Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I just noticed I'm registered on boards for a year now. It took me a further 2 months to figure out what AH was after that, and one questionable porn thread later, I've never looked back :P

But glancing over some of my earlier posts it's clear I've come a feckin' long way from those days and matured a decent bit since. My posting style has evolved a bit even.

I'd say growing up in general had the biggest influence on that but I'll give boards a chunk of credit for broadening my view on things and constantly teaching me useful things along the way like how to resent scumbags and hipsters.

Not to mention some of the posters here are cute enough hoors at that and are good for a questionable laugh :D

Do you notice a difference in how you post now compared to when you first started, significant or not?

Previously I'd never have tried to undermine somebody's post just to get a few shallow thanks.

I think that's just since I started posting in AH though...

God, yeah. I cringe reading my old posts, and I'm sure I'll do the same reading current ones back in the future.

To be fair though, I think I was about 14 when I first started posting here, I'd be more worried if I hadn't changed.

I was 14 when I opened my boards account and now I'm 26, so yes I'd say I've changed a hell of a lot. Boards has changed a lot over the years as well.

I was 20, I'm now 24 (going on 25). I've gone through an absolute fúck-load in those intervening years. Some good, some bad, some funny, some sad. But it's all been an experience, if nothing else.

The old adage rings true: older and wiser. Add to that, more cynical and a shade less optimistic, but more realistic.

I enjoy posting on boards. But it got me into trouble in the past. Ruined my friendship with a few people when they discovered the vitriol I'd posted in anger. That was an... "interesting" conversation (confrontation, moreso, maybe???), shall we say. Do I regret that? Yes. I do. Deeply. I was angry at the time. It's the reason, not the excuse. In my defence about that, none of what I wrote about events (not my personal feelings) was fabricated. Everything that I wrote about happening; it all did happen. And it made my blood boil at the time.

But I look back on some of those posts now, and I'm shocked. Some of them were utterly and absolutely vicious. Some of them were pure, uncalled-for, fulminating rage. I am a helluva lot less angry these days than I was even merely a year ago.

I still swear a lot; here and in real life. Part of my make-up at this stage. But the beauty of it is, I can turn it on and off like a tap, when I want to. I just refuse to as I find it somewhat theraputic. I'd have had a stroke by now if I couldn't swear!

In the past 5 years, I've been through college, 3 different living arrangements, 3 cars, been to America twice, been to England countless times, saw so many live bands, was victim of an armed robbery, changed jobs several times, experienced glory and pain in the sporting world, lost friends, gained new friends, became a godfather, won a lotto (not THE Lotto, regrettably), wrote (an unpublished) novel, wrote (an un-optioned) screenplay, lost my grandmother, ran my own poker game, met with triumph and disaster and treated both those imposters the same... and god knows what else. The one constant was my endless posting and arguing on here, on boards.ie.

And that's the way it is, at 02:28 on Saturday, March 2nd, 2013. Goodnight, good morning and good luck.

Boards.ie managed to un-mangle my brainfarts into a more comprehensible scenario of thinking.

When I first joined boards I was a person that didn't think, and forwarded terrible answers to other posters questions and I was as you would say immature in relation to any topic regardless and also getting infractions left and right and banned for weeks, Oh i remember those holidays...........

In all honesty, communicating as much garbage that i do, boards.ie has helped me immensely to understand and stand back for a minute and truly learn how to converse in communication. I'm still learning, but a forum like this will teach you many things in time.

A community of many different individuals of different thoughts but communicating in a civilized way but we can all fall off-angle sometimes but there is always someone there to put you back on the right track.

I have changed a lot since first posting here, it was only four years ago.

When I found Boards I was at an awful time in my life. I found so much information on boards about my situation at the time it was fantastic. I also went to a few beers in the beginning and met some really nice people. Boards got me out of the house again and interacting with people, which is funny when you think about it as people are always assuming that if you spend too much time online you become a hermit.

Over the years, I have found so much practical and emotional help here, as well as some bizzare stuff too.

I think the " Lets all laugh at people with Depression " thread is one of the best things to ever happen here and also PI is an eye opener.

Work and jobs forums were fantastic when I was out of a job too.

Overall , I really enjoy boards and appreciate having it as a source of information and interaction.

Don't post a hell of a lot but am always reading.

Suffice to say, it has had an influence on my life.

    Thanks Boards.

Changed much? No, but when I intially joined, I probably wouldn't have ignored the newly registered muppet, who quoted my post in the Skinny Jeans thread earlier today. Oh and thanks to my AH brother or sister who reported it. Generally in life, I find there's no point wasting time on fúcktárds.
