the most disgusting neighbour kids ive ever seen

I have had the most stressful and confidence breaking weekend of my life. for 3 days, a gang of kids have been thrashing my garden, shouting abuse at me, and behaving like a pack of wild dogs.
I have to vent here or else im going to kill someone.

They have been kicking my hall door. ringing my bell constantly!!, throwing stones and sticks at my window, wrecking the stacks of bricks in the garden(for diy work) and basically living on my doorstep. Theres 2 girls and 3 guys, all under 15.

Today i couldnt take it anymore and rang the gardai..at 5:20, then again at 6, then AGAIN at 6:45, THEN AGAIN at 7:10. All the while, having my windows pummelled, the door kicked, the bricks smashed, the bell rung, insults hurdle at my house, my windows banged(so now i have to keep the curtains down all day).
The gardai promised to come after each call but took over 3 hours. I was so furious but so let down by the system. I dont know why i even bother to call them anymore. I have no idea what to do with these kids. I cant believe they just are able to keep doing this. No neighbour says anything to them, they tell me to just **** myself if i say anything to them and REFUSE to leave. The gardai after 3 long painful hours of ring and waiting and listening to my bell and windows told them to clear off, they actually stood there arguing with them for 10 mins. They left, the gardai told me that i have to call community police to deal with these "types" of problems. I pleaded with the gardai to talk to the kids parents(since they obviously wont tell me where they live)....so the gardai did absolutely nothing...they are just going to be in my garden tomoro when i get home from work and ill have to walk passed them in ****ing shame knowing i cant do a single thing to stop them.

The Gardai refused to go speak with thier parents. They were clearly not going to do anything as soon as they got here. Im so stressed by it.

The only thing I can suggest is to video everything they do. Keep a diary of everything they do also. The hard lads on the site here will tell you to get them on their own and give them a hiding but that will serve no purpose. Gather the evidence yourself as they guards dont have the manpower to watch you 24/7. Once you feel you have sufficient evidence present it to the guards.

    Sorry for your troubles.

Jesus, thats a right nightmare-I find that absolutely ridiculous that the gardai wont do anything about the situation-I suggest you secretly record them and produce this to the gardai the next time you call them

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,773 ✭✭✭Binomate

Surely the fact that they're trespassing on your property is enough for the Gardaí to get involved? Keep calling the Gardaí untill something is done. As Muletide says, gather your own evidence. Get them in the act on video or something.

There was a person in a similar position that posted on boards not that long ago and those involved kept a log and have video evidence. I hope it gets you somewhere and can't imagine the position you are in, sorry. Keep at the Gardai I'd say as well.

OP, do a search and you will find a similar thread in After Hours about two months ago. I believe the garda arrested a gang in one swoop and issue resolved. I'm not one for moaning about the gardai-it's a difficult job and they are underresourced. One good point is there will be 800 gardai graduating between now and December 2007 from Templemore.

There is also a Prime Time programme on www.rte.ie with similar cases to you.
Sorry, did a search of the site but can't find so I've no link.
    You might find it useful

On a lighter note, it's a pity you didn't raise this before the election. Your local Sinn Fein candidate could have the contacts to sort this ;)

Since you are a woman obviously living alone a few vicious dogs would help or a bat. What can I say, some people only understand violence.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 43,044 ✭✭✭✭Nevyn

Advocating violence on this forum will result in a banning.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,638 ✭✭✭bombidol

Violence obviously isnt the answer for this person because if it was it would have been the first resort. The scariest thing you can do to kids like that is to get a camera and when they do something, start taking pictures of them in the act. Gauranteed they wont show up again.

Do you know any of your (decent) neighbours? In fact even if you don't go round and ask for some help, its amazing what a collective show of strength can do in situations like this. The brats belive they are beyond rebuke as no-one has interveened, a serious talking to by a group bigger and stronger than them might be just the job. As for the Gardai - may I suggest you threaten to take matter into your own hands if they don't turn up smartish. They'll be round.

    Mike.

Keep a log of everything that happens, and get it witnessed.

What are the other residents like?, assuming these kids are local perhaps you can go door to door.

Record them secretly, as previous posters have recommended then present this to guards. They'll have to take action if you have evidence.

They're teenagers, they're going to get bored of it in a day or two.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,457 ✭✭✭✭Idbatterim

sometimes violence is the only thing they understand, i had an incident a few months back, sorted the guy out pretty quick (they are cowards, once they know you mean business they will usually back down), the good thing is i live in an area where there are very few scum and then they are only young. As you are a woman its different, you probably dont have many options, would you consider moving? are you living in a scum area or are they a minority? are you living in the country or dublin?

You could get one of those mosquito things they've been trying out to keep kids from loitering outside shops. It emits noise at a high frequency that is undetectable to anyone over the age of twenty. Teenagers apparently can't stand it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,457 ✭✭✭✭Idbatterim

you could get one of those devices they have started to put outside shops, it emits a high frequency wave that only young people can hear, its apparently very annoying, then again they may retaliate futher, you could also put up cctv on the house, either the real thing or a dummy, they wont know!

I do not want any advocation of violence on this forum. The next allusion, no matter how slight, will result in bans.

im not sure what the mods issue is, but id like to know if they have been in similar positions, because most people arent looking for trouble here, they are going about their lives and dont want hassle, these scum make people lives a misery, they are nothing but a waste on society, they expect everything and do nothing! The american model isnt actually all that bad, there should be some sort of fall back if you hit hard times, anyone can, but why should you get paid to claim the dole and every other benefit going your whole life? and contribute nothing to society! get this, my mums self employed, contributes tens of thousands to the government every year, pays PRSI and isnt even entiteled to dental care or free health care and every other allowance those scum take forgranted, what am i missing?

Get a camcorder, film them, do close-ups on their face's, etc, and then pop into the police one of the days. Unless you can ID them, with names, they can't do sh|t.

I agree with the Garden sprinklers suggestion. Just set them up and leave them running, making sure that they reach your front door step and cover as much of the garden as they can.

Also - ask other neighbours to help you out if they can.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,658 ✭✭✭✭Peyton Manning

dont leave them running, youll just flood your garden. instead, have a switch for them near the window. this way, when the young scum come up, you can turn them on and watch them run away like the fools that they are with immense pleasure.

The charter which contains the rules for this forum states that advocating violence will not be tolerated and those that do it will be banned.

I have been in that situation and decided to water my garden with water balloons.

You are also missing where in the charter that posting about moderators actions or decisions in the forum is off topic and should be done via pm with mod or in the feed back forum.

Off topic and unhelpful posting will get you banned from this forum.
Do read the rules which are in the charter
    Have a nice day.

    legs11 banned.

when did this start and have you any idea why they have isolated your house as a target?

I would say that the best thing to do is not to react to them at all. Unless there are some circumstances you haven't disclosed in this thread.. I would say kids get pretty bored if you don't react.

Film them, as a lot of people have suggested, this is the only way you will get reimbursed for any damages they inflict on your property.

You can invest in some short term measures as described in this thread. I would inform my local councillor and make an appointment to visit them and ask for their advice if this continues.

lol, read thaedydal's post #25, and look what legs11 follows it up with! :D

OP, in all seriousness, you need to be firm with these youngsters. Have u tried having a word with their parents? Are they targeting any other houses in the area?
