Agreed its a 132. I didn't mean the red 127, I was talking about the beige/gold coloured car behind the 132 and beside the double decker. Jap cars were only just getting a foothold in the market back then.

Speaking of which my father traded in his 128 for a Datsun 120Y (great car) around 77-78, he drove Japs for about 18 years non stop after that before falling for VW's.

Youre eyesight is better than mine so :D, Its too far for me to even guess.I would guess though that the car parked behind the blue transit van and beside the blue fiat 128 is a Datsun 120y.Bulletproof engine, body total ****e.

Incidently, what year was it? Cant be before 77 anyhow cause the 127s were made between 77-81.

One for Carchaeologist, any idea of the van with the single headlight?

  • Registered Users Posts: 511 ✭✭✭PanhardPL

Its an electric van, probably owned by a local bakery.

Great picture there!! Thats an electic van, the very same as this picture here by Michael Corcoran. I think they were called B.M.A.s or something. They were usually used as breadvans and the like.

It looks a lot like this: a 1947 Brush Two Ton Battery Lorry owned by Dartry Laundries now in the National Transport Museum in Howth. Badge looks the same as on the street photo, just the indicator lights are different. Its on the back of a truck and access was limited the last day I was out there but its on one of the lovely postcards they have for sale. Hopefully it will soon be returned to its past glory. Brush built Trams and other electric motors, they still exist today.

I omitted to ask what that was when I posted.:o
Is that a Cortina Estate in front of it, inside the Victor 101?
The second pic. I'd say is from the 60's.

Old view of Hawkins Street, Dublin showing Type 2 Vans and long demolished Theatre Royal and Regal Rooms.

Both the vans are the same colour scheme - perhaps the same business

Ah, my old previous college, Bolton Street, and I didn't even think The Four Seasons pub was around that long, as it was there when I went to college in the 90's. I think it is closed since though

^^ good on ya red sean for the pic of The Iveagh Market - my father owned one of each of the cars pictured. (not the actual ones in the pic)

the Anglia was the first car i remember us having, though i only remember the outside of it, (which may have been two tone grey & blue but not like the boy-racer spec above :D) not the interior.

Mk1 Escort (4325 ZC, 1975 iirc) was 1100, bottle green in colour, and when the clock went round at 100,000 by Dad tooted the horn as we drove :) this would have been around 81/82, he had it from around 1980.

R12 (807 CIK) ours was the earlier model, which had the thin vent strips on the c-pillar, as opposed the the facelift version seen in the pic above. My father bought this from Costigan motors on Temple Hill Blackrock to replace the Escort. An extremely comfortable car, and the first one i drove...well when i say drove i mean reversed the 10 foot of our drive, stopped before i got onto the road in the estate then drove it back in.
