So went to the bank (AIB) today cos i needed a few euro to post an item.. put card in .. & theres no €10 option.. i had €18 in my account (yes i am that skint ) so i had to go inside & after battling thru the 2 unnecessary door lock trap things theres a cue of 14 people in front of me which i was in for more than half an hour before i was served.. i asked the cashier why they no longer have an option to withdraw €10 from there account to be told " i dunno.. because they changed it?!?!" - great help

So i went to the front desk & made an offical complaint about this and the size of the queues.

Can anyone tell me why has this happend to the ATMs.. why the need to stop us poor buggers from withdrawing €10

When i was over in the UK recently i noticed they have started to stock £5 in ATMs again.. so in this tough time economically why are we going the opposite direction???

I've never got a 10er out of an aib branded atm. always been a ulster bank. you must not be familiar with banks.

Never ever have I gotten a tenner out of an AIB ATM. PTSB, Ulster Bank and the odd BOI machine are the only ones who seem to do it. They do not cater for minions such as ourselves. There was a time during the height of the boom when a lot of their ATMs stopped stocking 20s altogether.

Ive got a laser card but i dont like using it & wasnt sure if i could in the post office.. it definitley used to do tenners before.. in fact the lady dealing with my complaint told me they still do in their ATMs on student campuses etc.

Do they think its only students that are skint?

You can withdraw from your aib account in the post office :)

I can't remember a time when you could really.

Ulster Bank and Permanent TSB do, BOI the normal ones and the ones in shops usually do but are more prone to running out of them than normal ones- some of them are set up stupidly, so that they give €60 out in €10's.

If you're in Dublin city, the ATM neside Tesco in the Jervis gives €10's, so do the two on the third floor. The one near Insomnia on Stephen's Green does, and the one outside Wallis at the bottom of Grafton Street. Don't know exact locations of others, but there are plenty. Personally I find it lucky to get a €20 out of an AIB atm, they are the worst.

Edit- just saw you location. Point still stands, there has to be ATM's of other banks where you are.

I do all of my banking through my local post office now and I am with AIB.
It is very handy as the nearest bank is 15 miles away and there is very rarely a queue!
You can withdraw and deposit any amount

when you get some cash walk in with €2 and put it on the counter and ask for 250 AIB shares

As an aside to this; went into BOI on O'Connell St today to lodge some wedge and was pleasently surprised they had two new quick lodgement machines you could bang the cash into. They have this in the States for ages - ATMs that accept cash and cheque lodgements. Nice to see BOI is moving into the 21st century. Well partially; they might be able to incorporate it into the one machine sometime within the next 50 years. :pac:

Its quantity, the machines can only hold so much notes, so the more higher denominations the better. The machine I used last night only had 50s.

In France you also have the choice of withdrawing €5.

Irish Banks in the main are incredibly unhelpful. I wanted to move my Bank account from Cork to Waterford where I live now and I asked her could I keep my account number as it would make everything much easier for me and they said no.

When Irish Nationwide went under and the Irish Permanent took over I said to the cashier could I have a card with my account and she said no. In response I withdrew all my money. Reading their literature later I found out there was a card. I mean otherwise how was I suppposed to take out my money? Without a card I had no book, no card, just a statement every six months. A stupid way to bank on the high street. No wonder the banks are ****ed.

ARRRGH lol i never knew that.. at least i do now for the future so thanks!! seriously but what is the deal with queues in the banks they are always massive.. & for a person like me who has zero patience for standing about.. well they are a head-wrecker!!

And what about the hours they are open - half 10 till half 4 weekdays only!!! what kind of hours is that.. as you mightve guessed from me only having €18 in my account im currently unemployed but how do the people that are working get time to get to the bank

Well i was sure our AIB did dosh out €10 before & so were the staff in the bank.. but why dont all the banks do it????? infact why dont they dish out €5s too like the ones i saw in the UK???

Its not only at the top level of banking that is rotten.. its basic banking in this country thats a total joke... there customer service is pathetic.

Yet whats wrong is most people will stand in queues muttering under there breath moaning but they wont complain when they get to the cashier!!

Isnt it a little embarrasing with drawing 10e? I'd feel ashamed hen I have to take out even 20e in case somebody saw that I was a pov.

The ATMs I used in Belgium a while ago let you choose what way you wanted the cash - like if you wanted to withdraw €50, you could choose to get it in two twenties and a tenner.

I estimate we will have these in Ireland by 2035...:pac:

They wanted you to select 20 so as it would put you in over draft and they can then charge you extortionate fees

With AIB its not on the screen any more, the trick is to go onto other amounts and type in ten euro. usually does the trick ;)

Jesus I hate those door trap things...wouldn't do for someone properly claustrophobic. Only ever seen them in AIB too, other banks seem to manage fine without them...

Why are you still with AIB?
Its the only bank (in letterkenny) with that stupid two door system and there are no queues in the TSB or Ulster Bank (compaired to AIB's). I hate having to go in for work, wouldn't bank with them myself, the service is far too slow.
