    Title:Take Me Out (Ireland edition)
    Cast: Presented Ray Foley
    Genre: Dating Show
One single man has to try to impress thirty single women. Each woman has a (white) light which she can turn off (red) if she is unimpressed by the man. His aim is to convince as many women as possible to keep their lights on so that he can then pick, from the women remaining, the one that he wishes to take on a date. If there is one woman left, the man and woman will go on a date. If no lights are left on - what is referred to as a "blackout" - then the man must leave the show without a date. The game starts when the single man emerges from behind a door while his chosen song is played in the background. This is followed by a short introduction to himself by the man, then a video of the man's background. In the third round, the single man attempts to show off an ability he has in order to impress the women. After these rounds, if there are more than two women left with their lights on, the single man must turn off the lights of those remaining until he is left with two. He must then ask a question to both women, after which he decides which one he would like to take on a date.

    IMDB rating: 8.4

Taken from a review from IMDB:
"I watched about ten minutes of each of a couple of series 1 Farscape episodes and hated it. Cliched plots, characters blatantly lifted from other shows, and *muppets*. Might as well watch the Phantom Menace.

However, after persistent nagging from a hooked friend, I gritted my teeth, sat down and actually watched a whole show. Oh wow. Oh WOW

Farscape isn't a plot show, it's not a gadget show, it's not even an effects show. It's primarily a character show, and it's a great one, aimed squarely at adults

He is approached by Harold Finch (Michael Emerson), a reclusive billionaire computer genius who is living under an assumedidentity. Finch explains that after 9/11, he built a computer system for the government which uses information gleaned from omnipresent surveillance to predict future terrorist attacks. Finch discovers that the computer was predicting ordinary crimes as well. While the government was not interested in these results, Finch is determined to find a way to stop the predicted crimes. He hires Reese to conduct surveillance and intervene as needed, using his repertoire of skills gained in the military and CIA. Through a back door built into the system, Finch receives a social security number for someone who will be involved in an imminent crime, at which time he contacts Reese. Without knowing what the crime will be, when it will occur, or even if the person they're after is a victim or perpetrator, Reese and Finch must try to stop the crime from occurring. They are helped by NYPD Detectives Lionel Fusco (Kevin Chapman), a corrupt cop whom Reese coerces into helping them, and Joss Carter (Taraji P. Henson) who had originally been investigating Reese for his vigilante activities. Although Carter and Fusco are partners in the NYPD, for a time, neither was aware that the other is working with Finch and Reese.

It chronicles Angela Chase as she tries to deal with growing up, appearances, old friends and new ones, family, love, and what it meant to be your average teenager, as well as tackling important social and political issues. It also feautured a rocking soundtrack

    Title: American Gothic
Cast: Gary Cole, Lucas Black, Nick Searcy
    Genre: Drama/Horror/Thriller

Description: I'll just copypasta this from wikipedia.
The story takes place in the fictional town of Trinity, South Carolina, and revolves around Caleb Temple (Lucas Black) and the town's corrupt sheriff, Lucas Buck (Gary Cole). Though appearing affable and charismatic, Sheriff Buck is a murderous rapist whose powerbase is backed by apparent supernatural powers, which he generally uses to manipulate people to "fulfill their potential" and make life-changing choices (usually for evil).
Caleb Temple is a normal child whose paternity masks a horrific secret: Lucas Buck is his biological father, having raped his mother in front of Caleb's older sister Merlyn (Sarah Paulson). The horror of watching her mother being sexually assaulted caused Merlyn to become severely emotionally traumatized and withdrawn from the rest of the world, made even worse when her mother committed suicide after giving birth to Caleb.
During the pilot episode of the series, Sheriff Buck murders Merlyn in cold blood and manipulates Caleb's "father" (Sonny Shroyer) into committing suicide in order to eliminate Caleb's family and claim his biological son for his own. However, the newly arrived Dr. Crower (Jake Weber) begins to uncover the sheriff's role in the death of Merlyn and Merlyn's father and with help from Caleb's out-of-town cousin Gail Emory (Paige Turco), struggle to prevent Lucas from corrupting young Caleb. They are aided in part by Merlyn's ghost, who personally appears before Caleb throughout the series in order to try to keep him from Buck's corrupt grasp.

It only got one season, I remember watching it when i was a child and liking it quite a bit. Been watching it again this week and I'm loving it. So many times you watch a show you loved back in the 90's and it's just... weak but American Gothic is a strong, clever show that gets darker than I thought it would, remembering so little about it.

Im wondering what the hell my parents were doing letting me watch it tbh.

Cool new show, Vikings , just been aired in the States is a History channel production is really well done. Its filmed in Ireland with Gabriel Byrne in a lead role. Perfect viewing till Game of Thrones returns :)

Vikings follows the adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok the greatest hero of his age. The series tells the sagas of Ragnar's band of Viking brothers and his family, as he rises to become King of the Viking tribes. As well as being a fearless warrior, Ragnar embodies the Norse traditions of devotion to the gods, legend has it that he was a direct descendant of Odin, the god of war and warriors.

Title: The Quatermass Experiment / Quatermass II / Quatermass and The Pit

Cast: Reginald Tate, Isabel Dean, Hugh Kelly, Paul Whitsun-Jones.

Description: There are some shows that change everything.
Quatermass is one of them. It's influence and legacy are still visible in many
    "original" TV shows today.

Only the first 2 episodes of the Quatermass Experiment survived.
The seques Quatermass II and my favourite, Quatermass and The Pit are
    complete series.

In the first installment, British rocket scientist, Professor Bernard Quatermass must
stop an alien attack after a space flight goes terribly wrong.

Later in Quatermass II, our hero must again lead the resistance against a worldwide
    alien conspiracy.

Finally in Quatermass and The Pit, a mysterious object is uncovered in
at an archaeological dig in London. It's intent and purpose may answer
questions fundamental to our existence, if insanity does not first overcome all
who come in contact with it.

This series was broadcast at the height of the Cold War in the 1950s.
Communist advances into space meant that invasion by a technically
superior and malevolent force was increasingly probable.

Routine space travel seemed very possible. No-one fully understood the
effect space would have on humans, or if there was life on other planets
in our solar system. If there was would this life be peaceful? Or would
they seek to destroy us and seize our home planet?

But one of the most interesting facts about this series was that they were transmitted live.
It's an alien concept to many of us, but this show went out live on TV every
Saturday. No second takes, complex sets or fixing shots in the edit, just plain old-fashioned
storytelling and quality acting on a creaky stage. This and many other fine
television programmes were the work of Nigel Kneale, a very talented and inventive writer.

The pictured DVD box set, which I have, features a 48 page booklet
that comprehensively details the background of the show's production and reception.

Quatermass and The Pit was included in the British Film Institute's
top 100 TV shows of all time.

There have been sequels and remakes, (which are on my list of shows to watch)
but this remains an original and fantastic series.

Seasons: 1 incomplete first season of 2 episodes.
2 complete Series of 6 episodes per series at 30 to 35 minutes per episode.
    Network: BBC 1953 - 1959

Watched this on foot of a recommendation earlier in this thread. Just finished watching it today and I can't speak highly enough of it.

Brilliant acting and action packed from the very first episode. This show is a must-see for anyone who enjoyed the wire.
