We near the religous and feminists wanting to make buying sex illegal like in Sweden, but there is another way , the German way. As far as likes as Ruhama and certain feminists are concerned , no women can ever freely consent to have sex for money, even if she beleives she is making a free choice they would contend she is being forced. Of course most women do it out of drug addicition or extreme poverty but there is a sizeable minority who see it as an easy way of making big money and arent damaged by their "work" in same way many people work in porn industry getting paid for having sex with strangers.
What system would you like to see in Ireland?

None. Have you seen Irish hookers?

I wouldn't shag them if THEY paid ME!

It's a bit unfair to credit the Germans. The Netherlands have been taxing prostitution for years:D

    Versus this view

would make a good debate imo.

I absolutely agree. I can't see why pornography is legal but prostitution is not. Sex for money is sex for money whatever way you cut it.

Aren't marriages similar? Hubby goes out to work, gets paid. Wife shags him to get some of his money. Even if she works, she still wants more. All women are basically hookers. :)

Exactly! This is so true. Except for the women who don't get married. And the ones who do get married and are not hookers.

Rebuild the Monto and legalise coke so we can all go to the Monto for coke and hookers.

I think every man should have have to shag a hooker at least once. They all pay for it in some way anyway.

I like the new wave of trolls on boards. Not subtle but not so outrageous as to merit immediate banning.

In Ireland it is legal to receive payment for sex.

If you don't declare income you can be done for tax evasion.

So currently we do tax prostitution.

It's the soliciting and running a brothel etc. that is illegal.

You're straight and want to have sex with a straight man? How queer.....

I really don't know what to make of Ruhama at all.

People seriously ignore the fact that their board and funding comes via religious channels.

We all know what the sisters of the good shepard got up to the least time they tried to help "fallen women" and I fear just like the WRC on Dorest st they have an alternative motive but the are keeping the lefties on side by removing the religious aspect from their website and refusing to show where their funding comes from.

People need to get real, Sex workers need proper protection, its an industry that is never going to cease and pretending you can achieve some sex worker free utopia because you're religious or into a certain school of feminism needs to end before any real steps can be made.

I don't see why I should pay a prostitute tax when I don't use them, besides I am already creased with the bear tax.

    So is it 9%, 13.5% or 21%?

I'd imagine it would go under the 13.5% band... :pac:

I'm getting ridden by the taxman already so a prostitute tax is irrelevant.

Yes, there are also gay prositutes(m&f) and couples/double teams(m/m,m/f,f/f). Quite the lively industry.

I go to work Monday to Friday, my employer pays for my time whilst in work. Taxman taxes what my employer pays me.

Whats the difference in practice I am a prostitute as is everyone else working for a living, just a different industry thats all.

I am sick of the way the media keeps referring to Ruhama as an organisation of former prostitutes when this is (at best) not the full truth and whitewashes the fact that they are a pushing an hidden and dangerous agenda which has damn all to do with the protection of women in general nor prostitutes in particular.
