'.....the sun rises here to save us now'

Yeah,.... the happy sunny days are comin back like a rip roaring 90's flashback, a superhero to proper stomp out all the false idols of the last 2 decades. All you fake wannabe hipster bands with yer punctured ear lobes worshipping false idols of the commercial music industry, this is the real sounds right here! Stick your faux techno glow rings back in your wardrobe cause its all about the craft with the FNR. You better believe it!

Big gap from 28 June - Aug 9 to fill in yet though. Probably more festivals and hopefully an Irish date

Sure they'd have to do an Irish date, I wonder what size venue they'd fill these days in Ireland?
Doubt they'd do the outdoor thing here. Sure what kind of line up would they fit into when you consider the festivals in Ireland.

Probably more shows will be announced to fill in the huge gap, an Irish date would be cool, and it would allow me a chance to cross FNM of the list of bands i want to see live.

Yeah would be great. I saw them 3 times in '92 & '93 but missed the reunion gig a few years back as I was on holidays.

Only Logical dates are June 14-20 after Download before Hellfest where there is a gap.

The venue would obviously be the Olympia/Academy. Last gig here was Olympia not can't see them advancing on that now perhaps more than one night.

Probably zero chance of them squeezing in a date here on the Monday, Tuesday or Thursday of that week

Olympia was too small it sold out instantly. It's the summer, Kilmainham would do the size ask nicely I reckon.

They've put out a remix of Superhero. Not my kind of thing but might appeal to some

Said I'd give a heads up supposedly if registered with the Roundhouse you can see that a Thursday date is gonna be released.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,382 ✭✭✭Motley Crue

Got a ticket to the Roundhouse from an amazingly great Scottish friend. So I am chuffed to bits to be going. Last time I seen them was in 2009 in Edinburgh so it's a reunion for me with both Glasgow and Faith No More! Should be amazing!

Is it looking unlikely they'll do a show here?
Thinking I'll head abroad to see them if that's the case. Maybe Berlin.

Sadly it looks like Sol Invictus has leaked in full. While I'm eager to hear it I can wait until May 18th! We've all waited long enough for a new album!

Seen them end of January here in brisbane. Ears are still buzzing from how great they were.....

Saw that alright, and even though I'm dying to hear it, I have the limited edition clear vinyl pre-ordered (as well as the digital version :D), so I'll wait till then too; the way they intended!

Loving all the new tracks live though, as Billy said, they have a lovely bit of "space" to them.

I'm definitely waiting. I want to experience getting it on cd the day it comes out.

I've had 2 listens now and it's good. I don't think it's a classic by any means but it's as good as I expected it to be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,382 ✭✭✭Motley Crue

I like it, looking forward to (hopefully) picking up a gold Vinyl from my local record store on Friday morning

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,577 ✭✭✭lord lucan

Gave this a couple of listens today and I'm impressed. I wasn't sure if I wanted to hear it as their back catalogue is outstanding and I was concerned it would sully their legacy but I needn't have feared. It's no AD or KFAD but it's definitely better than AOTY.

Almost forgot to post this, audio of their show at Slane in '92 for those who were there and remember their killer set.

My iTunes pre-order downloaded there at midnight, one full listen since, (couldn't check out the stream unfortunately) and I must say I'm actually astounded at how good it is, even after all those great reviews I'm still surprised!

And I can confirm that this is definitely a FNM album! FNM have some strange ability to release music that's different from anything they've released before, and still have it sound like a FNM album.

It's interesting that back when Tomahawk released their first album and Mit Gas people were saying "this sounds like Faith No More", but when I heard the first track, "Sol Invictus", I was like "this sounds like Tomahawk" haha! Well the intro to "Cone of Shame" certainly does anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,347 ✭✭✭✭Grayditch

They've never had a bad or mediocre album and I'm glad I've waiting until today to get it on Cd (if I can).

What a buzz Superhero was, the clean hard sounds of the instruments underproduced instead of over produced! Such a joy to hear something real

    Banquet Records (direct link)

Not mad about Sol Invictus, so far.
Matador, Motherfudger and Separation Anxiety are decent. The title track feels like it ends just as it's getting going.
Few of the others might be growers.

I am disgusted. And why must people be so judgmental of others musical tastes or bands they have not heard before.
Nature of the net i'm afraid.

It has the best parts of the last 3 FNM albums,

its really quiet enjoyable, really hope we get a gig in ireland.

Unfortunately Banquet weren't able to fulfill my order as they got fewer copies of the gold vinyl than they were expecting. :(

I've ordered it elsewhere, we'll see what happens, I suppose.

Ah crap, I ordered it from tower records arrived yesterday. gold edition

Been giving this a spin today. It's certainly short and sweet but with plenty of depth to it. Patton, as usual, is his mercurial self. It immediately evokes Tomahawk rather than a FNM album and initially there appears to be little in the way of connection to previous FNM albums but it probably requires more listens to get into the spirit of the album.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,347 ✭✭✭✭Grayditch

With Patton continuing some of the vocal styles he employs in Tomahawk, coupled with the fact that Bottom isn't using the (probably outdated now) big synthy strings it's definitely sounding more modern like Tomahawk. The thing that really pulls it back to being Faith No More is Gould's bass playing, I think. That and the little Angel Dust style piano arpeggios.

I didn't expect the album to be as good as it is. When one of your favourite bands does a comeback album it can be good but underwhelming (Jane's Addiction's "Strays"), but I think this has its own place in the discography already for me.
