One thing - Con Air is NOT a crap film. It might be over the top and ridiculous, but it's an action movie ffs and it's entertaining as hell.

Really p!sses me off when people go on about movies like Con Air, being crap.

A crap movie would be something like 'Gigli' or Scary Movie 27.

Good call, thought of Con Air when I read the title. Any time I see it in the listings I laugh "Con Air, what a pile of crap" and end up watching it.

By that definition, YOU think it's good even though, critically, it may not be. So where do you draw the line with that?

You could end up saying this about most films - ''load of rubbish, but I like it''. Makes no sense to me. :o

    American Pie: Beta House
I know its crap yet I find it hilarious!

Also Con Air is a masterpiece, with a great cast, a great soundtrack, a good plot line and filled with cracking stunts. I love it!

    Face Off:

It has a decent cast but the storyline is ridiculous. Having said that, it's bloody good fun. Would definitely be in my top 10 action films.

Chuck Norris movies during the 80's were crap like The Delta Force & Invasion USA.

Crap, but funny, entertaining crap all the same.

Has to be 'Showgirls'. It's terrible, but also just so, so good. Some of the dialogue is just some of the funniest sh*t I've ever heard, not to mention what has to be one of the most ridiculously manic sex scenes of all time. I actually think it's one of my favourite films. Great movie to get drunk to.

+1 on this. Some of the best 'worst' quotes ever in this film. It's so bad it's brilliant. How he manages to avoid getting shot by over a 100 men yet killing them all is only ridiculous. Think i might watch this now:D

National Treasure - Its not exactly a masterpiece, but I found it thoroughly entertaining, and seemed to be made solely to cash in on the da vinci code love in.

This film contains my favourite come back line of all time (for the exact reason this thread was created, it's so bad it's genius).

Con Air is a definate one, sheer genius, it transcends its crappiness, its a work of the sublime. Ditto for Your Highness, Face Off (visual art in motion with the doves, the slow-mo, the golden guns, the superb performances from Cage and Travolta). Road Trip is one of the defining films of my life, I saw it on TV just before I went to college, for me its the definitive college/road trip film, Tom Green is legendary in it. Strangely enough I think these are films which would initially be perceived as crap but are anything but upon closer inspection, they simply eschew the conventions people expect from sensibly great films, but that doesn't make them crap, oh no! You see they take the elements outside of these conventions and weave them together into beautiful tapestries of filmic production and they're unforgettable because of it. Its why film like Evil Dead will forever be a great film in my mind it has more imagination, charm and fun than a film made to be considered a worthy piece of art but which lacks soul, and I applaud filmmakers who have the daring to go against what the mainstream expects. A genuinely crap film which is great is Hercules in New York, I really want to watch this.

Independence Day, it's complete cheese from start to finish with some shocking acting (mainly Bill Pullman) but I will watch it every night of the week if it is on.

"You're a funny guy, Sully. I'll kill you last!"

Quote is not exact, but close. I saw this in the cinema years ago. Loved it. But it really is very, very bad indeed. And why does h keep calling his daughter "Chenny"? The name is "Jenny"!

I actually enjoyed White Chicks. It is a truly awful film but I ended up enjoying it somehow (Terry Cruz was awesome in it I suppose)

I wouldn't include Con Air in this. It's quality.

I would count Independence Day though and that would get my vote. I love losing myself in that film for a couple of hours.

I 'AVE GOTTA GET ME ONE A'DESE!

Lot of commando bashing going on in here, i wont stand for it. Great movie, all time classic.

    and sooooo many more.

An honourable mention for Fatal Deviation.

A serious case of, it's so bad it's good. Irish martial arts film with crap dialogue, rubbish acting and best of all, Boyzone's Mikey Graham. :pac:

    Freddy vs. Jason.

Apart from the terrible acting, the special effects are ridiculous.

Anytime someone gets cut the blood sprays out of their body.
Also when ever the killer aqppears Nine inch nails starts playing...

    The cheese is delicious.

you might have found independance day cheesy but i seriously doubt that was intentional on the part of the makers , independance day IMO is humourless and incredibly dull despite the enormous budget and special effects

    Demolition Man

"Send a maniac to catch a maniac"

Demolition Man is a classic so many quotes from it, this for me does not fall under the crap film category but in line with Commando there both classics, proper 80,s to early ninety action flicks did exactly what they said on the tin, pleny of explosions and quotable lines they were never meant to be oscar winners just pure fun.

For me a film that falls under the category of crap but I still like it is something like Little Nicky.

    Commando is enjoyable but Muck.

    "Let off some steam Bennett!"

it has the biggest miss match of a climatic cinema fight ever. in the red corner we have arnie who is built like a brick **** house and in the blue corner we have a fat ****er with a moustache that looks like a member of the y.m.c.a

I watched it again a few weeks ago: better than I remembered. I thought that Nomi did that OTT sex thing on purpose. It could be interpreted as a version of the lap dance she had given him in the club, i.e. it was business, not personal, like porn.

My first choice of "crap" movie: Miss Congeniality. If you don't like a joke, don't worry, there'll be more along in a minute. :p

Death has this much to be said for it:
You don’t have to get out of bed for it.
    Wherever you happen to be
    They bring it to you—free.

Troll 2 is one for the ages. It's just so horrifically bad that I cant help but think the crew gave up half way through and just made it into a slapstick comedy.
I also love the Wicker Man remake starring Nic Cage. Cage is just so over the top and mental that the whole thing just becomes a weird parody of the original.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,997 ✭✭✭Grimebox

The National Treasure series is so bad its hilarious. I remember watching one of these in the cinema after having a smoke and laughing my ass off the whole way through.

    MV5BMTU2NTM3NjU1N15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwODg1MDU1MQ@@._V1._SY317_.jpg

I'd argue Nicolas Cage is a fantastic actor. His good films are good (Leaving Las Vegas, Bad Lieutenant) and his bad films are brilliant if you're in the mood (Wicker Man, National Treasure)

I adore ****e films, the type that are just so awful that even the cast seem to know it, making them have more fun with the whole thing.

My top two, because I can't pick one over the other, would be McBain (Christopher Walken shoots down a plane with a handgun while flying another plane! And the bullet does not smash the windows of either cockpit! Plus let's not forget the scene where a rebel pours her hearth out about her problems and seeing her friends and family die, only for Walkin to compare it to Woodstock!) and The Incredble Melting Man. TIMM has easily the worse acting I have seen in a film, it's a joy to actually watch these people die! The special effects were quite ahead of their time but good God they were wasted on a horrible film that I adore :D
