Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wonder what will happen to Suarez. I don't wish harm on anyone but he needs a very long ban to get his head in order. After all kids watch these games. What kind of example is that? You should properly cook your food before you eat it!

If Uruguay play Germany he can have a shoulder of Lahm

I feel sorry for Japan, but Colombia did play very well. Should they have brought out their oul'fella in goal, or not? Two ways of looking at it - (a) they gave the poor oul divil a last crack at the World Cup, and (b) they disrespected their opponents. Class discussion will ensue....

Right, oldwans & oldfellas, As we move into the knockout stages, I really think we need to up our Game on this Thread.

There has'nt been a barbaque yet, or indeed a decent bottle of Wine, or even a decent Beer.

Let's face it at our age we can't compare with the Soccer Forum, where they know what's going on, on the Gambling Forum, where they make loads of cash off every Game.

So I propose everyone chooses a team to support, and we expect expert analysis, before, during, and after your Team plays, regarding the wine available in that region, or the pleasures of their beach front properties, or maybe their local beers, maybe their weather, or whatever you like.pictures of local Hotties, will be welcome.

I would propose an open draw, perhaps supervised by a Mod, but as this thread is an oversight, I think it might be rigged.

    Anyone with me?

Maybe I should be off to Beer Guts, and receding Hairlines, or whatever it's called.

    Come on Russia.

    https://www.google.ie/?gws_rd=ssl#q=world+cup+knockout+fixtures&safe=active

maybe someone with a titter of wit, could produce a list where we can substitute usernames for the Country, ( help me out here ).

Netherlands for me, so. Can't analyse to save my life, but can comment, right or wrong! :D Himself says now that I've picked them, I've put a curse on them!

Brazil or Germany for me. Neither have shown their real capabilities (yet) but given home advantage I'll stick with the host nation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,552 ✭✭✭Layinghen

Argentina please. Based solely on the fact I like a nice bottle of Malbec wine:D

Right, so that's 6 teams taken care of.

So for tonight we need someone to take on Muffler, and to represent Chile at 5pm

Then at 9pm we have both Columbia, and Uruguay available.

Here's Mark Lawrenson's predictions to help with your choices

Howard Webb, May not make it off the field, if that disallowed goal, from Hulk, makes a difference.

Might be. We got distracted by Sky Arts1, they had The Shadows farewell tour on, luvvely! Ten years ago now though so they will have a few more grey hairs at this stage. Who won the match then? :o

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,108 ✭✭✭Jellybaby1

The heat is bad for us Dutch, we seem to be faffing about a bit. I wish they'd attack, attack, attack, a wee bit more. Also seems to be a couple of can can dancers there, with high kicks!! :(

WOO HOO!!!!! About flamin' time too, I've me nails bit off!!!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,108 ✭✭✭Jellybaby1

Well, we hid our light under a bushel for the first half but played a much better second half. The Mexicans came out all barrels blazing from start to finish, and I have to bow to them, they were the better side. Still, my side won! WOO-HOO! The penno was deserved, but not as deserved as it was made to look! My analysis is over. Leave me out of the next lot. I can't take the tension.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,551 ✭✭✭Rubecula

Great way to win (penalty in the 94th min) but an awful way to lose.

Have to agree with you there Rube. I'm sorry Mexico are out, they deserve to be there, rotten luck. Wish I had put money on me own team now! :)

    That was exciting.

Right we have a few teams in need of support,
Tonight's 9 pm game is CRC v GRE, any takers

Tomorrow we have, FRAv NGA, anyone?

Then it's the big one, me v layinghen at 5pm

But the way, after the footie last night I switched over to Glastonbury, on BBC.

Metalica, absolutely nailed it, great rendition of " Whiskey in the jar " for example. Brilliant.

Think tonight it's Dolly Parton, might give it a miss.

Yes indeed something to look forward to.

Unfortunately no libations for me as I cheer on my Argentinian friends as I have been in hospital since last week. Maybe I'll get them to put a little something extra in the drip :p

Thankfully I have a nice room to myself with my own telly so I can cheer away to my hearts content.

Wonder would they allow stick a few posters of Messi up on the wall?

OK so in an attempt to fill in the remaining available Supporter Places

and in the light of the obvious success of this Thread, being on the 5th page so far,

I think the Moderators, ( who despite their disinterest, I think are keeping a sneaky eye on us ) should pick a Team, each, if for no other reason than to take one for the Team, should their pick be rubbish.

have you picked a Team yet?

    Soccer / Excitement?
    Military / Intelligence?
    Slightly / Shocked?

Watched a great team last night: Robert Plant's team playing at Glastonbury! I'm not effluent enough to have Sky Art so I missed the Shads but I'm sure they'll make it onto Freesat soon.

You know that sound you make when you imitate Hank's guitar playing Wonderful Land or Apache? How do you spell it? "Daru Daru" with your nostrils pinched? Or maybe "Dow Dow?"

Don't know if this got a mention before but Roy Hodgson? England boss? said something like: "If we had scored, it would have been a great match". Words fail me!

Flicking through the channels tonight I saw lots of intelligentia discussing today's World Cup Diving Tournament....again. Elsewhere, Dawly Port'n was making that metallic noise she calls singing and the Women's Grunting Championships from Wimbledon were also on......so, thoroughly depressed, I went to bed early, with some nice warm cocoa, clutching my signed photograph of Victor Meldrew, hoping that tomorrow would be better.

Pick a diving team? In Benny Hill shorts? Walking out, holding hands with little boys? Hand clapping over their heads? Goalie shouting at everyone if he has to make a save? The offside rule? Pretending to know the words of their national anthems? Skidding on their knees if they score? Same old saymo, over and over.

Oh alright! Come on ye Faroe Islands!

" Thomas Müller, who is currently positioned to become the first two-time winner of the Golden Boot with four goals thus far, seems less interested in his own goal-scoring prowess to date than what lays before him.
“Now and then, one drops in front of my foot,” said Müller of his game-winning goal against the USA. “but I am doing nothing but training like a madman.”"

I am only keeping an eye on this thread as I had to sign in blood to swear that I would check every single updated post and review and report on whether it was safe to be disseminated. You can't imagine how stressful this job is at times. So what teams are left to pick from?
