    Title: Impractical Jokers (american Version)

    Cast: Brian "Q" Quinn
    James "Murr" Murray
    Joseph "Joe" Gatto
    Salvatore "Sal" Vulcano

    Genre: Comedy

Description:The show differs from other prank television programs in that the stars of Impractical Jokers do not know the details of the prank until the moment they are performing it on strangers. While one cast-member performs the prank, the other three comedians in the troupe are behind the scenes feeding lines to their friend via microphone (with an earpiece). Banshee_promotional_poster.jpg

    Title: Banshee

Cast: Antony Starr, Ivana Miličević, Ulrich Thomsen, Frankie Faison, Hoon Lee

    Genre: Action, crime, thriller, black-comedy

Description: A nameless criminal (Starr) is released from prison after serving 15 years. Being chased by his former employer, a Ukrainian gangster named Rabbit, the criminal arrives into the town of Banshee, Pennsylvania. While there, he witnesses and intervenes in a bar brawl and gunfight that leaves three men dead. One of them being the new sheriff of Banshee, Lucas Hood. The criminal assumes Hood's identity... and all manner of hell breaks loose.

Violent and full of sex and profanity, this is not for the faint of heart. But it is a brilliant, pulpy piece of television. The fight scenes are excellent and the plot moves along at breakneck pace as "Hood" struggles to contain his former employers, the local crime kingpin, his own deputies, the uppity locals, the FBI and, of course, the ex-girlfriend who he still holds a torch for. In between all the violence, "Hood" succeeds in bedding nearly every girl in Banshee, including the so-called "chaste" Amish girls.

Deep, this ain't. Fun, breathtaking and addictive, it is.

Watch this if you like: Justified, Breaking Bad, No Country For Old Men, Blood Simple... violent crime thrillers, basically.

Surprised to see this one not mentioned, is probably my favourite all time series behind The Wire & Breaking Bad. Will have you hooked after one episode.

    Title: The Newsroom
Cast: Jeff Daniels, Margaret Judson, Emily Mortimer, Dev Patel
    Genre: Drama
Description: A news team attempts to create a news show that reports the news in an ethical and reasonable way. They take real, newsworthy events from our world as they're happening (such as bin Laden's assassination, NSA spying, etc) and report on them as if they were an actual news station that followed rational and moral guidelines, in a biting criticism of our popular press and a clever blurring of art and reality.

    Generation_War_2013_poster.jpg

    Title: Generation War

Cast: Volker Bruch, Tom Schilling, Katharina Schuttler, Miriam Stein, Ludwig Trepte

    Genre: War, Drama, TV-Miniseries

Description: The series tells the story of five German friends, aged around 20, on their different paths through Nazi Germany and World War II: As Wehrmacht soldiers on the Eastern Front, war nurse, aspiring singer, and Jewish tailor respectively. The narrative spans over five years starting in 1941 Berlin, when the friends meet up for a last time before embarking on their journeys, enthusiastically vowing to meet up again the following Christmas. The story's conclusion is set in a time shortly after the end of the war in 1945/46.

One of the best representations of the savage fighting that took place on the Eastern Front as Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia squared off. The German version of Band Of Brothers, essentially. And it comes very close to being as good.

A brilliant mini-series, but a controversial one, as it garnered a lot of criticism for showing German soldiers of WWII in a semi-heroic light.

    Title: Narcos

Cast: Wagner Moura, Maurice Compte, Boyd Holbrook

    Genre: Crime/Drama/Thriller

Description: Netflix takes on the infamous Medellín drug cartel in "Narcos," which follows the rise and fall of Colombian kingpin Pablo Escobar and the Drug Enforcement Agency agents hunting him. The story is told largely from the points of view of Escobar, played by Brazilian actor Wagner Moura, and U.S. DEA Agent Steve Murphy (Boyd Holbrook), on opposite sides of what would become an all-out war. The gritty drama begins with the early days of the drug battle, when the biggest offenders were "hippies in flip-flops" caught with up to a kilo of marijuana, continuing to the violent, bloody battles between members of the cartel peddling tons of kilos of cocaine and drug agents from Colombia, Mexico, and the U.S. -- a struggle estimated to have cost at least 4,000 lives over two decades. Pedro Pascal ("Game of Thrones") co-stars as Mexican DEA Agent Javier Peña.

If you liked the C4 series Black Mirror, there's a Canadian series from 2013 called Darknet that has a similar feel, in that technology is a central theme. In the case of this series, the stories are linked by a mysterious website called Darknet, or the Darknet Files. It's shorter, though, with each episode coming in at 25 minutes and an episode can contain several stories. Quite dense for its runtime, but this is nice if you fancy a scare fix but don't want to make the time commitment to a feature or one-hour format. I'm only one episode in at the time of writing this, but it's looking promising so far. Something to dip into, anyway, and something that would seem to have slipped under the radar a little bit, judging from the number of IMDB votes.

A couple of recent BBC crime dramas that I really enjoyed.

Thirteen is about a girl who was kidnapped as a 13 year old child and escaped 13 years later. Nice short 5 episode series and a great performance from the lead.

New Blood is a show about 2 young guys, one a cop and one working for the serious fraud office. Three different cases told over 7 episodes and very enjoyable. The two guys have a good chemistry, and there are some good villains in it too.

Check out the first of each and see what you think. Trailers:
