Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Let them cut you off, then log into your sky account online, go to my Sky and an offer of come back we miss you 50%.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but just a quick warning. If you sign up for a new deal make sure you get HD included. From 30th September on demand box sets are only going to be available to customers with HD sub.

First up I got a phone call out of the blue yesterday from Sky offering me half price HD for 12 months. Thanks but no thanks was my response and I told the guy I wouldnt even pay a Euro for it. Apart from the cost involved the HD package would wreck the old "card trick" so that was a double incentive not to take it. That call lasted about 3 minutes which is considerable less than my call to them this morning.

Im currently on a 12 month half price offer and it is due to expire in mid Sept so I rang this morning to cancel. Had to wait almost 15 minutes to get through and then spent about another 10+ minutes talking to an agent after which he had to transfer me to another dept but in fairness he did offer to call me back rather than have me waiting. Took anther 10+ minutes to get through to the next chap.

So the second agent goes through the usual dribble asking why I was cancelling and preached about all the nice things that Sky provide such as the Sky+ features and Sky Go etc etc but I told him that (a) I couldnt afford the full price on the Sports pack which Im currently on and (b) my viewing needs are well catered for as I have a combination of Saorview, Freeview (I live close to the NI border) and Setanta / BT**

As Im a long time loyal customer he pulls the usual "I'll talk to my manager" stunt which is just their way of grabbing a coffee or going to the loo or whatever. After another 5 minutes or more he comes back with a 20% discount which I rejected and that was that. I'll be cut off on 15th Sept. The call duration was 54 minutes which was an awful waste of my time and theirs but thankfully the call was free as I have my broadband and calls with them.

** When I mentioned about having Setanta / BT he asked if I was using their box for viewing the channels and pointed out that if I didnt have an active Sky subscription then I couldnt watch them. I more or less told him that he was talking a load of bollix and that there were thousands of people in Ireland doing this. I also reminded him of Setanta's obligations under the terms of their BAI license and he was a little quieter after that.

But that is really stooping to a new low...even for Sky.

Sounds similar to my experience the other day, although they didn't keep me as long on the phone nor did i get the "I'll talk to my manager" spiel. My cut off date is a couple of days before you. Sky have rung me each day since I cancelled (I haven't answered the calls).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 241 ✭✭ispini1984

Parents have variety package and multiroom. Rang Sky to see any offers, went through to cancellations.

6 months sky sports 50% off no contract with 31 days cancellation notice
20% of variety package for 9 months.

so parents would reduce from €51 to €40, leaving with them to decide but its something anyway

the 2 guys i spoke to couldnt have been more helpful, makes a change when ringing an irish call centre.

I just rang and cancelled. I was on a half price offer until September 15th. I was offered half price movies for 6 months but the girl said it was "impossible" for her to discount the subscription itself so it would have been €32 plus €14 for the movies.

    What a load of bull.

I said that I will get a Saorview box and we mainly watch terrestrial channels. The rep tried telling me a Saorview box is €200.

    I opened

    http://www.powercity.ie/index.php?par=10-23&cat=TV,%20DVD,%20Soundbar,%20%20Saorview%20,%20Tablet,%20iPad%20,%20Laptops,%20Cameras&action=brandstory

And asked her where she got €200 from. She stated DID have a box for €200. Pity I can't get into their website. She then tried to tell me that other Saorview boxes are not approved bar this one at €200. I explained to her that all the boxes on the Power City website, including the one at €59, said they are Saorview approved.

I asked her why she was giving out misleading information and she promptly allowed me to cancel.

I must have been talking to her yesterday same thing €200 for a saorview box and twenty percent discount i told them to cancel.
So now the waiting game begins.

maybe email them photos of you browsing saorview boxes at currys or a video of a lad wearing a UPC jacket sneaking out of the house early in the morning

Haha you won't believe this. She had to ring my wife to cancel fully because account is in her name.

When she did call my wife, she started making offers again. My wife just said we want to cancel as my husband told you. She then said she had to put her through to her colleague to confirm the cancellation fully.

Straight away he gave 50% off any package we want. We now have Variety and Movies for €30 a month. I tried getting this deal with Sky Sports 1 and 5 for the soccer offer but rep said he had no knowledge of it.

I've now had 3.5 years of half price Sky. I will never ever pay more than 50% for it.

Rang yesterday. Spent 40 minutes on the phone, such a pain. At the end the best offer he had was 25 percent off for 9 months (currently paying 81 euro). Logged in to mysky account today and there is an offer for 25 percent off for 12 months and a new sky plus box (presume this would be a contract though). Going to let it go for the month and see what happens.

We have had sky for nearly 20 years and he kept saying you have had such a long tenure here, it would be a shame to waste that as new customers don't get the same treatment. I actually laughed while saying that it has been zero help and the most you ever gave us was half price multiroom.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,976 ✭✭✭FourFourRED

Started with Sky yesterday on the €64 basic + sports package. Really want HD but hoping they can give it to me for half price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 484 ✭✭bizz213

Called to cancel there, took 9 mins in total on phone, took 6 months sky sports 50% off no contract with 31 days cancellation notice.. happy with that..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,825 ✭✭✭✭Nalz

Got offered 50 quid a month for all the sports, a saving of 14 quid a month. No contract

Not too bad but expected better...

I wonder could I ring back and look for more!

  • Registered Users Posts: 733 ✭✭✭Ronan

You probably could. I cancelled a few weeks back, and will be cut off in a week or so. I currently have a 35% offer for 12 months on the My Sky page, but will hold out for 50% and hope that includes HD!

I had an offer from UPC (who I have broadband with) for their entertainment package TV for pretty much free for the year and Sky Sports free for 6 months but can't do horizon to myself! Would rather do freesat.

Just saw this on their website:

    Guess I better get watching...

for anyone cancelling on the 30 days, be very clear to the customer service rep that you are cancelling if you don't accept their first discount offer. I had cancelled on July 19th as my contract was up on 20th August. I just called to check that the instruction was followed and it hadn't been - he assumed that I was happy with the 20% discount on std price and had put me down for that from next month (not his fault, i wasn't clear with him that i still wanted the cancellation to go thru).

Also, once you get thru to someone, ask them to call you back and they will - the rep confirmed that they will usually call back if requested.

to save time, the number i dial is 0818 719 858 Menu option 4 and then menu option 5 (to cancel). Was only on hold for about 2 minutes just now and then he called me back.

He did make a new offer of €25 a month for the variety pack and half price hd to total €32.50 for the next 12 months (no contract) but that's still too much.

my cancellation has gone thru now. lets hope they come back with another offer.

Why is that? So on demand is useless without a HD sub?

Guys, Ive been offered the Variety Pack plus Multiroom and Sky Sports and HD for 80e a month. (75 for first 4 months) down from 102 on the site.

That includes the 20% off tesco offer, 50% off HD and 5er off Multiroom for first 4 months.

I haven't agreed to it yet as I am still shopping around but are there any other available offers I can utilize to bring down the price or does this look like the best im gonna get.

Just as a conparison I called them myself today to discuss options.

I was currently on a fixed price variety pack with multiroom for €45 a month. I ended up signing up for sports for 12 months with a 31 day cancellation contract, I was offered 50% off sports so €18 a month.

I then asked about upgrading the sky boxes and ended up getting two new sky+HD (1 is a 2TB model) for €79.

I was given 50% off the HD subscription then so €7.50 a month.

Total for variety, sports, multi room + HD is now expected to be €70.50 per month.

I didn't push to hard but I'm sure there was more room to manoeuvre if I had of.

    deals to be had

called to cancel as coming to end of 6 month half price offer on sports and movies, €40.50 pm.

Ended up getting same deal for another 6 months with half price HD for €48 pm and not tied into a contract. They also sweetened the deal with a credit of €50.

    Hi,

I moved home on the 1st July and had the sky broadband and tv (€68/month). I went through the home move process, however sky were having trouble finding my address even though there was an eircom line in the house. Also, the line had been deactivated.

Sky advised me they would contact Eircom to locate my address. After numerous attempts they couldn't get in contact with Eircom . At this stage I was on holidays and my girlfriend was dealing with them. Sky advised her that we couldn't get broadband in our area (which is a total lie as I can pick up wifi signal from 2 other sky routers in the estate).

When I got back from holidays 2 weeks ago, I rang them numerous times to find out what the story was. I was told they were still trying to contact Eircom and that they would call me back (never once received a call back )

I rang again last Monday week and the agent found my address, it was slightly different on their system. The agent explained that my line was only 6mb (15mb in old house) and I would have to pay €10 more per month. I thought this was ridiculous but had no choice so I agreed. I was informed that I would have broadband in 5 days, guess what, still no broadband .

So, rang again today and was told that I had informed the previous agent that I didn't want to go ahead with the broadband. This was a complete lie. I told him to set it up straight, but was informed that the system is currently down and he will call me back at 3pm today

So this is where I am at the moment, still no broadband after nearly 8 weeks. My contract is up on the 24th of September. What can I expect to be offered if I go about cancelling?

Apologies for the essay, just wanted to give ye a clear picture of how sky have messed me about

At this a long time now, most recent sub was cancelled in July, to bring on the half price deal for winter,

Checked up the last game of the season in 2015 , June 6th

I'm like, OK, ill sign up if I get offered a deal after Sept 6th, then I'll have all the footy.

Got an email last week, half price anything for 9 months, I'll sit it out, as I don't need it now, there will be more offers.

Then I'll take bt and cut it asap, and get half price ther.

After all this time, I can't see how I can have half price for years, subsidiesd by new subscribers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,249 ✭✭✭GY A1

got a call there offering sports half price for 6 months,
but if i wanted movies also, half price would only be for 3 months,
no sense at all to them

    Guys just to update you.

I rang back quoting this thread and the deals people had got.

e.g: 50% off Sports etc and deals on Variety packs.

They gave me " summer deal" after a call back after speaking with the manager.

    Nice girl on the phone.

    I got 50% off Sports for 12 Months €18
Free Variety Pack for 12 Months €0
    HD and Multiroom at full price. €15 x 2 = €30.
Also SkyGo extra for free so I get 4 devices on it.

So I am now paying €48 per month for the 12 months and that included one Sky+HD Box and one SkyHD box.

That was probably my 5th call to them overall and the discounts just kept coming eventually with persistence.

I am due to be cancelled next Tuesday and have an offer on the website via 'My Offers' of 35% not to leave.

Rang up to see if there is anything better they can do and they offered me 20% and said that is the best they can do! I mentioned the offer and still that was the 'best offer they have' - Clearly who you talk too...

anyway told them to cancel away, way to expensive.

He's not referring to people without an HD sub, rather those that have actually cancelled their sky sub.

Goes back to my opinion that it is definitely who you end up talking to when you call up.
