Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have to say, i find myself listening to this programme more regularly than i thought i would . D Harvey seems to have somewhat similar opinions to myself, and that really makes a change from the crap that joe duffy usually spouts

What sort of opinions do you mean?

Well the "SH1T stirrer" at it again.... talking to a guy who is explaining about his mum suffering from hypothermia, and he has to bring in the people from eastern Europe & Nigeria.

He reads a text from a listener claiming that Nigerians get extra payments "to keep them warm", and then he adds to this "crap" by saying they need it because they are used to being warm "in the jungle".... Then refers to this country, that in the near future we will have loads of east european "spungers"........................

Cancelling television licences and effin this and effin that

A new low was reached yesterday with the tripe that David Harvey was spouting. He is a right wing narrow minded snob.

Mitch Hedberg: "Rice is great if you're really hungry and want to eat two thousand of something."

well at least hes a bit more topical and not afraid of heated debate on his show unlike the champagne and caviar socialist man of the people over on rte1.

Well you obviously weren't listening yesterday, great show about abortion, the issue of the moment, that he handled well, whereas the Harvey show is aimed at cnuts who find The Sun too intellectually challenging.

And the Niall Boylan show is any different ?

Wasn't a huge fan but at least it offered an option to RTE at lunch hour.

4FM is now a far cry from its promised 30% news content

I'm shocked. Niall Boylan was standing in for David on Friday, and said David would be back on today.

There's surely a gap in the market for to a talk show between 1-3pm, though? Not much competition to Joe Duffy.

Maybe if they replaced Harvey, and changed the show's format e.g. instead of taking about the same topic for 2 hours, change the subjects as the show progresses.

I didn't mind Harvey myself, but can seemingly a lot of people didn't take to him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,477 ✭✭✭Hootanany

I can't see them making more money from ads with the dross playlist that will replace it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,353 ✭✭✭Galway K9

how do people know its scrapped?

I know he was holidays and others were covering for him, but not on at all anymore.

Anyone have a link to an official annoucement?

It's been removed from the schedule on the web site, with two programmes extended and one moved to an earlier start time to replace it.

The only 'announcement' was a statement from the station PD, which is quoted here.

Further proof if it were needed that 4FM continue to be in trouble. Removing Harvey will save them a substantial wage because neither Robbie nor Gareth will get any extra for doing a extra hour each. . The vast majority of people looking for talk radio between 1 and 3 pm would turn to joe duffy rather than 4 fm so Harvey's audience would have been negligible anyway no matter what he did. Financial reasons would have been the main reason for this latest change. Again i'll repeat, 4FM could have 20% share in cork and Limerick, without Dublin where they are on 1% at best, they are doomed, its a question of when the money finally runs out.

I presume you mean O Brien ? Well he already has a few stinkers in his radio closet including 98 fm and phantom but its unlikely he'd be allowed to buy another in the form of a quasi national from the point of view of competition within the sector in terms of owenership.

Gareth isn't doing an extra hour, Suzanne Kane is. Gareth's show just moved to start 1 hour earlier.

where does that leave 4FMs news quota? As for the popularity of Harvey's Show, I think JNLRs show otherwise and how much more talking at people can we take on the airwaves around lunchtime. Life is tough for 4, but they're gradually getting there

It seems your mad conspiracy theory was wrong and Harvey was away doing private work and is back doing the show since last month...... God you really were so far off the mark on that and you were so sure you knew it all....... Maybe you should rethink your theories on Irish Radio and your future in it, that is indeed if anybody would give you a job in it because after all you have practically told every station that you know better than they do about how to run their ship...... It's quiet odd that you come across as having some semblance of intelligence and knowledge of the industry but yet you get it so wrong every time:-):-).........give us your next prediction , as I could do with a good laugh.

What kind of retarded radio station would replace a talk show with wall to wall music for several months because the the host was away doing "private work"?

You seem more interested in attacking my views on radio than dealing with issues I raise regarding 4fm's abject failure to make an impression in Dublin. How can I have a semblance of intelligence while simultaneously getting everything wrong? My prediction stands, without Dublin, 4 is on life support. The only other station who would have the audacity to allow one of their presenters time off for the reason given is lyric in the context of gaybo, and believe me Harvey is no gay byrne. 4fm need to deliver a consistent product, giving Harvey time off in the manner they did robs a station of consistency and cheats the listener. A case in point is 98fm, dermot and dave were almost number one in breakfast then they moved to drive and the station is still adjusting because listeners detest disruption. 4fm need to consolidate what they have beyond their current fragility in dublin rather than indulge individual presenters by allowing them go on sabbatical.

I attacked his/her views because they are so negative towards everything radio related, to the point of becoming bitter.

Hey baby I have made no secret of the fact that I defend 4fm from vindictive people like you. ............ What's your point .......David Harvey is a professional and you have a pop at him as well ....what is wrong with you?

I didnt realise you took such an avid interest in what I have to say. My interest doesnt merely extend to one radio station and primarily one show, namely the Niall Boylan show, which the majority of your posts actually refer to. Harvey's been in the business a long time, that doesnt mean to say he's particularly good or that I should automatically be a fan, by thats my opinion. You seem hung up on my being negative, you clearly ignored the positive posts I've made about Matt cooper, Jonathan Healy, Gay Byrne, phil cawley, Dermot and Dave, the improving Louise Duffy, the necessity to have more women on air etc etc This is a radio related forum which allows contributors to offer opinons, be they of a positive or negative disposition, at no point are my opinions meant to offend or be construed as fact, they are only my opinion.

To use the word 'vindictive', is a tad OTT , and to ask me whats wrong with me, purely because I dont share your opinions on radio matters is also more than a tad OTT.
