I cannot get ANYONE to insure me

    Hello. I just have been issued with my provisional. I cannot seem to get any insurance company to qoute me because they all say I have to have at least one year no claims bonus. How on earth can I GET a one years claim bonus if nobody will insure me? its really stupid.

    I have never driven before so this is my first time insurance.

    Anybody got any insurance companies that will insure me as a person who as a provisional licence and is a first time insurance buyer?

    You should be able to get insurance so . Have you approached any brokers to look for you.

    So far I have approached Zurich, they won't even put me on to my wifes insurance.

    I approached one-direct and got the NO.

    123.ie are a big no also.

    I called Liberty insurance but they were like 300 euro a month for 6 months. That is WAY too expensive for me.

    When I was in your position i.e had just been given my learner permit the only place I got a reasonable quote for fully comp in my name from was insure.ie - might be worth a go.

    You're not going to find it cheap anywhere, just a search for the least ridiculous.

    There has to be something else at play here, learners get first time insurance all the time without much in the way of hassle.

    Try britton, they were good for my younger brother. He got insurance for around 1000, on a 2007 micra, no previous experience and a first time Learner Permit holder.

    When I was on my provisional in June, the only people to give me a semi-reasonable quote was Tesco. All the other quotes were €3000+.

    so you did find someone to insure you, you just don't want to pay it.

    get the phone book out, make a list of all the insurance companies and start dialing. you will be paying a lot of money
    • you are a new driver
    • you have an expensive car to insure
    • you have no driving experience

    There are ways to get a reduction in these charges, but it will never be cheap.
    I got quoted 7k a year last month for a car.
    Try firstireland.ie they have a scheme which gives you 20% discount if you have 10 lessons with an approved instructor.

    also ask your instructor, they will often know who gives good deals for new drivers.

    what age are you if you dont mind me asking if you are a young lad on a provisional with a car over 1.3 litres you should be expecting to pay 3000 or more, i had to pay 3500 for my first year driving on a 1.4 almera 03.. although that was 4 years ago.

    its just the way it is im afraid, did you apply for your driving test? do that straight away even if you find insurance because if you pass you will get some/alot of money back of the insurer. in a couple of years you will be paying peanuts if you keep a good no claims bonus.

    would you consider getting another car. Almeras all seem to be group 14 insurance, which wont really help your case.

    Try a smaller 1 litre, group 1,2,3,4 car its only for a year or so.

    I have the same problem. I went online looking for quotes and the only insurer who would offer me a quote was Axa. Also my friend advised me that Pat Britton in Donegal specialise in 1st time drivers and high risk people:

    Try tesco insurance, Im a learner, no experience and got my insurance for around 600, i pay 52 odd a month but my car is a lil Seicento. They're underwritten by RSA insurance Ireland ltd

    cos you let people with 0 driving experience drive your car, thereby raising the chances you will do damage to it. thats how insurance works, the more you need it the less likely they are to give it to you.

    Nope, my own private car. My school car is insured by....... RSA.

    Aviva did insure me but I paid €1200 for it.

    I've stayed with them since and now every year, my quote is cheaper than the rest.

    nononsense.ie perhaps? i-ve been shopping around and they have given me the cheapest quote by far,im just a little concerned as I remember hearing they are affiliated with ryanair so im wondering if I get charged extra for bringing my shopping home in the boot rather than as hand luggage on my lap or under the seat

    No nonsense is FBD actually, it is 123 you are talking about iirc.

    Try with "Asgard insurance" via insure.ie? I got a 1.4 Honda Civic insured on a provisional license when I was 28, for €1200. I'm a dude, if you're wondering.

    I can't get insured as a named driver on my g/f's car cos I'm an ADI. If I tell them I'm a civil engineer (my former job) I get quoted. It's bonkers. It's not as if we're teaching pupils in these cars. We're professional drivers FFS

    The funny bit is they have no problem insuring someone with no licence (learner permit i mean), and wouldn't quote person who is fully qualified to teach them how to drive and prepare to the test:rolleyes: How crazy is that???
    Remember someone working as a barman on here who couldn't get insurance due to his proffesion - amazing what insurance companies come up with sometimes...
