More testing than the Apollo program in the 60's, it's years been tested for a simple few hours a day channel. If only the local councils could adapt the same amount of time to the rubbish planning they have in each and every town in the country.

Title has just re-appeared on 22 - Tithe an Oireachtas with EPG data Programmes Return Monday at 9.00 and with the 2rn test card replaced with the Oireachtas TV logo

Hopefully it's full time from Monday and not another pilot transmission

It might only be to cover the recall of the Dáil to discuss Brexit.

Looks a bit more positive this time, channel name with a 5 day schedule of sorts (weekdays only it appears) and the MHEG generated off-air caption/slate has changed from 2rn to Oireachtas TV.

Title is stil "Tithe an Oireachtas" rather than "Oireachtas TV" which was used before on Saorview when it was broadcasting on a pilot basis

Just an update on this, the recently published minutes of the first meeting of the new Houses Commission on July 14th last reports that they gave approval for the signing of a contract with RTÉ to allow Oireachtas TV to be broadcast on the Saorview. No details of the contract was given.

COMMUNICATIONS AND BROADCASTING

The Commission granted approval for the signing of a contract with RTÉ to allow Oireachtas TV to be broadcast on the Saorview multiplex platform.

The Commission noted that access to the Saorview platform would significantly extend broadcast coverage of Oireachtas TV giving more than 98% coverage nationwide for the proceedings of the Houses and their Committees.

The Commission, in welcoming the development, asked that specific emphasis on promoting Oireachtas TV, such as advertising via traditional and social media, be included in the forthcoming Commission’s Communications Strategy in order to increase awareness of the availability of the channel among the wider public.

RTE is the multiplex contractor for all channels on Saorview, they in turn have a transmission contract with 2rn.

The Dept of Communication has published documents relating to RTÉ's proposal to launch the Oireachtas channel on Saorview. Ministerial approval was given on Jun 17th last.

It isn't, just a discussion on the Dept of Communication's documents which were published on their website in recent times.

In the Order of Business debate in the Seanad on Thursday a couple of Senators criticised RTÉ for their decision to outsource children's programming and the failure of 3 RTÉ Executive Board members who attended a Joint Committee on Communications meeting on Public Service Broadcasting on Tuesday last, including new DG Dee Forbes, to mention the decision during the committee debate.

One Senator in the Seanad debate also made reference to something Dee Forbes said during the committee discussion "an oblique reference to RTE's coverage of the Dáil and Seanad" including Oireachtas Report being moved over to digital streaming.

We also had an oblique reference to RTE's coverage of the Dáil and Seanad. We are giving it €180 million and it has a remit for public service broadcasting. I know it has very small viewing figures, but RTE gets €180 million to cover politics and the arts. At the committee meeting, the director general said one of her journalists was discussing moving coverage of this House, committees and the Dáil to the digital platform. Yesterday, I was critical of Deputy Dooley. However, he was the only one awake at the committee and picked up on it. That is clearly what was referred to at the committee. We are giving RTE €180 million to cover the arts and politics, and the new director general is talking about moving the coverage to the digital stream and using a journalist to quietly lobby for support around the House, and is meeting journalists on a regular basis.

Ministers are putting off decisions on the funding of public service broadcasting. We had a do-nothing Dáil and we now have a do-nothing Minister in this area. There are serious questions to be asked as to how RTE will nurture future broadcasting talent and over its oblique reference at the committee to how it will cover politics.

RTÉ later that evening issued a statement on Oireachtas coverage

In a statement tonight, RTÉ said it remains "committed to providing coverage of the Oireachtas as a key element of our public service remit.

"As part of ongoing reviews of our services, we are currently looking at the best ways of providing television and online coverage of the important work of the Oireachtas to the widest possible audience, particularly in the context of changing patterns of media consumption in Ireland."

Although not mentioned directly Dee Forbes reference to other digital environments (Committee playback 2:25:20) could be to the planned Saorview Connect hybrid service and making available the Oireachtas streams as virtual channels. A similar reference was made in RTÉ's Proposal document to the Dept of Communications on launching the Oireachtas TV channel on Saorview back in Feb 2005, which I posted about earlier this year. This wouldn't directly affect RTÉ coverage of the Oireachtas or Oireachtas Report. A good plan in my opinion but something the members of the Oireachtas are not aware of it appears resulting in them making inaccurate statements in the House.

This channel will be available in high quality digital broadcast format. As SAORVIEW advances with hybrid solutions in set top boxes bringing innovative functionality and interactivity, the Oireachtas TV service can be part of the content offering that will help bridge the digital divide.

The journalist referred to in Sen. Humphreys comments to the Seanad is Deirdre McCarthy, political assignments editor of RTE's Oireachtas unit.

Oireachtas report is shown first at 11.10 pm Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday evening's on RTE News Now and it does show a fair bit of live dail coverage as well
