do any real work.

Good episode. Will be interesting to see Jimmy back in AC. I like the Chicago story so I hope we continue to have a decent dollop of Al and the boys.

Yeah it was pretty solid, Nucky's ex having a meltdown, i think Margaret handled that well and whapped her!, Van Alden....utter weirdo!, sick fecker as well, not sending his wife the money to get the op. - but sends the cash onto Jimmy's wife, finally.

Nucky and Jimmy back together, the war now starts, my only complaint is that it was the shortest ep. yet at 50 mins!!

it was a great build up for next weeks episode, just a shame we have to wait a week to see what happens. :(

    Cracking episode.

Cant wait to see how Nucky takes on the people who have been stealing from him.

There is such a great story here and its set in such a interesting time, where everything looks new and properly made.

Need to get me a new suit.

    Another great episode.

Jimmy has become my favourite character and the way the season is shaping up it looks like he is going to become Nucky's main muscle. He will definitely be bringing the sniper war veteran with him back to AC, looking forward to seeing how they get back at Luciano and the other goons he is in with.

I liked the reveal also where Jimmy's mother is gathering intel on Luciano for Jimmy, it's a pretty odd but interesting relationship between Jimmy and his ma. She just looks too young to be his mother but I guess she was very young when he was born
when she was with Nucky most likely
. I've a feeling we will be getting some of her backstory in the next episode or two.

Just 4 more episodes to end of season :\

afaik, in real life there's only about 8 or 9 years between the two actors playing jimmy and his mother, so its easy to find it a little odd that they look so close age wise.

One scene that completely gripped me was when that FBI agent, name escapes me, and his wife were sitting down to dinner. I didnt know if he was going to hit her or hug her!

He is just so so strange.

It was actually quite an insight into the character and in it's own way a valorous act. If he was syphoning money too, his role would be somewhat pointless.

A 50 minute episode is actually a great sign of restraint - HBO gives its shows the lee-way to thrive or to hang themselves and the shorter running-time hints at a decision not to over-elaborate and I very much appreciate that.

He is just so so strange.

I never got the sense of phsyical danger, just emotional danger. He's obviously so removed from her that he causes huge pain to her without even intending to. I think the most beautiful moment in that scene was the shot of the mirror as he said grace, with his reflection paritioned from her's.

It was said by his mother and by Nucky he hadn't really called anyone since he left for Chicago and the way Jimmy asked about Luciano I don't think the implication was that she was doing it at his behest. What she did was very much of her own accord to find out more about what was happening and who was after her son. Her letting Luciano believe she was Jimmy's wife had as much to do with her own issues - ageing and sexuality - as they had to do with Jimmy.

Each state has a certain amount of delegates who vote on who is to be selected for that particular party's nomination for president. Nucky held sway over the New Jersey delegation so he switched support to Harding because he thought he had a shot at winning and if he did he would surely get the road money that Senator Edge had screwed him over on, not to mention nixing Edge's own political ambitions.

Another excellent episode, lots of twists....Van Aldens agent is working for Nucky?, Jimmy arrested, Nucky almost assissinated!, jesus he was close to taking that bullet!, fair dues to German butler dude....he stepped up and blocked the shot + winged one of the guys in the leg, never thought he'd step up like that.

Margaret, embracing the power Nucky provides, she's a little manipulator!....she played Nucky and got a free dress!

Van Alden is just a nutter, he's right obsessed with Margaret!....this is now shaping up to a climax with three episodes to go, the quality has been consistent as has the scripting and acting and all round production.

Any members not seen this show should really give it a try.

I hope Nucky starts treating Eddie better now that he saved his life. He seems like a decent guy but Nucky always gives him a hard time and if he's not careful Eddie might just let the next guy try to finish the job. I wonder if Lucky will do anything to Gillian as revenge for her letting Jimmy get to him. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Richard when he gets to Atlantic City, he comes across as a pretty dark character. Also I hope we haven't seen the last of Al Capone.

I have all the episodes thus far saved and I just watched the first. It seems pretty good, but I find the characters hard to keep track of. I had no idea who was dead, who was doing the robbing, etc.

Does this get better or is it still just as confusing as to what characters relate to who and who is crooked etc.?

It takes awhile to get accustomed to the amount of characters. I've seen all the episodes-- the first 5 twice!-- and there's still a few reoccurring characters whom I can't figure out the names of.

Will have to rewatch the first season again just to get more of a feel for individual characters, but the plot's still, miraculously, not hard to follow even if you're not sure about who's who.

I'm usually pretty good with shows like this with loads of characters and arcs etc.

But after watching the first episode I had to hit the web for a summary of what I just saw.

I'm sure I'll get used to it!

Another good episode. Jimmy is a quality character, especially look forwarrd to seeing his scenes. As well as that FBI agent.

Probably in my top 2 favourite shows at the moment.

Is next weeks the last episode of this series?

Another good episode . Is next weeks the last episode of this series?

    God I hope no!

I'm too much into it and sadly HBO makes their series with a year or more in between!

Amazing show, love it more and more each week.

They do love the male audiences that's for sure, first their was sexy scenes, then lesbians action ... Favourite quote this week was "everyone is doing it in Paris"..;)

Is it just me or Jimmy at the beginning of the serie was appearing to be a older teenager young man and now after Chicago it comes back as grown men almost. Seems he was gone for ages but he's wife make it sounds like it was few months only.
Anyway, I can see loads happening, plenty of possibilities.

    Awesome!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,295 ✭✭✭✭Duggy747

Again, the quality on this show is relentless, absolutely loving it. The characters are awesome, especially the FBI agent........absolutely cracked.

I wasn't sure of Jimmy at first but now I like his character, even though he always seems to have bad luck (Always getting caught, wife's a lezzer, etc) :pac: The change from him being a young guy trying to get into the organised crime to a man knowing what he wants and revelling the things he saw in war is good.

I think there's supposed to be 3 / 4 more episodes which is good because after the attempt on Nucky's life things have shifted up a gear for them.

Awesome show that makes Mondays that bit better!

    Absolutely loving this show.

For me the most interesting character arc has been that of Mrs Schroeder. In a period of time where women are second class citizens and with the show being set in a world of gangsters and violence i think the writers deserve great credit for the way they've developed her story so far.
