Well supposedly he was cleared for contact by doctors, the issue was his throwing strength....still won't really know until he gets in a proper pads session/game!

I'll ****ing cry if Manning ends up in Kansas, best we could hope for next 4 seasons would be a wildcard, that team is already excellent in a lot of positions, the ****ers would win a superbowl

this is a hilarious post ...you are right ...he would get to the SuperBowl with Kansas ...they are very balanced , have also kept Bowe....Arizona played very tough on defence down the home stretch last season and have good recievers...Miami despite having an interfering owner are very balanced and tough everywhere except QB

has anyone considered the Jets .....suddenly they would be SBowl contenders ....it is the big market ...5th ranked defense ...Santana Moss ...good TE ...cant see them drafting a prodigal son but a proven quantity ???? and dont anyone tell me they believe in Sanchez cos they dont

I discount the Redskins ...firstly i think with the 6th pick and Dan Snyders' dollars they will surely be in the last 2 for RG3 ...they are a losing record team with a coach in a win-now position and are relatively toothless on offence ( defence is strong) . I dont think Manning can afford or will want to work on a project with the Skins in 2012 until they improve. He will want to win now and there will be several teams where he can win now . Shanahan is a strong-willed character also and he (Manning) may not want the father-son act either . I see the Skins going all in for RG3 (he suits Shanny's bootleg offences) and then targetting Flynn if anyone trumps them

i think he is coming back no question ...in a perfect world Irsay wanted Manning fit (after agreeing to that monster contract ) ....if 2011 went badly and the Colts got to pick Luck , he wanted Manning fit so he could pick Luck and trade Manning surely for a 2012 1st and 2nd draft pick and the same in 2013 (well if RG3 is worth it...so is a Hall of Famer with 4 years left in the tank ...if medically passed to play)

He couldnt keep Luck and Manning on the team simultaneously with the cap issues ...for instance Robert mathis couldnt have been realistically signed as one example

This is why Tom Condon's (agent)2010 contract on Manning has been genius. It front loaded $90 to 2010-March 2013 for skill and injury fully . This gave Manning $60 in 2 years despite playing only one year. Because of the March 8th date for the $28m bonus , it meant decisions had to be made before the draft and free agency and they couldnt draft Luck and keep Manning as insurance as that $28m bonus was just too big. It also meant because Front office staff cant see Manning throw or evaluate him before April (its the CBA rules apparently) that Irsay has to **** or get off the pot . It forces him into a decision . It is a very loaded contract

Also Manning has been playing a blinder on the PR side ....the video from Duke may well have been leaked from Mannings side ...in other words...."i can play ....you are going to cut me and im going to come back and show you up " and Irsay tweets himself to death with far to much talking

Lets say in 2012 the Chiefs/Cards/Jets make a divisional round playoff spot or a Championship game (eminently possible with the Jets ) with Manning and the Colts having a patchy 5-11 season where Luck has to run for his life most Sundays like Sam Bradford in 2011 ....where the Running game again is no good, Reggie Wayne is gone and Dallas Clark is on one leg with an aging Freeney & Mathis ....what would Colts fans think then ?

You got to hand it to the Mannings ...they know what they are doing

Can't see Dalton being put in that list to be honest. He benefited from a soft schedule ( Besides Ravens/steelers twice) He looked average to below average in last 5 games of season. He also played poorly in the Texans play off game admittedly against a excellent Texans D but still.

Ryan/Flacco/Big Ben all had tougher routes to the play offs as rookies. Sanchez played slightly above average in a team with a pumped LT and a superb Defense. Now that both have started to age or leave the franchise we see the level that Sanchez is capable of . He could prove all his doubters wrong come next year. Maybe

Its funny Matt Miller from nflscouting.com who is a very good guy on college scouting mentioned something funny about Matt Ryan and RGIII

He said that in 10 years of scouting the college ranks for the draft ...only 2 QBs ever were scouted with the exact same score ...Matt Ryan and RGIII...he didnt mean anything by it only the level they are at leaving college...to be fair with his improvement from 2010 to 2011 and the mixture of intelligence, off-field character and athletic ability , RGIII has the higher ceiling

To be fair standing up for Dalton ...he looked very good for 2/3 of the season and has only 1 play-off game to judge him by. Matt Ryan has never had a good play-off game full stop and neither really has Flacco till this season .

Again to be fair to Flacco , he flew under the radar that year before the draft as he was from a smaller school Delaware and was drafted 26th i think when no-one said he'd make the first round. i think the likes of Roathlisberger was more ready straight away . Flacco had to play straight away ...its a bit like Christian Ponder ...in an ideal world or in 1993 he would have been a 2nd round pick ...even though Flacco may not have been quite prepared for it and he has came on slow but he had a pretty strong play-offs especially in the elimination game where he had a very strong game.

Unless Flacco regresses again i wouldnt include him in conversations with Sanchez. Flacco will soon probably sign an extension , if Manning is signed Sanchez will leave town , even a Garrard , Henne , Orton could be signed to pressure him to perform or to step in if he continues to falter.

Sanchez is most definitely on the bubble now and his first 6 weeks of the new season will be vital . Lets say Tannehill lasts say past Seattle in the draft and the Pass Rushers are gone (Coples, Ingram, Upshaw, Perry) and the Jets could pick Tannehill ???? could it make them think ??? Lets say Brandon Weedon is there at the Jets spot in the 2nd round could it make them think ???

I'd say the Jets are nowhere in the running for Manning mostly because of their financial situation.

    Forgot about this thread.

As I expected, Manning done with the Colts.
Peyton Manning's 14-year career as a member of the Indianapolis Colts is coming to an end.

Sources close to the team told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen that the announcement will come at a news conference in Indianapolis on Wednesday with both Manning and owner Jim Irsay in attendance.

Free Agency is going to be absolutely batshít insane next week. I can't wait!

Here'e to hoping this press conference will turn into signing a new contract!
From the second he is released, Peyton Manning is free to sign with another team.

Trent Dilfer saying that he expects Manning to land in Arizona or Denver. Can't see it with us tbh. What will really happen is that he'll land in Kansas and i'll shoot myself.

Why would you hope that a guy who could destroy all around him goes to one of your rivals?

Actually forget waiting for free agency, Manning will be free to sign for whoever he wants as of tomorrow as kmart quoted above. Could be sorted before FA starts this day next week.

    Also, no pressure Andrew...!

so sick of hearing about tebow that you'd rather watch us put up 10+ win seasons for the next 2-3 years and win a superbowl?

All i'll say is God help the AFC if manning lands in Kansas, it's the most complete team available to him

The Dolphins are a receiver away from being just as good, if not better than, the Chiefs. Bush has proved his capabilities as a lead runner and he's a serious passing weapon, Thomas still has potential and is a step above Thomas Jones or Jackie Battle who'd be the back-ups in Kansas City, Marshall would easily be the most complete receiver Manning would ever have had and the Dolphins defence has plenty of talent, typified by their second half of the season comeback last year. Either or would present Manning with a genuine shot at a ring if the owners play their cards right.

Ok so is it possible for him to be released and re-signed by the Colts? Basically in effect a re-structure of his contract.... way too much of a conspiracy I thinks!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 719 ✭✭✭neilster

As the article says they were confident of getting Jeff Fisher as well but Miami has a certain symmetry , they have an owner who will throw money around, Peyton has a home there , they have a reasonable defence , they just need a QB

Yes it is but very unlikely. If he was staying the could have agreed to delay his signing bonus while restructuring.

Seems that the realistic field for Manning is down to 4 teams max.

In order of possibility from what i have read from the various sites the rankings are

    1. Arizona
    2. Miami.
    3. Washington
    4. Kansas.

You have to love the possibility of Manning, Wayne and Fitzgerald on offense!!

Chiefs have far more offence talent than the Broncos, I thought that would have been obvious.

Journalists have consistantly said that there are teams that you wouldnt expect in both the RGIII and PManning sweepstakes .

What the draft has shown us with Locker/Ponder/Dalton all becoming higher draft picks than previously thought and moves like Carson Palmer & Kevin Kolb is that General Managers/Head Coaches have now linked directly their own job safety with large-scale moves with Quarterbacks. This means that there are more teams than these 4 considering moves . In the RGIII sweepstakes that must include despite what is protested publicly the Eagles , Jets , Jaguars & Denver along with Miami & Buffalo . They may not be sold on a move but they must be intrigued and a lot of this list must be running the rule on Peyton Manning even if they dont eventually follow through .

For instance look at these sobering statistics for the Jets , after getting to 2 Championship Games despite Sanchez his failings moved front and central last season .

"Sanchez has finished 29th, 29th and 27th in completion percentage in his first three seasons. His passer-rating rankings: 28th, 27th and 23rd."

He has taken a step back in yards per attempt each season from 6.7 to 6.5 to 6.4. Rex Ryan admitted that the inability to stretch the field was one of his primary concerns all year. Sanchez completed a league-worst two passes of 40-plus yards this season. By comparison, Tim Tebow completed three passes of at least 40 yards in the second quarter of the Broncos’ wild-card overtime win against the Steelers Sunday

Although Sanchez won four road playoff games in his first two seasons, some teammates remained critical, pointing to the successful rushing attack and defense as the key reasons for the Jets’ success in 2009 and 2010"

Now Hazys dismissed this notion because of cap concerns ....if they cut or trade Sanchez they lose some or all of Sanchez's $7.95 2012 salary as well as a $6m option bonus if he is not on the roster by March 17th . This makes it more feasible ...they can also trim the roster ....Bart Scott and others

I dont think the Jets are a front-runner on Manning both because of Manning ( the Jets have a 2010 Vikings feel about them , they need to be purged) and also cos i think Rex Ryan may try and redeem Sanchez in 2012 but the money is getting big for a game manager prone to mistakes and dont tell me they arent considering Manning ...this is business and Sanchez isnt taking care of his business and a hall-of-famer is coming available

Ok so is it possible for him to be released and re-signed by the Colts? Basically in effect a re-structure of his contract.... way too much of a conspiracy I thinks!

Why would Manning do this , they have purged the organisation of Jim Caldwell , the Polians , even his fitness coach , he may not like the look of the place .

A re-structure would be essentially a pay for play deal , which wouldnt lucrative with a No 1 draft pick waiting in the wings dying to play , in a way this would only serve to make the owner look well, i see no benefit for Manning

Adam Schefter has reported that despite Manning willing to sign an incentive-only contract (no guaranteed money) ...he wont have to ...he has reported that the presence of multiple suitors means that he will get significant guaranteed money with a significant portion designated to incentives still bringing it to $20m plus .

The Colts have a restructed-only contract really to offer ...so what is there to accept . You may say there are too many conspiracies but Jim Irsay will not pay a 36 yr old with neck injuries in his past and recovering at present $28m when he has a ready-made replacement of high calibre (maybe not Manning-calibre but high calibre). If Luck wasnt available there may have been a different outcome . This is very much "the king is dead , long live the king".

I will go one step further , if Manning was on track to come back , or was medically approved to return , this may well have still happened but Irsay will use the smokescreen of injury to the hilt .....the twaddle he has been pedalling on twitter is exhibit A, the guy is full of ****

For me this is it. A 28 million bonus + 4 neck surgeries + 36 years old + 1 Season off + #1 Draft Pick + the most highly rated QB in the Draft for decades = End of an era ushering in of a new one. The Packers done it under different circumstances and had Rodgers now look how that turned out, same might happen with Luck in 2 or 3 seasons could be in the SB hunt.
