Founders All Day IPA. I was really underwhelmed. This is highly rated on beer rating sites. I found it bland and watery.

After last years ones I said I wouldn't buy again but on Thursday I picked them Up twice and put them down twice as I was tempted but will wait see if they come out as singles.
Baggot street offy have them as singles, 5 euros a bottle. Save your money though.

Ridiculously excited for Easterfest in the Fran Well today. 70 beers on tap over the weekend. The Well themselves, Trouble, Dungarvan & Metalman all seem to have new stuff on, but top of my list to try is Blacks/Beoir DIPA. Looks like it'll be perfect beer graden weather as well for it.

It's goes down very easy but lacked the hoppy aftertaste I like. I love Dead Pony Club so I think my taste in pale ale differs significantly from the opinion on the forum.

I like Dead Pony Club, I also like All Day, they are both very good "session" pale ales. Both do the same job, very light bodied, flavoursome pale ales you could easily drink a lot of on a hot day.

Looking forward to trying Black's session ale soon.

That beer isn't bitter at all - it's sour.
Why do so many Irish people mix up bitter and sour?

Lemon juice is sour. Strong black tea is bitter.

I love, love, love that beer.

I'm heading in tomorrow, looks like a good list this year, I think it's all irish apart from Sharps?, was it Easter beer fest last year that had a heap of obscure Belgian beer?, most of them were horrible so I ended up on Rebel Red!

Correct, its sour not bitter. When I was writing it i knew it wasn't right but was drawing a blank for the correct way to describe it

You're not alone. I've noticed much confusion between bitter and sour amongst people. I think it's an Irish thing (or maybe it's more widespread - I dunno)

Went down to McHugh's as I always do when I'm visiting the folks.

Picked up an Einstok White Ale which my brother raves about. I never got the love for the Toasted Porter, even though Porter is my favourite style of beer, I felt it lacking, and a bit home brew-ish. Just poured the White Ale here now.

A BPBP Pleasant Porter, a Porterhouse Devil's half acre and 4 Kinnegar (2 Rustbucket, 2 Devil's backbone) for later, after a visit to Harry Byrne's to see what crafty beers they have at the moment.

Picked up a heap of new stuff in O'Brien's in Naas as well as some old reliables.

At the moment I am having a Rogue Dead Guy Ale. Not really a fan overall - is it meant to be very flat?

Had a tour of Black's Brewery in Kinsale this morning. Some lucky sod was picking up slabs of Beoir #1

Thought Dead Guy Ale was very mediocre. Then again I always think that Rogue beers are quite overrated.

Lots of interesting beers as the Easter festival but 8 Degree's Full Irish stood out for me. Yum.
I wonder if they'll bottle it.

Just poured a Aventinus Eisbock and there is a load of sedimentation at the bottom. Is this normal? Also when I opened it the head came foaming out the top whilst the bottle was upright.

IPA is dead 2014. Yet again, I kinda regret buying it. It's been years since it was good. I've had 3 of the 4 (all except the exp 366) and they are all very similar - rather sweet and a little hoppy but not enough to identify the hops individuality.
Let down, screw it.. I'm hitting Mikkellers 1000 IBU next.

Climbed Snowdon today, took the Llanberis Path, about 5 hours up and back from the village at a fairly easy pace including stopping about 3/4 of the way up for lunch and having a cup of tea and a scone in the cafe at the top. Beautiful views.

At the bottom of the path, just before you get back to the village there's a lovely little Tea Rooms with a nice wooden terrace who sell a few beers, myself and my friend split a bottle of Great Orme Brewery's Welsh Black, described as "Dark Ale" on the bottle, seemed more like a porter to me, but then again what is a porter but a dark ale anyway?
Nice and light bodied but very dark and had some lovely roasty and cocoa flavours to it. Only 4% and I think it would be a great session beer.

Yeah can't get enough of it, always pick up a few when I'm in the offo. Kind of get a kind of smokeyness off it, anyone else? Is it just seasonal or is it an established part of their range now?

Had my second Of Foam and Fury ever tonight. Really enjoying it, although it's a bit sweeter than I remember from the first time I had it. Dunno if I'm willing to shell out 6.95 for it that often though.

Started with a Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale.
Then on to a Founders All Day.
Now sipping on a Of Foam and Fury.
It can only go downhill after the latest beer.

It was a special at the Beer fest a couple of years ago where it was one if the most popular beers, unfortunately I didn't get to try it then, was gone by the time I got there. They then released it in bottles last year (I think), but I didn't think much of it. But this year! :)

Didn't see it around last year at all, only got to try it a month or two ago. Been hooked on it since (in a non-dependency way of course! :pac: ). Hope they keep it going permanently, really is the pick of their beers so far.

Not sure I've had the Long Hammer but I really like the other 3. You seem to have very particular taste. I struggle to work out why you'd like the founder's but not the other two but that's what makes beer and subjective taste interesting. (I've been trying to figure out what exactly my wife likes and doesn't like in a beer for years)

    Enjoying ab Amber Ella now.

So, I was down in Harry Byrne's in Clontarf last night.

    To my surprise I saw three taps labelled as such;

    Parish Porter
    Battle Ale
    Brian Brew

It's the one thousandth anniversary of the Battle of Clontarf you see, lots of stuff going on around the place, including a kick ass re-enactment in St Anne's Park at 1 and 4 today if you are looking for something to do.

I asked the barman what they were, and he told me they are house beers, brewed for the pub, and not rebadged other drinks. I actually asked three times, and he was adamant they were exclusive brews.

    Told me the

    Porter is by Galway Hooker
    Ale is by Bo Bristle
    Brian Brew is by Kinnegar

Was there with two lads, one drinking Guinness the other Becks V, and when they were buying rounds the bar staff who weren't the guy I spoke to originally didn't have any idea what they were being asked for, which I found strange if they are house beers, in fairness.

They are nitro stout, red ale and a blonde.

The stout is grand, with some lovely roasty flavours. The Blonde is horrible, some awful flowery hops and a weak as dishwater finish. The red ale is nice though, some decent hop bitterness in the finish, if not a little weak bodied, but some nice caramelly tones about it too.

All in all, its lovely to see three brews being called "house beers" in a pub in the suburbs, even if all of them are not to my tastes, but two out of three ain't bad, as Meatloaf told us. Blondes were never my favourite style, but my lager drinking buddy didn't like it either. My stout drinking friend didn't swap from Guinness, but he's not averse to drinking craft beers, and he's enjoyed nights in GBB bars before, so he could be persuaded, and I stayed on the red all night.

No idea of pricing, so apologies for that.

I'm wondering has the barman, and by extension me, been hoodwinked though.

    ARE they exclusive house beers?

I'd imagine the porter is the same porter/stout that hooker also sell under 3 different names in Tigh Neachtains, Massimo and Bierhaus in Galway, the ale is probably Bo Bristles amber at a guess and I very much doubt Kinnegar are doing an exclusive brew for anyone either.

Was in Brewery corner last night. Busy without being "mad" busy

Only had 2 pints, one Metalman & one Leann Follain. Got a tasting mat for the people I was with as while they'd be up for trying beer they don't drink much. Leann Follain was universally loved & two ordered the DIPA after tasting it

Had nogne 500 and two captains last night in a pub in wexford for 9e each which was great value i think as they usually sell for 8e+ in offies.

They were both great but probably not a wise choice for the night.

Pleasent porter was 6e there and i had a few. Very nice smooth stout, at 6.6% it went down easy. Great balance of all the things i like in a stout.

BD nanny state- interesting 0.5% beer, hoppyness was great but you really miss the malt and alcohol.

My local offie got in a few of the Rogue range so picked up The Juniper Pale Ale.

Also picked up Of Foam and Fury, first time I've seen bottles of it. Very pricy at €5.95 but a nice treat. Still think they'd be better doing it at 330 ml for cheaper.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

9.95 is 4c less than I happily paid on more than one occasion. Is it just a beer or an experience? Toeing the line with hipster talk here, but it's a beautiful drink :)

Started the day with a can of Murphy's for the football (tradition). Followed by a Founders Breakfast Stout, fantastic as always. Then a To Ol Raid Beer. Still such a beautiful hop mixture. And on the OFAF for the remainder of the football.

Also just remembered I'm in work later, so that'll be fun.

Beoir DIPA and the Full Irish by 8 degrees were definitely highlights of Easterfest yesterday. It was great to see so many Irish breweries producing some many great beers.

I'm debating whether to go back in later on.

I had Of Foam and Fury last weekend. Fantastic strong (8.5%) IPA. So hoppy but bright and fruity at the same time. Expensive but seriously worth it. Got me thinkin about what it reminded me of. The only beer i can compare it with is the slightly less potent but equally brilliant Sierra Nevada Torpedo. Bought 4 cans of this earlier in my local offi. Lookin forward to one or two of them later.
