South Korea has buried 1.4million pigs alive after an outbreak of foot and mouth disease on the peninsula.
The controversial measure has been brought in after 115 cases of the disease were confirmed, originating in the city of Andong.
The country is also battling an outbreak of avian flu and recently raised its alert level to 'watch' after discovering the virus at poultry farms in four provinces.

i'm trying not to be a tree hugging hippy about this, but it seems very barbaric to me. if they have to slaughter the animals to prevent a pandemic then fair enough if it has to be done, but they could at least slaughter them before burying the poor little feckers.

Assuming they are burying them alive (the Daily Mail)... then that is bad form. Any possible reason to do it, other than a possible cost saving measure of not having pay for their slaughter? Bit bizarre.

Even little kids know that sick pigs can be cured (no pun intended) with oinkment. North Koreans don't have Christmas crackers, so they don't know this.
