Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi Chorcai,
Not talking about u! Anyhow he got through to admissions and they said that they had no places to offer people on the waiting list as all places had been taken at earlier rounds. U just never know huh. He had accepted DIT anyway. Best of luck!

if it's any consolation, I've done 2 notebook pages... gahhhh

Its so nice to hear im not the only one not doing much. To be honest i don’t think this brief is a big deal. All i will do is gather few ideas and photograph them, i think its about the ideas and we will do the actual work in the college. Not sure though, what do you think? Should i be worried?

I think the way it's phrased, is that 5 photos need to be submitted as the finished thing. but you're supposed to a good bit of drawing/research of the objects aswell.

With that said. Going into detail on 30 items seems a bit much..

I'm just wondering how everyone thinks we should go about it?

if you're applying to NCAD and you do not have the equivalent of a first year art degree course done already, you must complete the brief and apply to 1st year general at ncad. That means your portfolio has to show all your skills and follow the brief. after first year they THEN divide people and you work towards getting into fashion in first year. You can only apply directly to 2nd year fashion with the nesessary education behind you. Hope that clears things up.

How much work is it to put a portfolio together? Is it possible to start it now and have it ready in time? Is NCAD particularly difficult to get into?

Vague questions but if anybody can offer any info t'would be great!

It's not about the time as much as its about knowing what they're looking for other than technical skill or what's being asked for in the brief.

If it helps I would advise to leave out fan art, anything that is very secondary school art project and go to some exhibitions read the statements and do sketchbook work at them (or find contemporary artists online through visual artists ireland if you draw study their approach and so on) if you can show some kind of understanding conceptual or aesthetically for current visual arts practice's someone might just give you a chance for the potential that shows.

Its been a long time since I did a portfolio before any briefs were around (but don't do anything really obvious for a brief but show you can follow one) I remember having 10-15 a1 sheets and 10 notebooks I put it together from 4 years of work in a week got into my course with the skin of my teeth but went on to do well, so just goes to show how silly the portfolio can be.

If I had a few months and a brief I think it would be easily do able with focus and commitment :)

It's a lot of work and IMO It takes time to build up a portfolio of the level of quality that they are looking for.

Are you trying to study at the same time? Because that will be tough, just to warn you.
If not - then It's possible. But You would be looking at a few hours a day. Not trying to scare you but you would have to commit wholeheartedly to it. Saa's advice above is good for starters.

make sure to do work on both natural and manmade objects
and use the brief, but as saa said, don't do the expected thing, whatever u do

I would suggest getting some help if you can.

I started mine in the summer of 5th year.
PM me if you want and I'll try and give you a hand

I have just one page left of my portfolio :D Getting it in there early because I'm actually living in Dubai (though I'm Irish). Sending it in about 2 weeks. I've put so much work into it, I just really hope I get in!!! Though my worry is that I only have one notebook :/ do you think that's bad?

So nerving to wait for a month after they take week to review your portfolio.

I'm guessing they are going to wait till the very last day of the month to notify anyone!

Has anyone received an acceptance letter yet? Perhaps they started sending them out?

  • Registered Users Posts: 32 Rosie30

They posted them today and posting more tmoro! Was on to admissions. The waiting will end...Good luck everyone ;)!!!!

What if the letter got lost in the post? Is there an online directory or something to verify an acceptance?

So I got in to NCAD and will be starting in September. Wondering if anyone's interested in receiving some help? I need a summer job to pay for all the materials now :D

I can at least get people started and answer questions, give advice from what I've heard and what I've experienced, then when summer's up people can continue on their own or if they're really stuck I could continue helping them.

Before I start advertising or figuring out times and whatnot I was going to check here for interest and probably cross-post to the Leaving Cert forum too. I know a teacher who's giving them for around €300 weekly after school (with a group) so I was thinking of doing them individually for €5-€10 for an hour or two.

    Any takers?

Has anybody got a catalogue of NCAD product/industrial design show of 2013? I live in Dublin, so PM me if you have it. I would greatly appreciate this. Also, if there is a web link, that would be fantastic.

    Thanks!

Mod note - I don't think it is getting the response desired and instead is coming across as an advert. I understand that this was not your intention OP, but to avoid having other threads pop up with the same intention, I have to lock this.

If anyone wants to give you feedback, they can do so via PM.
    Thread closed.

Yep I think it's kinda like another section C from the portfolio, except it becomes the basis for your first project....apparently we have to hang them up on the first day to see each others work
