Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Depressingly huge swathes of excellent films expiring on the US Netflix over the next two weeks or so. Bad Lieutenant (Ferrea original), The Son (Dardenne bros.), Days of Heaven (good ol' Terence Malick), Broadway Danny Rose (Woody Allen), Kagemushua, Noriko's Dinner Table, Memento, The Hustler, Peeping Tom, Videodrome, Broadway Danny Rose, The Chaser, My Winnipeg / The Saddest Music in the World, The Excorcist, Ghostbusters...

I could go on, but you're better just looking at the expiry list on instantwatcher for yourself and crying at the loss of so many worthy additions. Get watching! Might be your last opportunity to watch S. Darko or The Avengers (Uma Thurman version) for free.

Seen the excellent cinema version of Woody Allen: A Documentary in the Screen last week, I noticed they have the 2 part tv version (an hour longer) on Flix US now, well worth a look, lots of his hilarious standup/tv appearances from the 60s/70s that I hadn't seen before and of course great clips from his best movies.

Pay no real attention to the expiring soon list, more often than not the films will reappear a few weeks later.

Sadly the Bad Lieutenant that's on Netflix is the cut version and not the NC17 cut.

Thats true, Apocalypse Now (both versions) disappeared then reappeared soon after, wonder if they do this so they appear as new releases :D.

I think it's more to do with licensing than anything else. Some of the Starz stuff which disappeared when the deal expired has reappeared minus the Starz logo on it.

Sherlock, updated adapation of Sherlock Holmes with Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes, way better than the RDJ movies.

Maybe my rum diary suggestion didn't go down to well :-P but I watched gasland and thought it was a great documentary, I'm waiting for criticism:-P

watched The Trip last night. The story is about Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon (who play themselves) and take a trip to the North of England for a few days. They visit nice resteraunts, try out do each other with various impressions and generally embark on various bouts of oneupmanship. it's quite funny in parts but also quite poignant in others. I haven't described it well but its worth a look

Thats an edited down version of whats actually a 6 episode sitcom! Directed by Michael Winterbottom too.

I see Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil has been added to Netflix Ireland now too.

I watched Teeth, its about a girl who lives with her remarried sick mother. She takes a vow of abstinance even though in love with a fellow classmate, its a touching story.

Oh yeah she also develops teeth in her vagina.

Well ridiculous as it sounds, its actually quite a poignant movie and the development of the main character is seamless. Though lads will be watch it with your hand protectively over you penis.

Surprisingly good movie. Kind of reminded me of a weird super hero origin story. Well worth a watch.

Transformers Dark Of The Moon is now up on the US one.

    don't all rush at once.

Does anyone know what happened to the website that listed all the new content for the UK and Ireland selection (as well as a complete A - Z)? It used to be this: http://www.pcgamer.name/netflix.htm but it seems to be gone now. I do remember seeing a message on the page saying it would be expiring soon but there was no word on a new URL (unless I missed it?).

I watched Splinter last night - a surprisingly decent monster/plague type horror flick. It's not world-changing, but it's well-paced and decently made, while maintaining tension better than the higher-selling guff like Woman In Black. It's like Cabin Fever only without the black humour.

'Ed Wood' starring Johnny Depp is well worth watching.

Some nice additions on US Flix today, some I'd recommend: 12 Monkeys, The Agony and the Ecstasy, Boyz N the Hood, Cameraman: The Life and Work of Jack Cardiff, Don't Look Now, Donnie Brasco, Eight Men Out, In the Mood for Love, Internal Affairs, K-19: The Widowmaker,
Love and Death, Once Upon a Time in the West, Radio Days, Raising Arizona, Reds, Sleeper, Syriana.

    Anybody watching Prison Break?

I've just gotten to the second episode of season 4 and the whole series has been ruined for me one episode into it.

Just watched The Devils Double, brilliant stuff.

theres a bunch of early Jackie Chan stuff on the US one like Meals On Wheels, Armour of God and My Lucky Stars, the plots and acting are atrocious but the stunts and fight choregraphy are superb to this day. If you've only seen Jackie Chan post-Rush Hour then they're worth watching to see him in his prime, especially in his various fights with Benny "The Jet" Urquidez (the other assassin John Cusack has the scrap in the school hall with in Grosse Pointe Blank, who was Cusacks real life martial arts teacher and an absolute badass)

the dubbing is hilariously bad in this clip but the fight is spectacular, that bit when Benny blows out the candles at 1.20 with a kick was done for real.

^^Sammo Hung is a legend too, sure can move for a fat guy! Used to love armour of the gods, isn't there a sequel called Operation Condor or something?

Never realised that was the guy from Gross Pointe Blank

Season 3 was definitely the best! Mahone is probably my favourite from it.

Season 4 kinda discredits Season 3 and you'll see why when you come to it D:

The Killing season one - the glorious Danish original - is on Irish Netflix. Might have been there a while, but I only noticed. Do not accept inferior imitators! Lund FTW!

Also: Entourage is a HBO show so you won't be seeing that anytime soon.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,009 ✭✭✭kronsington

watched "im still here" on us netflix

its a "documentary" about joaquin phoenix's retirement from acting and transition to hip hop superstar directed by casey affleck. there was a lot of buzz about it when it came out a few years ago. check it out

HBO have their own on demand service called HBO GO and are naturally using it to gain more subscribers, if they let netflix in on some of their catalogue it would potentially lose them subscribers so unfortunately it's highly unlikely we'll ever see HBO shows on Netflix. They have even stopped supplying them DVD boxsets of their shows for the US customers on the DVD package (although they can get around this by sourcing the DVD's from a third party after they go on general release but it shows just how much of a threat they consider netflix).

if youre a fan of southpark, "the making of southpark: 6 days to air" was just added to US Netflix. interesting to view the controlled chaos behind the scenes of the show.

anyone have any other recommendations for either uk or us? browsed last night and could find nothing to tickle my fancy

Loved that doc. Showed how close they really cut it :pac:

For a quick watch on the US one, and if you havent seen it (shame on you and until recently shame on me) give Dr. Horribles Sing-Along Blog a watch.

i noticed a couple of noteworthy ones under the heading "Showbiz Movies"

This is Spinal Tap- I'd say everyone on this forum has seen this or at least heard of this. Inspiration for the Office, Curb and loads others. Must see

Outfoxed: Murdochs War on Journalism- havent watched but looks interesting

The Nines- very hard to describe- but clever and ambitious border line sci-fi flick with dreamboat Ryan Reynolds

National Geographic- The Lord of the Rings- a look at the world that inspired the movies

Grizzly Man- Werner Herzog directed doc following the tale of a man who went to live amongst grizzly bears

Adaptation- outstanding performance from Nicolas Cage, Spike Jonze directs

54- decent enough flick about the infamous New York nightclub 54- mike myers, ryan phillips star

    some good ones there!
