Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Sorry Andy but your answer appears to conflict with what Steve said to a similar question
It is a bit confusing with two Mods saying almost the opposite of each other

Fully understandable steve is an adverts mod so i'll always give way for them in adverts questions

    Hi,
If a for sale thread is a couple of months old and it appears from the correspondence that a deal was made (brought to pm's) but nothing concrete was stated that the item was sold is it okay to comment asking whether it's still available?
    Thanks
    Eoin

Yep thats not a problem at all. It happens all the time.
Again once everything is kept on thread and once the thread isnt dating back to 2009 its ok

Just a small curiosity - with regard to threadspoiling; if you have a genuine interest in an item, and if you know you can buy it for cheaper, or not much dearer, are you allowed post that it can be bought for less to incite a drop in asking price?

I understand that threadspoiling is to protect attacks on sellers, but I was just thinking that the lines are blurred when it comes to buying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,561 ✭✭✭andy_g

You could say i offer X for this item as i have seen it here for this price. Then it would not be thread spoiling but if you jus post oh you can get that item cheaper at this site (insert website here) it could be seen as thread spoiling.

    Hey,
About two days ago I posted on a thread expressing interest in a airsoft pistol somebody was selling. I haven't got a reply even though the OP has been online at least twice since then. I'm pretty sure he is just browsing and thinks that his thread has gone cold. So is it acceptable for me to PM him saying that I made an offer on his thread, just so next time he comes online he will see the PM and check the thread out and hopefully reply?

    Hi, MWoods
Best is to report a post in the thread or pm a mod and ask them to contact the seller - otherwise is could be seen as OTD. :)

What would be an exceptable amount of time to give someone to post something bought in the adverts forum after payment has been received and confirmed?

I would give or take 2 weeks then give a call. its hard to answer that question thought to be honest.

I have an item up for sale and it has been up a while and nobody has expressed an interest, somebody called over to me last night and had a look at said item and expressed an item. He is not on boards. If he bid offfline and no one had bid online, could i just ask the mod to close the thread.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,561 ✭✭✭andy_g

    Hey captaincook.
You can post on the thread that the item is removed from sale for X reason.

    hey andy

just wondering if putting up a add lets say 'wii/ps3/xbox for aeg'
against the rules? i thought you could only put a non airsoft item to trade for a specific airsoft item eg 'ps3 trade for scar' ?

    thanks

    ps look at this

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055871145

    is it allowed or not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,584 ✭✭✭✭Steve

This came up before, you can post an 'airsoft item wanted' ad here and offer to trade non airsoft kit but you can't just post non specifically. That's what adverts.ie is for.

Questions for ye, I've made a small run of custom parts for AUGs which I'm intending to sell on, is this allowable on here or would it fall foul of commercial selling rules? (mods feel free to PM and I'll tell you what, but I'll not mention it in the thread for fear of unauthorised advertising!)

Once they dont make any airsoft device over the 1J mark i wouldnt see a problem

Best thing is to pm a mod for advice - or - report your own ad with your concerns and all the mods will be notified.

In this case, I've looked at your ad and have no problem with you changing it to a for sale ad. I've closed the current one, feel free to list a fresh 'for sale' ad.

Please be specific about your asking price and terms of sale this time, the first ad was verging on 'interest checking' and that is frowned upon here as it (to put it mildly) may slightly upset the established community. :)

can you have a thread here on boards selling something and an ad on adverts.ie selling the same thing? Or would this be considered off-thread dealing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,561 ✭✭✭andy_g

I think advert.ie had a problem with selling airsoft device's there before.

But if for example you had offers on the item here and you accepted and then recieved a better offer via adverts more than likely you would go for the better offer causing some problems.
    Andy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,584 ✭✭✭✭Steve

Speaking as an adverts.ie mod as well, it would be preferable if you kept it to one place or the other but not both for the reasons explained by Andy.

Airsoft guns aren't permitted on adverts.ie so I assume you're talking about ancillary equipment ;).

If you have something on adverts and want to move it here (or vice versa) then drop me a pm and we can sort it out as long as it's within the rules.

A user posts a wanted ad for an item, I reply offering to sell said item but OP declines. I don't advertise the item for sale. A couple of weeks later another user PMs me asking if I am selling the item in question.

Is this considered to be off-thread dealing given that apart from replying to a wanted post I never advertised the item for sale and the user who PM'd me had no connection to the original wanted post? My reading of it is that it is merely a private deal between two users but I would like guidance/clarification before going any further as I have no wish to incur the wrath of the mods. Can I/we proceed as a private deal or do I need to post a for sale ad to make it kosher?

There's a couple of situations this can happen in.

    1. A FOR SALE thread where someone offers a trade for the item being sold and the offer is specifically rejected by the seller (OP).
    2. A WANTED thread where someone offers their item and the offer is specifically rejected by the buyer (OP).

To stay within the rules, you have the following options:

    1. You can not post on the thread to say that you want the offered item, this would be considered thread-spoiling.

    2. If the person offering the item already has a for sale thread here for it then you may place an offer on that thread.

    3. You can post your own WANTED thread here for the item in question (best option all round imo, you may also get better items offered to you).

    4. If the person offering the item does not have a for sale thread here for it then you may contact them privately (PM) *provided* that you only contact them after their offer was rejected. Bear in mind though that randomly contacting people via PM could possibly leave you open to your PM being reported and being dealt with by a site admin as possible spam. I've no control or say in in the matter if that happens.

I hope that makes sense, if not please ask :)

    Thanks DeBurca, that's correct.

Cyprinus, absolutely you're free to deal privately like this. Bear in mind if anything goes wrong with the deal then we (mods) aren't in a position to do anything about it.

Hello. Im just wondering about a GR15 G&G blowback and im thinking of creating a thread to see if they are available. But i wont have the money untill Christmas? Do i have to wait untill then or is it ok to start the thread now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,561 ✭✭✭andy_g

It would be best to wait until you have funds available to you. Or the other option is keep an eye on the adverts sub forum and see if one pops up in your price range.

I have a thread selling some gear, the largest piece being a G&G Raider Blowback, I didnt specify that in the heading, a new user made me an offer on the piece and i accepted, That person then over a series of PM's said he would not pay me for the item until i sent it and he inspected it / tested it, this went on for a few days and when i insisted to speak to a parent over pm's to ensure he was able to purchase he pulled out, My thread has now lost traction as a lot of time was wasted when i thought i had it sold, I want to start a new thread for the raider, can i do that?, and also can i leave a review for the person who wasted my time in suspicious circumstances questioning my legitimacy when i have a sterling record on boards and in the airsoft community?

    Feedback

A feedback thread exists for users to post positive or negative feedback on airsoft adverts they have been involved in.

If users have a problem, they are required to first attempt to resolve the issue before posting negative feedback. Resolving the issue requires communication with the other party involved and if they wish, to notify the forum moderators.

taken from the adverts charter, what is left in your thread? can you pm me a link so i can have a look?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,584 ✭✭✭✭Steve

Just to clarify, under current rules you can only leave feedback once a transaction has taken place - so, no, it wouldn't be appropriate in this case.

As thermo said, link to the specific thread or report a post and we'll take a look :)

as mcshape said should there be a timewasters feedback ?

    just wondering for future reference?

if the seller offers an item @ 90 euro
and the says 80 and it yours to a buyer who then pulls his offer.

does 80 euro become the new asking price ?

and if the next buyer offers the 80 euro. does he get first refusal?

even if someone later offers the original price of 90 ?

i copped it on a tread today and i'm a little confused????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,584 ✭✭✭✭Steve

    Hi fido,

    Asking price rules are:
    8.Asking price rules

    * Whoever offers the Asking price first gets first refusal.
    * The Asking price is the last price that the Seller has requested for the item.
    * After the Asking price is met, no user may offer "beyond" this; they may, however, continue to offer that Asking price in case that the first to offer drops out.

In this case the asking becomes 80 as soon as the seller is prepared to sell it at that.
The first person to offer 80 after the selleer posted that is considered to have offered asking price and is first in line.

After the seller posted, as 80 is the new asking price, nobody mak subsequently offer more than that.

So in my understanding, if you go to meet up with someone to do a transaction, but you don't feel happy with it and cancel for x, y, or z reason, does that mean that you can't say "feedback: went to meet up with Mr. x, y or z today, but was not happy with completing transaction as they seemed a bit dodge" or whatever?

No as in someone agreeing to a transaction then sending a pm saying they havent the funds and then buying something from another thread.
