Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    It's for charity as well.

Mine got dropped sadly due to some tech difficulties. BUT it should be on next month's showcase.

Really liked Spare Change though! Very sweet ending.

    I put together a 90 second short uncreativally titled 'A Brief Encounter' and is part of The Brief Brief competition. The competition you can find here;

Its the story of a relationship gone wrong and the horrific but life-affirming consequences. Please check it out and like under the video if you like.

Me and some friends do some vlogs on youtube
    the channels here ----> http://www.youtube.com/user/TheEvilandEmo

We're making a film based on them, meaning that we're playing Over the top versions of ourselves.

Heres the (very low fi and brief) trailer we put together for it.

I must pop in to the next one, support Irish film and all that jazz.

Spare Change? Will be at the Galway film Fleadh as part of this programme.

So too will No Messages the short myself and Jeff Lebowski worked on.

and the feature film that I worked on Portrait of a Zombie.

Also, if anyone is around tonight, two shorts I worked on called 'No Comment' and 'A Fist Full Of Lies' are being shown in the Underground Cinema tonight in the Kingston Hotel in Dun Laoighre. Show starts at 7:30.

They're sending out letters next week apparently. So that probably means I won't know until the week after cause I'm off on holidays next week.

Delighted to see that you got the best available slot for your film. The fleadh people tend to make the correct decisions, at least they do when they actually watch the submissions;)

Congrats and I'll see you there, trying to sort a decent room for Saturday night.

First off sorry if this is in the wrong part of the forum.

Just wanted to share with you a new video myself and some friends have created for our youtube channel, hopefully you'll get a laugh out of it.

When you've left it to the last minute to revise and your friends don't believe you can do it and you've watched Rocky 4 far too many times there is only one thing that can help you pass that exam......the study montage!

Two documentary shorts I made in college this year will be on at the Underground Cinema Film Festival as part of the Sunday lineup.

The first one, Nunday, is about a world record attempt in Kerry for most nuns in a single place. Well it's more about the whole thing being in aid of Pieta House and suicide prevention. It's on at 10am. It's also up for best documentary at the Underground Cinema awards at the end of September.

The second is one I posted a link to in this thread I think, about two men who claimed a public right of way existed over private land and ended up in court. Tis called Right (of Way). It's on at 3.45pm.

I'll be at both screenings I'd say so feel free to say hi if you figure out who I am. Clue: I'll be the guy cringing at every tiny mistake I made. And I'm short. :pac:

    Hope you like!

Meant to post this aaaages ago but anyway. I was at the Lighthouse shorts for this and loved Dead Event, laughed the whole way through it. Probably helped that I was a big wrestling fan when I was younger, but the person I was with loved it too and she has no interest.

    Fair play!

Well, new to these boards, happy to say I've found this little part of the forums!

Some super cool films on this so far and I'm here to share as well, haven't made any in a while now but hoping to get back into the habit soon!

First one I wanna show is a little horror short my friend Colin and I made, not top class or anything but a little bit of suspense is in there (I think). Plenty of more videos on my channel too if you wanna check them out, much different to this!

Anyways, enough blathering on my behalf, enjoy for what it's worth!

A short doc I made called 'Nunday' is going to be screened in the 'Made in Kerry' part of the Kerry Film Festival next week.

    http://www.kerryfilmfestival.com/index.php/festival/screening/made-in-kerry-part-1

I'll be there for it because (shameless plug but for a good cause) myself and the producer are cycling from Dublin to Kerry for it. If you want to sponsor us it's for Pieta House - the film was about Listowel breaking the world record for most nuns in a single place in aid of Pieta so I thought it'd be nice to do something myself since I've had a bit of success with the film.

The first of which is our most recent, which we made for Cork based musician David Moynihan. The song is called Let it Roll Away, and further details can be found in the info section underneath the video.

One that I should have posted a while back has been selected for a number of screenings so far this year, including the upcoming Cork and Waterford Film Festivals. We made it for Dublin based outfit No Sozopol, and it is called Claustrophobia. Again, further details available in the info box.

It only took about an hour to take all the pictures and then a little longer to put it together, and the camera work and all isn't exactly incredible, but it was kind of fun, so tada! Here it is!

Science and logic have provided us with explanations for many things, but there remains at the core of human beings a love of and a need for mystery, magic and myth.

This video explores the nature of belief and traditional storytelling in rural Ireland through the eyes of the inhabitants of Feakle, Co. Clare, a town still feeling the lingering influence of their famous 'wise-woman', Biddy Early (1798-1874).

    Hello all,

Whats the take on film studies masters courses?

I have always had a hugh interest in Film and I have completed a few short courses. One in filmbase and a couple for college credits.

I would love to get involved in the industry and I have had mixed feedback on whether the masters is the best route to take.

    Any advice would be greatly appretiated . . . . .

  • Registered Users Posts: 4 Athnakill

Hey WoolahUrma, there is a lot to be said for self learning and development in this industry, but courses like that really do offer a great doorway for not just the education but the networking.

Film is built on the mixed strengths and talents of individuals and anything like that where you can work with people and get to know them is great. Its also great to find where your passion in film is. As much as people try, no one is brilliant at everything and its nice to have people who you know can help or advise.

This is exactly it, I have an idea of what I might like to do within the business but I have no contacts, connections or practical experience to inform these notions. My big worry is spending time and money on a one year course and having nothing tangible to show for it at the end. Like for instance, I took particular interest in x during the course and now I'm off to get experience with the director who is established in making x.

I suppose that that's where building up the contacts etc comes in.

I know that lenny abrahamson is the director of the trinity masters.

That Jack and Ralph thing could be good. A trailer with just music and no dialogue is a bit off-putting though.

They should have waited until they could do one that tells the story a bit better.

Also (and obviously this is just a personal thing) that song is f*cking awful and I don't think the tone of the movie matches the tone of the song.

Hi there, I'm a songwriter, I've been recording my songs from home since I started making music in 2007.

I'm looking to write a soundtrack for a film, with songs based around it.

Basically I think maybe getting the plot or watching the film first, I can then write an EP around that, to go with the film.

It will be a new challenge for me.

Just made my website yesterday, you can hear everything I have done on it.

I have an album called Runway by Andrew Brady on Spotify iTunes etc.

Have never been to a recording studio.

Want a new challenge, as I am wanting to try new things now.

    www.andrewbradymusic.com

Also I will do it for free just for my new challenge, would be cool to even do a soundtrack for people into film production that are in the same boat as me with my music, just being creative and trying to further themselves.
    Regards.

I'd say it could do with a tighter cut, and you could cut May out entirely, I didn't think she did anything to add to it. There's a great story there, you just needed to get there a bit faster, maybe bring the bullying in earlier and showing progression from that negative point to doing something positive about it, with the more personal stuff (hobbies, etc.) woven into that.

If you wanted to put it on your CV, give the few underexposed shots a quick adjustment to match them to the rest and cut it to around 3/4 minutes and you'd have a great piece to show people.

    - Also watch your audio levels, the first train shot overpowers the interview dialogue.

Feel free to drop me a pm if you want me to clarify anything.
