Wow - really tense last 2 episodes. I only intended to watch the first but it was impossible to leave it!
It wrapped up well and though it was awful, I'm glad they didn't pull punches and August died.

Pleased to hear there'll be a second series.

And no resolution on the Charlotte wig issue. :(

No resolution about that side of the story at all e.g. I was expecting there to be some kind of blowback from the way her husband's heart transplant was arranged back in Ep.1. All that setup, just so that we could see Martin sleeping with her? I thought the story took a disappointing moralistic turn:
all those people killed, all that drama, just because Martin has a wandering eye?

Death has this much to be said for it:
You don’t have to get out of bed for it.
    Wherever you happen to be
    They bring it to you—free.

You could try Borgen, based around Danish politics but in a similar vein.

The same director has a show called Murder on BBC 2 tomorrow (Sunday 26th) at 10pm.

It's just the one episode and it's based in England.

    Could be worth a watch!

Just finsihed watching this, it built to a very tense ending, had to keep going till I finished. I didn't like it starting off, found the character of Sara very off puting but gradually warmed to her. Very well acted and scripted, not sure I quite understood the motives of the killer, he went a very long way round things.

Interesting to see where it goes in series 2

Adored Season 1 of The Bridge and can't wait for the next season. I think you might like Borgen. By chance, I watched it for the first time last Saturday (one of the BBC channels). Even though I had missed Season 1, I was quickly hooked. It's described as The Killing meets The West Wing.

So, it would appear this being remade in the US - US/Mexico, and the UK - UK and France...two to choose from. Guess the original might be back by the time one of them airs.

Just finished watching the first season.
    Thought it was excellent.

my 2 cent on the wig was
simply that she wore the wig for her husband who may have preferred her as a blond but as soon as she was let down by him, she took it off to feel more like herself again, dont think it was a major point just a small side step to add more to the character

Saga was a brilliant character and she is played so well and laughed at so many of her lines. will await season 2.

A second series of The Bridge is expected to air later this year, with detectives Martin Rohde and Saga Norén reunited after an apparently empty ship rams the Øresund Bridge and the pair must collaborate once more.

Saw a trailer for the tunnel which will be on Sky Atlantic, similar to the Bridge but the murder is in the Channel Tunnel.

I wonder how closely to the Bridge will it be.

Started watching the US version but stopped after a while because the plot was pretty much a direct copy of The Bridge. Hopefully this doesn't happen with The Tunnel, judging by the series description though it'll be pretty similar.. I'd kinda understand if the Bridge wasn't already shown on BBC but maybe Sky will bring in viewers who haven't seen it..

There are 3 more episodes in the current series of Inspector Montalbano to come first anyway.

TG4 have not yet given a broadcast date for their showing of the first series.

    2.01, 2.02

Saga's directness still infuses proceedings. I loved how her meeting again with Martin began with a smile, and yes, I noticed his hair, too! His emotional scars weigh heavily, particularly as he's trying to ditch his support system, but I think the relationship with Saga, bumps and all, will keep him grounded, mostly.

Not sure what's up with sailing boat maths test girl? Wonder if the anarchists (Anonymous given the video style) are on their own (everyone in the episode was answerable to someone be it the police or bully), or if someone's funding them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,950 ✭✭✭dixiefly

Enjoyed it again. Interesting that they are allowing us seethe perpetrators from early on, it will be interesting to see if there is another movement or backer behind them.

That girl was the girl sailing when the ship ran aground early on and her father had the video footage of the dinghy, I think.

A few eerie bits, the smile from Jens was chilling. Last series I actually figured it was him shortly after his introduction. I just that there was some focus on him without any real link.

I think there is someone behind the terrorists, if I remember correctly Niklas asked the group if they had been instructed to carry out their latest attack.

Great return to the show, it really flew by. Love Saga trying to be normal, her laugh is hilarious. Great character development with Martin as well, he has often played second fiddle to Saga but his character's journey over the season should be really interesting. His sobbing in the car really highlighted how far away he is from being at peace.

The fact we know the perpetrators already is in an interesting approach, but as I have stated above I believe there is someone else behind it. Will be interesting to see how the girl and her father are involved in the story.

All in all, a great return to the series. I thought it might struggle with dealing with the aftermath of August's death but they have done a great job of setting up the season.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,286 ✭✭✭seligehgit

Forgotten just how good Broen is,true tour de force.

Saga and Martin's relationship is well written and acted.Saga's Asperger's like personality is brilliant, her attempts to act normal are hilarious. As in season 1 she has no great interest in doing anything with her current boyfriend except having sex.

One suspects that behind the anti globalisation motives of the group as always hide a more deeply personal agenda.

Watched entire first series and first 2 parts of second series over 2 days. Fantastic, didn't like the ending of series one much, just seemed a bit silly on the bridge, but otherwise, loved every minute. Haven't seen US or UK remake, does it have as many negative outcomes as the original I wonder. The getting there in the nick of time stuff in Sweden/Denmark version didn't happen very often.

Actually only other gripe I have with first series was subtitling. Big long swathes of conversation would be completely ignored, like they couldn't be arsed writing it all. This series seems better from that pov.

That might depend on where you got the subtitles from. The BBC broadcast version has very good english subtitles.

    2.03, 2.04

Pretty good - kept things progressing. A little deeper into the anarchist rabbit hole, but not really. Kids always find out the worst way, now Linus is completely alone. They can lay on Saga's mannerisms a little heavily at times, essentially in every scene where she's not in police mode (handy autospy skills, btw), but at least her boyfriend had a Who t-shirt, plus the lift banter around Martin's relationship advice was fun. Laura always had a target on her back. Sometimes I get confused about who at police HQ is Swedish or Danish. The guy who got pepper sprayed - he's from..? I liked Martin's meetings with Jens, both brief, but effective and I liked how he seemed to flip things a little in the second one.

    Breast implants? Really?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,286 ✭✭✭seligehgit

Definite overkill on Saga's robotic like personality although it was quite touching when she comforted Linus after reassuring him he was'nt responsible for Niklas's death.
Have no idea how Saga's boyfriend puts up with her,the sex must be red hot because she fails to connect with him on any kind of an emotional level.
Main storyline is pottering along, not entirely riveting.I wish Martin would get back together with Mette, appears he does'nt want to jeopardise any reunion by getting involved with his work colleague.
Some birthday present...the breast implants. It might be every girls dream in California, not so sure an attractive young Danish wife wishing to be gifted same by her crass husband!

Agree about previous comment, I found it very touching when Linus hugged Saga, is that the last we will see of him I wonder, seemed to put a lot of effort into his backstory with the w*nkers at his school.

More than happy with how the story is moving along, its great television.

Off topic but there is an excellent Welsh police drama on BBC Wales (for anyone who can get it on satellite or Iplayer) called Hinterland. It is definitely aiming for the Scandinavian type feel, with some seriously lovely views of Aberystwyth, they are one off stories so although last week was first one, easy enough to get the who's who. In English and Welsh. On tonight from 9pm.

Back on Topic. Link to Guardian blog didn't work from previous post, here's blog for episodes 3 and 4

    2.05, 2.06

Stunning shots of the bridge/winter landscape. Laura being up and about was a little far fetched perhaps, elements of the show are. Someone was bound to call Saga out on her persona and style, shows she can get hurt. Mostly, though, I liked the scenes getting to see her more human side, e.g., the awkwardness when Martin thanked her for saving his son. Well done. His personal life is certainly being tested. A pretty high wire routine with Jens. The mother in law scene was priceless, as were a few others such as with the nanny and discussion on kids. Didn't suspect she was up to something, but have heard the Munchausen by proxy thing before.

A lot of dead weight to this series so far. There is something to the breast implants, then? Only one scene seemed poorly light, green screen or something - where the dying woman was talking to the guy who told her to shove it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,286 ✭✭✭seligehgit

Another 2 hours of utterly absorbing television, nothing can compete with Broen at the moment.Found it a tad unrealistic Laura jumping out of her hospital bed to revisit the crime scene at Malmo stadium.
As usual the Saga Martin interaction stole the show.No surprise Rasmus called her out after she said she was going to report him to internal affairs in spite of his good work. Her admission to Martin in the lift that people don't realise she can be hurt was'nt a great surprise and may explain somewhat her lack of emotional openness.Rasmus's claim that she was'nt fit to be a police officer was'nt possibly the first time that she was hurt.
Her inability to engage in appropriate conversations was highlighted in her response to Martin's hopes of a reunion with Mette, the reunion been part of a statistic that is likely to be doomed to failure. Not what you want to hear, she just does'nt get it.Ditto the hilarious exchange re the size of the prostitute's penis, hilarious.Martin was petrified that she was going to ask for his measurements.
The whole scene with Jakob's mother continued this theme re her personality as she did'nt get why understandably he might'nt want to have sex with his mother literally a hair's breath away.Found her masturbation scene a tad off putting as did Jakob, she really is sex mad.
Her oddity/Asperger's like personality was highlighted by her staying in the hotel for a few nights to get some me time.
Found it hard to credit how she diagnosed the Munchausen by proxy from the cursory time she spent at Mette's house.Nothing really stood out in terms of Anna Dea,unless of course it bears some relationship to her 14 year old sister who commited suicide.Martin certainly thinks so,Pernille will turn up the file.Saga's parents possibly were the culprits leading to the girl taking her own life?
Thought Martin wanted for a brief moment to kiss Saga at the bridge and she made her excuses to head back to the car.I'm sure they won't ruin their relationship by getting involved.Martin appears to be closer to getting his family back although he's always prone to drop the ball.Continuing to give Pernille a lift home might still prove too great a temptation.
I did'nt like the concept of Martin giving Jens the case even if it is a fruitful excercise, hardly appropriate even if this convicted murder is an ex cop.Strange sort of therapy.Saga's taking down of the animal right's protestors was hardly credible?
Julian Madsen's death by IV administration of some drug seems to be part of some macabre drug experimentation. Is Caprax the responsible drug?It took him over one hour to die when compared with the others. Why does our dying Viktoria want access to this drug/company?
There are so many possible culprits and motives.Bodil's having an affair with Caroline's awful husband Alexander, what was the deceased Claudio's involvement in the eco terrorists? Why is Viktoria's brother so anxious that the book gets published? Is Laura's dad in the clear and was Marcus Sternberg aware that dead bodies were on board these smuggling ships?

Tad too obvious, think it might be the brother?I am wondering is she dying of breast cancer or from something relating to a dodgy breast implant with industrial type silicon?

The Bridge from FX with Diane Kruger and Demián Bichir? Yeah, it's pretty solid. They seemed to retain the core elements from the original version whilst still making it their own and focused on the dynamics of the border, etc. They made a better fist of it than AMC with The Killing remake, imo.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

Fantastic 2 episodes again. Anna Dea maybe gave it away when she was so protective of "his" drink when Martin's daughter wanted a drink. Why would one glass of juice be specifically for one person when she has a jug of the same stuff on the tray. Saga watched this happen, coupled with Anna Dea's high opinion of her importance to the family, it was great detective work as ever. Is that it for Laura now? Presumably whoever shot her will have another go at killing her. Copycat stuff was a bit tacked on and still not overly convinced by Martins prison visits but loved everything else. Goodness knows whats going on with the breast implants. Roll on next weekend.

Season 3 is being written, first 2 episodes already done, but suppose that might mean a decent wait for it to be filmed. Hopefully the subtitled release will coincide with the local release!

Article about Season 3 here (might contain season 2 spoilers): http://ekstrabladet.dk/flash/filmogtv/tv/article2158771.ece , but to be honest I didn't read too much of it in case there are spoilers.

:( My face when Saga said "no one thinks they can hurt her"

 My face when she starts her bedroom antics

Another great two episodes, it really does fly by. The humanising of Jens is interesting to watch, I do feel like it won't all go Martin's way. The adventures of Rasmus the bumbling detective continue, I wonder if he will finally prove himself to Saga.

It is looking too obvious that the dying woman is behind it all, however she does make sense so it will not be the worst storyline if it ends up with her as the murderer.
