I thought Stringer had gone to Newcastle too but he's playing for Saracens right now. Anyone know what happened to his Newcastle move?

That loan is from next week. This is his last appearance for Sarries.

I presume we have the option to recall him. Feckin hope so anyway.

I'd be surprised if Munster don't have the option to recall him.

I think with TOL we would be ok but Williams... :(

For the second week in a row Williams was better than TOL when he came on last night.

Weren't plenty of people predicting great things for Williams before Murray passed him out and ate his dinner?

All I ever heard on here was that Williams was decent but Murray was the real talent. And then Williams kept getting selected ahead of Murray, but it was clear as day that Murray was the better of the two.

I don't rate Williams at all tbh, although I haven't seen the last two games.

Mafi was probably the pick of our scrumhalves yesterday in fairness. We're ****ed without Murray against Ulster.

The next few days are anxious moments for Murray and Munster, he'll be a huge loss to us if he's not around for the knock-out games.

We've never had a season for injuries like we've had this year

I think it throws a real spanner in works regarding TOL's potential move away.

If (and I hope I'm wrong!) Murray is gone for the season and maybe longer, than TOL suddenly becomes first choice.

Doesn't matter whether or not we recall him, he's cup tied for the HEC so it's TOL and Williams for the HEC if Murray is banjaxed.

Well rumour has it Perpignan aren't interested any more, so I think the spanner is already residing in the works.

If Murray has a long term injury we'll have to look at bringing in an NIQ 9

Williams ain't up to it and if TOL decides to have another slump in form we could be rightly ****ed

Twitter messages seems positive on his injury

Hope he's ok, played a lot better today. Munster would certainly be in trouble without him.

Forgot that he was cup tied.

In the event that it is a bad one for Murray, it'd probably be worth recalling Stringer all the same, given that we have big fixtures coming up in the Pro12. Leinster and Ulster and home, plus a semi final and hopefully a final, so Stringer would get a share of game time.

Michael Corcoran just tweeted that it was a hyper extension and not as bad as feared, so hopefully he will be back for the run-in.

Who though? Worst case scenario and we have to bring in a NIQ, what are the options? Is there a Brad Thorn of scrum-halves knocking around?

And Kidney did seem positive enough about it. We won't know for sure for a day or two...let's hope for the best.

    Yup. Strings, ironically.

    Yup. Strings.

But he can't play in the Heineken cup.

I did think of Stringer, but this is true. It's HC that we'll really need them before, Williams can do a job off the bench in pro12.

    Cup tied by Saracens.

I don't know, I think Williams or Gerry Hurley would be decent back-up to O'Leary, I'd actually have Williams ahead of TOL at the minute. I wouldn't be bothered searching Japan for a replacement anyhow.

    seriously?

short-term, emergency loan deals to cover injury result in cup-tied?

    that's pretty self-defeating isn't it?

Playing in the competition results in you being cup tied. Seems pretty reasonable to me.

    In general yes

But, for example, Strings is only cuptied as he played for a team that needed emergency, short-term cover..which is a good system in rugby......now if Strings cannot play, Munster may have to seek an emergency cover from elsewhere, despite having Strings available

It seems a waste of time and effort

Probably not to Stringer, who got to play in the HC for a least one more season.

Perpignan signed a scrum half last week so I dont think TOL is going anywhere near there

    er...what?

I mean that cuptying stringer and making Munster seek cover is a waste of time and effort in this case......not that Stringer's loan spell was a waste!!

Then Munster shouldn't have loaned him out! If lads could play for multiple teams
, it would be seriously open to abuse.

Is it the same in soccer Champions League or FA cup ? I think so.

As I said, I agree generally with the principle of cuptying

However, "Then Munster shouldn't have loaned him out" is the reaction I would be most concerned about

The system of allowing short-term emergency cover in rugby is a good one, given the importance of having specialised players.....particularly true for props etc.

If clubs (particularly those competing for the HC)look at this situation, they may decide that they wont allow players to help out other clubs in need

surprisingly I knew what you meant

Chances are if it wasn't for the tax ramifications for him of moving he would of. The loans are just ways of letting him play some where else while maintaining the tax breaks

well, we'll see if he agrees if he is in the stands watching some southern hemisphere emergency loan play for Munster in the HC Final!
