Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    my bold
Just came across this thread - interesting. Tell me, do you mean TAM ring people up and ask them what they watch? Still not clear how they compile their viewer figures

It is explained earlier on in the tread. (sorry if that is a blunt answer, it is explained well, better than I could explain it).

The boxes that are uses are set with the schedules of 20 or so channels, the other channels do not have their schedules on the electronic box as they do not pay to be on the system, but their market share is ascertained as the channel is available on the electronic box.

This link gives you an outline of the panel that AGB Nielsen use http://www.agbnielsen.net/whereweare/dynPage.asp?lang=english&id=325&country=Ireland

TAM Ireland Ltd., is really just a chairperson who organizes the ratings with AGB Neilsen, TAM awards the contract on behalf of RTÉ, TV3, TG4, Sky, Channel 4 and a few others.

OK I would like some insight to this.

SyFy in their infinite wisdom, has changed their Stream schedule of all of their shows (like SGU, etc.) So that each show now streams 8 days after they are originally shown on SyFy Channel. Further to their infinite wisdom, and ive check the awl' schedule in the US anyway, they never repeat the airing of the newest episode until 1 hr before the newest episode, the following week.

So for example, if episode 2 of SGU aired on Friday at 9, it wouldnt be shown again till the following friday at 8, and then it wouldnt be available online until the next day (saturday)

Is this some kind of fcuked up ruse to completely foul up the +7 and DVR ratings? Are they just trying to bully people back into the prime time friday slot? Times have changed, maaan. I like, *do* stuff, on fridays.

While SyFy repeats an awful lot of programmes generally new shows don't get as many repeats during their first run I assume that SGU will eventually be repeated daily. As it is on a Friday night I am guessing that working in SyFy have things to do hence why the show isn't available on their website until saturday.

New shows often get the repeat just before the next episode, E4 did this with Smallville and many other shows in the past. I always liked it as an Idea.

The next question is I thought that Sky 1 broadcast SGU on this side of the Atlantic.

Also as both Sky 1 and SyFy are pay TV they don't care too much about audience since your cable/Sat sub also give them some money.

it seems like a silly move, with ratings in decline

I think it's a particularly rubbish idea. If someone is busy every friday night then they haven't a hope of watching the show in this case. Even if they're doing something two fridays in a row then they're missing some episodes.

    True.

Smallville was on a Thursday every 2 weeks for me :) . Anyway SyFy is a cable service.

SGU was bound to get a high viewing figures at the start since it is a spin off of a hit show, then it drops and levels off for the rest of the season.

SyFy possible had very good ratings for the first episode of Caprica, until the audience realized how dull it was. How is Caprica doing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 85,042 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

I stopped watching Caprica. Actually because I found it particularly mellowdrum.

But the point remains, you play it once in 8 days, ratings are going to drop. It bewilders the mind on both hemispheres.

Over repeat it and the premiere episode also sees a drop. If you repeat shows everyday of the week for a week, the audience will just watch on what ever day suits them, more than likely your going get same total audience across the week with a few extra repeat viewers, your advertising impact is just as good for that show, but what about the rest of your schedule. At least that is how I would see it.

What other channels are planning to show the series? It could also be a rights issue.

Dunno why RTE/TV3 don't make the ratings as public as they are in the UK

    Barb is a great website.

www.medialive.ie you have to sign up, it is free but they give you the weekly top 20s for 1, 2 and 3 while TG4 provide their ratings on their website.

    The info is available.

It is hard to say with Aifric as it was a tweeny type TV airing before 7pm. They seem to repeat it enough so I would say that for the PONC time slot it does well for them. AFAIR it did quite well when it aired during 8:30 one summer.

I think it's time for a new system of monitoring ratings. They're just too inaccurate for me.

It should be that all cable companies keep a ratings tally of what all users are actually watching, rather than picking select households to keep a journal.

It is called privacy people don't like being watched. They have introduced a new system which takes into account recorded live viewers

Also you have to remember that only 70% of people have Pay TV so they would never be counted.

1000 viewers in any statistic is enough for good results just because you might think it unbelievable that 400,000 people watch coronation street doesn't mean it doesn't happen. IMO people watch allot of crap. I know I do :o

Yeah, but there are ways that user data can be compiled anonymously.

:( It's just unfortunate because I hate the Neilson ratings system... it's totally flawed and inaccurate.

Still can't believe that we still don't have a proper website/page that shows TV ratings daily, just like digitalspy have over in UK.

What's the secrecy of TV ratings, and why aren't they revealed to the public?

I don't think I've seen any ratings for 3e since it started/relaunched 2 years ago.

There is nothing secretive about the ratings.

A new site but not much more info www.tamireland.ie weekly updates, when they do update them.

3e has being doing alright. Sport has been a significant addition to that service. It still ranges from 0.9 - 1.5% share meaning its tops shows get from 20,000 - 60,000. As it become more available it will pick up more audience how ever I would be surprised to see it have more than 2%.

    www.medialive.ie

Daily ratings aren't a full picture both RTÉ and TV3 have released them on occasion when they have had high viewing figures. While TG4 still provide their weekly ratings. While the RTÉ guide give a top twenty for 1 + 2 and TVnow gives top 10s each week.

    Thanks Elmo,

Yeah I've been using medialive for years. It's been a great site for ratings over the last 10 years. And TV Now used to have the top 20, but recently have gone back to top 10.

But what comes with top 20 ratings is just soaps and reality TV etc most of the time. I'd love to see what ratings channels get in afternoon, morning and after midnight shows get.

Couldn't find any ratings on tamireland.ie

Where can I find Late Late Show figures? Online that is.

Or could someone with access do up a comparison between now and this time last year?

    Thanks.

His ratings haven't come down that much at all when you consider that September figures will always be higher becuase of the start of season enthusiasm.

I am going to disappoint you even further. The ratings only represent those watching TV at anyone time and 1 in 6 would take into consideration the whole population including those not watching. Not only that but the rating provided by medialive are for adults only, not counting kids watching with parents etc. In reality he has nearly at 50% share of the viewing audience which means 3 in 6 are watching if they are watching the TV.
