I wondered whether Specialized had ever made a road bike that wasn't pig-ugly, and I found this.

This is an official brochure shot from 2008 comparing it to some contemporary piece of crap.

You can see from the bottle, non-matching hoods/saddle/bar tape and the driveside fail that they were struggling to hold it together even in 1981. Or maybe it was OK in 1981 and in the meantime they swapped a bunch of parts and by 2008 they didn't understand about matching stuff any more.

It reminds me of the American Flyers movie for some reason even though the cables were exposed. Perhaps it was the fashion then to have brown hoods? I think it was, fashion eh?

It was the fashion indeed. Looks find me, probably because it was normal back then.

Imagine how nice the wheels would look hooked up to a frame!

I'm a colnago fanatic...always have been...those are possibly 3 of the ugliest Nagos I've ever seen...

Ah, I dont know, give them time.

My first reaction when I saw the pics last week wasnt positive TBH - though they have grown on me. The levers sure are gaudy, but - being just back from Italy - I kinda want a set.

Ironically, it is the day-glo green frame that I fancy, but at over €13k they will stay very much in the area of fantasy, regardless.....!

id be the same. love most colnagos' but those colours are tough on the eyes and the levers are rank.. and would no doubt look a bit shabby as the standard wear and tear goes on... though if you're going to pay 13k on a bike. perhaps it would only get very occasional use.

im sure a lot of people would think the same but theses a limited edition promotional machines designed to get plenty of exposure on sites like this

Absolutely, and that is why the post highlighted that they are LE items.

If I ever got one, it would be to hang on a wall, not to ride. Can you imagine the feeling of scuffing any of it?:eek:

    Anyway, enough chatting....

If I'm paying €13k for a bike I'm riding it everywhere, and I mean everywhere

Newly built Colnago Extreme Power with Campagnolo Record 10 Groupset. Wheels will probably be changed and the steerer tube still has to be cut!

Not gone on that. Red on the wheels clashes with flouro yellow on the frame and the white stem looks odd.
