Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm sorry but the "still clubbing ourselves over the head" argument is missing the point. In terms of human physical attraction, it is biological. Men and women are hardwired to attract to certain things. I appreciate there is a huge element of nurture that follows the nature but the source of the behaviour will be biological.

Of course attraction is biological, but that tells us nothing about how attractive we might be to other people, so it's a pointless statememt. Men and women aren't magnets, but they can alter their physical appearance somewhat to make themselves more closely resemble the person that they think the object of their affections will be attracted to. If human beings were hard wired to find certain physical traits attractive, then that would make the whole thing easier. I could tell you I like Adele. Does that mean I'm hard wired to find fat girls attractive? No it doesn't, it just means I like Adele. I also like Mila Kunis.

Your hard-wired argument smacks of simplicity and gives no regard to the capacity of the human mind to appreciate diversity. It's akin to the argument that suggests that human beings are biologically programmed to reproduce, that we're hard wired to diversify out genetic material, that men with biggger balls are hard wired to spread their superior genetic material to propagate the human race.

It's, all, waffle. We're not neanderthal animals any more. We have evolved.

With regard to your last point, you inquired in an incredulous tone to a very simple statement. And got your response. So please dont try to be the adult after the rocking horse has bolted ;)

I was just surprised that again you failed to spot the irony of your assertion that most girls you are friends with can spot the ass kissing friendzone dwellers a mile off. You appear to have slipped under their radar.

Probably true. How do you slip under their radar??

Depends entirely on the context and the people involved SE. Some women do respond better to a certain level of take it or leave it.

Plus I would say that for a few guys out there not treating "them" mean means gushing over women, just because they're women. IMHO the latter is sexist in the extreme. It's treating women as different, just because they happen to have a vagina and the guy wants access to that. In some ways the self proclaimed "nice guy" is a liar and a chancer. He's fronting an idea of "nice" and harmless(hardly a vibe to rouse the blood), while looking for more. "I want to be your frrrieeeeend, why don't you want to shag me" BS. At least the prickish "bad boy" player type is honest about what he wants. If as a woman you have such "friends" around you and you know they want more, a prick who is direct can be a breath of fresh air because of his honesty*. At least you know where you stand. With the let's just be friends men you don't. There's an ulterior motive going on. And that IMHO is why a fair few ladies go for the bad boy, it's not because he treats her badly, it's more because he's more honest and she knows where she stands.

    My 2 cents anyway.

*and the I must tame him vibe.

A great depiction of the prick vs the nice guy is in the film "in the company of men". Aaron Eckhardt's psychopath has no problem seducing women whereas the niceguy character has no luck (but a scene towards the end reveals he's an unpleasant character in a different way).
Great film that looks at this among other things.

So basically a guy is a creep if he does that?

Its hard to know about the 'nice guys' these days. Tinder well that says it all! bleugh not my thing.

Honestly Ed? Only if you are equally hard of heart and willy and can pump and dump. You're not. You're an actual nice bloke and would get sucked in. And no, not in a good way you bloody perve. :D

It does to some degree. Some people are more attractive to a greater range of people than others. They cast a wider net.
If human beings were hard wired to find certain physical traits attractive, then that would make the whole thing easier. I could tell you I like Adele. Does that mean I'm hard wired to find fat girls attractive? No it doesn't, it just means I like Adele. I also like Mila Kunis.
One could argue there are gender differences here. The female ideal of physical beauty is highly variable over time and culture and can change equally rapidly. Miss World of say 1950 wouldn't get past local heats in the competition today(and vice versa). Whereas the male ideal of physical beauty is remarkably consistent. A 3000 year old ancient Greek male statue made flesh walking out of the surf like Jimmy Bond would rev female engines as much as Daniel Craig. Men's tastes vary more than women's as a general rule. Look at porn(that's an order! for research purposes :D). High fashion, Cosmo and Vogue are remarkably out of whack(no pun) with what men choose to look at and what turns them on. Fat women are big(sorry) in porn. It's a whole genre(BBW). Tall skinny waif like fashion model porn doesn't. MILFs and mature, all the way up to grannies is another popular genre. You will find a greater range of "real" women in porn than you ever will in "real women" campaigns of cynical advertisers. If a woman ever felt bad about her self image I would suggest she looks at porn and I'll guarantee she'll find her doppleganger in there, maybe a whole genre dedicated to her.

On the other hand when women look at porn do they search for fat/old/scrawny men? Do romance novels and other media show these kinds of men? Rarely enough.

There are some hardwired female attraction traits though, traits that share cultures and times. Hip waist ratio for one. The Venus de Milo, Kate Moss, Marilyn Monroe and the nudes of Degas et al share the same ratio. Even the massively corpulent late paleolithic Venus's share this ratio. When men do that Sid James stylee mime of women's shape in the air, that's the ratio. Both Adele and Mila while slightly outside it and of massively different sizes aren't too far off it. Clear soft wrinkle free skin another one. Lustrous hair. Larger lips and forehead, smaller jaw, large eyes. All are indicators of fertility in women and both Mila and Adele have these features.
It's akin to the argument that suggests that human beings are biologically programmed to reproduce, that we're hard wired to diversify out genetic material,
We kinda are. You are the end result of it and men and women that didn't died out(interestingly far more male lines died out over time. A smaller pool of men reproduced with a much larger pool of women).
that men with biggger balls are hard wired to spread their superior genetic material to propagate the human race.
Going by the other great apes it seems human males lay somewhere in the middle. They don't have harems by default, neither are they lifetime monogamous, nor are they constantly promiscuous. More like serial pair bonding monogamy for long enough to raise kids to toddler age. That of course is incredibly simplistic as culture and intelligence brings very big guns to bear on our mating strategies. The most we can say about humans is we are incredibly reproductively diverse and adaptable depending on environment.
It's, all, waffle. We're not neanderthal animals any more. We have evolved.
We have, but the early programming didn't get altogether thrown out. BTW it seems Neandertals were monogamous and had birth rates and intervals similar to ourselves. Living in isolated small family groups with one or two couples. We were and are more gregarious and lived in bigger groups that were more socially fluid. So a Neandertal lady would be a good bet for fidelity and childbearing, but death by snu snu would be a real danger*:pac:

*they didn't have the hip waist ratio of us either. May explain why the gene flow seems to have gone from Neandertal dudes to modern human dudesses. Hey Ug that Neandertal bastard is lookin at me bird! Eh, I'd let him Og, I'd let him...:D

Unfortunately we all started off hairy going back to zillions of years ago. Girls are the stronger one in the finish line its a lot harder to produce boys when it comes to babies. All babies start off as girls, hormones determine if it be a girl or boy other than which one made it depending on its chromosome but yes physical attraction = ..../baby or no baby, yes men spread their genes more likely than a woman would.

Biology has a lot to answer to/for how we evolved and how people have their happy ending. Romance I think has died.

After no luck whatsoever with online dating i've taken it upon myself to approach a few girls in public settings. Will report back. :D
Fair play SS. Women are everywhere. Mad idea I know. :) You may get a few knockbacks as it may be a bit strange to some, but unlike the pub/bar scene where people are usually pissed and women too often get approached by an assortment of mongs, pests and drunken weirdos(and are naturally wary)*, at least in the daytime just going about your day that pressure isn't there. Have a bit of craic and contrary to some perceptions, people(and that includes women! W. T. F.:eek:) are sociable and like a bit of banter and like the compliment that interest pays. A genuine hello and how are you that goes beyond the rehearsed small talk will lift a persons day.

*my record on here will show I'm no whinging "Ireland is shíte" type, but I have noticed that drunken blokes and drunken defensive blokesses is a lot worse here(UK is pretty similar).

I'd suggest approaching from behind, quietly and downwind, if you spook them too soon you'll never get them into the van without causing a scene.:D
