Not to mention that each shop will pay different MSC for their credit card transactions. Independent retailers will pay a lot, chains will pay less and Dunnes/Tesco will pay almost nothing because of their volume.

All the more reason then, for the NTA to have set up a stand-alone marketing and top-up infrastructure for Leapcard.

All of the issues raised are very valid for those involved, but they needed to be ironed out between the NTA and Payzone BEFORE unleashing Leapcard on an unsuspecting Public ?

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

So... cap for a leap card adult (non-student) is 27.50e. (or 5 day rambler)
On Dublin Bus you pay 2.50e/trip. so if you only make 10 trips a week (in to and out of work/college) there isn't a package for you.
Still 55c/trip. 5.50e/week saving over cash prices.

    Sound right?

For people using the bus only, and making two trips longer than 13 stages per day there are options:

    • 30 Day Rambler ticket (non-consecutive days) - €137.50 or €4.58 per day - this ticket is available on LEAP

    • Monthly Travelwide ticket - €123 - if purchased under the taxsaver scheme (www.taxsaver.ie) the cost can be reduced by up to 52% depending on your tax rate

    • Annual Travelwide ticket - €1,230 - again if purchased under the taxsaver scheme the cost can be reduced by up to 52% depending on your tax rate
