Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

can this volcano keep billowing ash for years or what is the story
i know there is an even bigger vol that could start, that will bring everything to an even bigger standstill,
this will cause unease to anyone thinking of travelling
as it is the unknown, natural occurrence

No idea what this graph means and what the timeline is for the graphs but this is Iceland's met office prediction of the ash travel...Ireland looks fcuked http://metoffice.gov.uk/aviation/vaac/data/VAG_1272908173.png Looks like somebody drew a few random lines over a map of europe with MS Paint...

TBH, would Iceland ever fup off for once, we are getting sick and tired of your sh1t economy and crappy volcanos.

God damn it. Are Pavement in the country yet?

If this ash cloud ruins another gig for me I'm going to go to Iceland myself and there'll be words between me and this volcano. Words I tells ya!

Shiiiiiite. Flight of the Conchords have to get here on Wednesday too :(

Yeah, pretty much. If it's like the previous eruptions we could be looking at 2 or 3 years of disrupted flights over Europe with airports closing depending on which way the ash is blowing.

    From Ryanair site

POSSIBLE VOLCANO DISRUPTIONS IRELAND & UK 4 MAY 2010

Ryanair has been advised by the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) of possible disruptions and closures of some Irish and the UK airspace from 0600hrs on Tuesday 4th May. Ryanair expects some disruptions and cancellations, particularly to / from airports in the west of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland. As information is made available by the IAA during the evening of 3rd May and early morning 4th May, Ryanair will update intending passengers through the Ryanair.com website. All intending passengers flying with Ryanair on 4th May should check in online as normal.

But seriously, I saw no volcanic ash last time, even though at some points, it was supposed to have covered all of freaking Ireland!

Yeah, it was covered, but it was over a mile up in the air, and well spread out so we couldn't see it. If it had rained heavily at the time some of it would have come down.

Look the solution to this ash cloud is simple.
Run those wind farms in reverse and blow the ash back to the Icelanders.

Do I have to think of everything for you people ?

    Hi,

a friend of mine is due to get connecting flights from london to Dubai and onwards to India. these other flights look to be running fine tomorow, but she will miss them due to being grounded here in ireland..the ticket is an internet one booked through expedia. Does anyone know whether the rules of refund and/ or re-scheduling for later connecting flights apply?

Would appreciate any info on this cheers

It was the whole time, just not as much, lower and the wind was in a different direction. Now there is a lot of ash, higher up ( up to 20,000 feet) and the winds are blowing it towards us and scotland.

Thanks thetonynator but she has a lot of luggage etc. and the flight journey duration is something like 22 hrs, too much travelling.

my whole family are abroad right now, so concerned.
They say flights grounded because of the shift in wind, but its the same all week , so duno how long this will last

Er, what? Do you think they're making it up for fun? The ash reached as far as Kazakhstan last time. Of course you wouldn't see it, it is way too high up, it starts at around 20,000 feet so it's not a health hazard or anything either.

It's probably not going to affect planes that are travelling over Ireland because they would be travelling over it, but planes from Ireland can't reach that altitude without going through the ash so that's why they're being closed. Even though it's a bitch that flights are being cancelled, I would prefer that to being in a plane when the engine fails

Met Eireann are predicting more or less northerly winds with little or no precipitation. North easterly winds from Thursday should help clear this away but I think the winds are north again on Sat/Sun - thats at the limit of predictability so while there is a good chance the skies might be clear on Thursday/Friday there might be intermittent problems in the coming days.

Flying out on Thurs myself so very disappointing, like many I am not rich - being laid off at end of June but had booked this 3 months before I knew about that happening so a bit upsetting. Still, I checked with my hotel and airline and both are giving full refunds if my flight is cancelled so I can live with it.

Worth watching the Icelandic met service website for latest updates.
