Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How is it doubly acting on the side of caution?

I paraphrased, they used 2 standard deviations from the mean which means that at .82 you are already well over what you require. Above ~.64 there is no benefit recorded and as you get older even that number drops.

When you factor in the facts that people put on less muscle with more experience, improved nutrient partitioning that's gained from training, and 0.82g (I think???) was arrived at from samples of people that included steroid users who will put on a lot more muscle, it's funny to think about how low you might actually be able to keep protein.

As has been said there's no harm in keeping it above minimum but I think there is a lot to be said for lowering protein intake intake below conventional levels during a cut to keep carbs a bit higher, as during a cut it's the reduction in performance that causes most of any muscle loss (not sure if this is totally proven but I've heard strong arguments for this).
