Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. As I said above I just got this and I came from UTV's 7 meg line which I have a Belkin N wireless ASDL router for.

The problem I have now with UPC is if I have a torrent program running or watching something through Sopcast I cant browse the internet where before I could do all 3 at the same time.

Before I got the Belkin router I had the standard modem from UTV wired direct to the desktop and always had the same problem as above which I thought was normal until I got the Belkin router.

Is this normal with the EPC2425? Is there a way to fix this?

No probs It would be up to UPC to provide the booster for you after all it's their cable and modem/Digital Box that the issue is, I would ring them and ask them to provide the solution rather then getting you to buy a signal booster that might or might not work. Let us know how you get on, maybe the next engineer they send out will be a bit more helpful and will sort the issue out, insist to them on the phone and when the engineer calls that UPC need to fix the issue to provide the service your paying for.

Again, thanks for the help. Last time they came by they insisted that the internet does not work because my signal in the house is to weak. After they left, I decided to change the router positioning in the house. They told me that were it was connected the signal was to weak, so i connected it to the main cable that enters my house. The quality/ uptime improved, but as you can see I still have issues. Unfortunately, I called them but they told me that the signal booster needs to be brought (100 euros). I don't want to pay for something that might or might not work as you said. I'll give it another shot and maybe convince then to bring one for, lets say, 1 week of testing. After that I can make my decisions if its worth buying it.

OK sorted the issue out. Turned on UPNP in Set up -> advanced settings -> Options and turned off the Firewall and IP Flood Control in Set Up -> Firewall -> Options.

when i got the 30mb connection the guy from UPC tested my old cable and said it was not gonna be good enough to get 30Mb/s... so then he pulled out (with a lil help from me) the old cable line and put in a new line going from the house to the box in the footpath out on the street.

he even put in a second new cable line for me leading out to the office to the rear of the house.

the only extra cost he charged us was for the extra cable.

i average 24Mb/s now up from a paltry 6Mb/s before he upgraded the cables.

Streaming is now working too. Set the EPC2425 to bridge, wired it into the PS3, then plugged in the Belkin N ADSL router and now the wireless laptop talks to the wired PS3.

Also getting 29 meg today

I've just come across your comprehensive post on this modem/router, for which many thanks. I've been trying for ages to get media streaming on my internet radio (Pure Evoke Flow - WiFi only) working but take it from your post that this is not possible with this modem/router except by using it as a bridge and losing the telephone function?

Why can't you use the EPC2425 wifi connection to connect up your Wifi-Radio?

But, lets say you cannot use the EPC2425 wifi connection, you could just use the DMZ method and use an alternative 'good' wifi/router jobie and still keep the phone functionality of the EPC2425

Thanks for the post.
I recently moved to UPC's tv/phone/broadband package and have one problem. The Cisco EPC2425 router supplied by UPC does not recognise any media server (WMP11's, Twonkey etc) so I am unable to stream music from my PC's hard disk to my Pure Evoke Flow (PEF) internet radio. The PEF connects wirelessly to the internet using the EPC2425 and its internet radio function works perfectly. However when set to 'Media Player' the PEF reports 'No servers found'. I've checked settings with Pure who say the problem must be with the EPC2425. UPC and their premium service advisors have no solution. If I reconnect an old Netgear box I get media streaming and internet radio perfectly. There must be a solution, any suggestions gratefully received!
I am not sure how to configure the DMZ function and in any case thought
that such a set-up would interfere with the EPC2425 phone function?

Just tested speed downloading some legal torrents and got a steady 3.2 megs a second rising to 3.4 intermittently. Nice!

Hi all just recently i've started having problems with the wireless on my router. This afternoon when i came home i tried to connect to the router with my iphone but it wouldnt show up in the wireless network list. I restarted the router and tried again, the network showed up but each time i tried to select it the message "cannot connect to network" would appear. I tried on my Windows 7 PC and a similar message appeared. After about 10 or 11 resets of the router the wireless finally started working but speeds are kind of slow..is the router faulty or is it easily fixable?

Would appreciate an answer soon!

The cable guy never could find our "pipe" coming into the house, so he just had to assume the cable infrastructure to and in the house was sound, which it's not as the downstairs UPC outlet doesn't work ( upstairs does ), anyway...

I have intermittent high ping problems noticeable when gaming online I seem to time out and lag a lot at times and more often than not I'm ~40ms ping at best and ~500ms at worst.

Could we compare transmit and receive db please as I think there's a dodgy or partial wired connection fault in my service?

Your receive power level is +12, if anything your signal is too strong!

My receive power level is usually between +/- 0 and +3 and my current upstream power level is +45.2. These levels are fine in my experience.

I just ordered UPC BB today (20 meg with phone) and after reading this thread am a bit worried!! Will they supply the Thomson router if I'm willing to pay the extra €80? Alternatively what are the chances of them supplying a 2203 if I ask nicely? Is the 2203 automatically supplied with the 10meg package? If so maybe I'll go for that and upgrade later.

I signed up for 8 meg back in October and got a 2203, the 2425 is considered a paid upgrade. It seems that even with the speed increase this remains the case.

I am at the end of my tether with this . downloads are fine and fast. But the internet explorer is just slow and actually drops the whole line.

I cant even use adverts as there are too many pictures loading up. I have used all the tips from this forum changing the DNS etc ... But its 50 / 50 (thats being generous) weather or not a web page loads. If there are pictures on it , i am screwed .

UPC phoned to say they can install my 20/1.5 meg BB on Wednesday. Asked could I have the wired modem and she said no problem Now all I have to do is find a wireless N router that I can flash with dd-wrt - any suggestions? Bearing in mind I'll have to buy it in a bricks and mortar shop before Wednesday!

hi guys,

dont know what im doing wrong here but ive followed numerous guides from these boards trying to get my EPC2425 set up in bridging mode to let my dd-wrt router do the real work.

before i do any of this i setup a static ip address on my wired interface to 192.168.1.100, i do everything else using wired interface

Here is what i have done

1 - setup the EPC2425 (192.168.100.1 ) setup tab -> gateway mode -> set to bridge
2 - plugin the ethernet cable on the EPC2425 into one of the 4 ethernet ports on the back.
3 - plug the other end of the cable into the WAN port on the dd-wrt router
4 - now on the dd-wrt Setup -> Basic Setup -> Wan Connection Type -> Disabled
5 - Network Setup , Router setup as below
router ip - 192.168.1.2

subnet mask - 255.255.255.0

gateway - 192.168.1.1

localDNS - 192.168.1.1

5 - WAN port -> Assign WAN Port to Switch -> checked
6 - DHCP enabled
7 - dns servers - 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
8 - Setup -> advanced routing -> Operating Mode = Router

ive played around with these settings somewhat but i think i am missing the right combination. Can anyone shed some light or does anyone else have this working with a EP2425 and DD-WRT setup?

New UPC customer so apologies if this has been answered before.
I stream most of my media so would be interested in hooking up a wireless N router to my cisco one.
I have a tenda wireless N but its for DSL, I assume I could still use it via ethernet from the cisco to the tenda?
I also have 2 homeplugs 200mbps.
What would be the best way to improve the wireless signal/strength given my setup.

I am on the 20mb package with phone.

I'm no expert but afaik you won't be able to use your existing modem/router. The Ethernet ports on your router just distribute the broadband signal to other device on your network. The actual broadband signal enters the modem via the DSL (phone) socket. So you'll have to get a new router (often called cable routers). I'm actually in the same boat getting 20/1.5 with phone on Wednesday and have asked for wired modem for reason below.

Also bear in mind that if you have your phone with UPC you'll loose this when you hook up your new router (see first post on this thread). There is a way around this but I think it means loosing your hardware firewall (not 100% sure about this though).

I might try the homeplugs and see if they improve things.
When I stream to my ipad using zumocast all is fine and when I watch the sky sports app its fine aswell, its just the ps3 media server thats stuttering.

i have the cisco router working with the dd-wrt router
looking at your setup your default gateway on the dd-wrt router is wrong u need to specify the cisco router's LAN address (192.168.100.1) and local dns on the cisco router should be blank (upc will put one in automatically)

also on the cisco router u need to disable dhcp mode and wireless mode
set the dd-wrt router to do dhcp and wireless to avoid ip conflicts and primary dns to 8.8.8.8 and secondary to 8.8.4.4.

Having the PS3 Wired instead of the PC (PC/Laptop being wireless) will solve the stuttering problems........and its awesome!!!

i have a 20Mbit wifi connection over EPC2425 router. I am only getting about 10-14Mbit downstream throughout the day. Lines in my area are relatively new (about 2 years). I was getting close to 15Mbit before i was upgraded from 15mbit to 20 mbit. i am getting about 25-35 ping, pingtest reads line quality as class B. IP flooding is off. Is there anything i can do to improve this speed so it would be closer to what we're being charged?

Is it Speettest you use to measure speed? It can be hit or miss. I'm on a 30meg line and it will read 22-27meg on speedtest, Torrents will level at 32 but can reach 34meg!!!

Well got my 20 meg fibre broadband and phone installed yesterday. Installer phoned beforehand and arrived about 9.20. Whole job took about half an hour. I had requested a wired modem but he didn't know anything about it. Luckily he had one in the van - he seemed a bit puzzled as to why I was turning down a free wireless router:)

Anyway I hooked my Linksys WRT54 v 1.1 wireless router running tomato firmware (bought on adverts.ie) and was good to go. Initially was a bit concerned about less than smooth streaming from youtube, RTE player etc. Finally figured out that my wireless channel was wrong - once I reset it to the same channel as my old router everything has been running silky smooth.

Finally a big thanks to everyone on this thread for steering me clear of the EPC2425. Would highly recommend Tomato firmware - great to have Bandwidth monitoring etc.

Having two issues at the moment which I would appreciate help with:

1) The connection (not the wireless, I'm using a separate router for wireless/DCHP) drops at unevenly spaced intervals. Using the Cisco router if that helps. Have tried powercycling, rebooting etc to no avail. Should I just keep powercycling until it resolves itself? It was initially brought on by my wife unplugging the router overnight a few days ago, up till that point was perfectly stable for months.

Hello everyone,

I think this post is in the right thread, but if not moderators please move.

I not good with technology and I need some help and advice.

At home we have eircom broadband from landline in to router distributed then to wireless around the house.

This is the problem, we getting a second laptop, but we cannot remember the password for the broadband. My laptop picks up the connection straight away so it was not needed to be typed in every time. The new laptop will have to have the access code to connect to the broadband the first time yes? How can you figure out what this code is? Would this password be on my laptop somewhere or would Eircom be able to tell us?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

If you turn off the new laptop's wireless and use an ethernet cable to connect to the router, in your web browser type: 192.168.1.254. As far as i remember thats the router address. if you go into expert mode and look around the code should be in there somewhere. Not sure where it is anymore since moving to UPC.

Under Basic settings Click network configuration
Primary DNS(static)
Secondary DNS(static)

Check the primary and secondary DNS here and make sure there is all 0's in the field...If the reboot caused ths to assign static then this could be you issue...Replace any values with 0's and apply...Modem will reboot and all should be ok...

Hi all,

We just signed up for the "Fibre Starter Pack" with UPC (so, phone, TV and 20Mb broadband) and while the phone line and TV is fine (with slightly off-colour picture), the Cisco router has no connection. I can connect wirelessly fine and when I hook up a CAT5 cable I can get to the admin page fine also.

But there is no upstream connection. Also when I try to get into the admin settings (last two tabs on the right) I am (as expected greeted with a login prompt), but have tried every permutation of username - admin/Administrator (or even leaving it blank) and password - admin/Administrator/Password and blank - nothing gets me in.

When I called UPC Self-Starter Support last night the guy got me to power off the router for a minute. He put me on hold "for a minte" and after 15 minutes had not come back to me so I hung up. Frustration...

So any ideas? (Thanks in advance!)

Have you disabled the Ip flood and the firewall protection?

Are you having the same issue cabled and wireless?

Dermo is it the new laptop or the original laptop to connect to the router with the ethernal cable. It a Motorola Netopia Router, With the laptop that can connect to the Eircom Broadband, I went to the default address and saw where the password was typed; it is there as dot dot dot, 8 dots, the character are not shown.

Does anybody know, with this router when selecting the password, do you have to have a Capital, number and letter, or can you just use all small letters?
How many attempts would you have at typing in the password?

Ip flood is disabled. Firewall isn't. Wireless is through a separate router which is connected via Ethernet. Same problems exist if I enable wireless on the Ciso modem and use that instead.

I'll try disabling the firewall.

Sounds like you have 4 issues.

1: DNS issue
2: Firewall Issue
3: interference on wireless
4: Issue with signal levels

1: The DNS is defined by watever device the computer is connected 2...If you are using a seperate router you will need to log into this and check to make sure the DNS is set to Dynamic...Try using Open DNS or Google DNS.

2: Once the firewall on the router(same place where IP Flood is), windows and firewall are disabled then you will rule this issue out...

3: Download a wifi scanner, Inssider 2.0 from MetaGeek is pretty good...Check the connection in the area...Look specifically for N-class routers and routers on you wireless channel and change to compensate

4: Ring UPC

Internet is just randomly disconnecting and reconnecting whenever it feels like it. Makes it almost im possible to play Online games.

Hi Guys,

Hoping this is the right place to post. Wondering if anyone could give me some input on this. Yesterday i reset my cisco epc2425 router as i didnt have the password to access it. Soon as i reset it i went in and set up a password for WPA2 PSK security and tried to log on to the net. The laptop (vaio) finds the network, will accept the security code, but wont fully connect to the internet, it shows as "connected: local only".

Strange thing is that myself and my girlfriends smartphones connect to the wi-fi no problem at all. The xbox also connects with no issues. Have you any ideas (in simple terms im not too clever with these kind of things) as to why the laptop will not connect considering it was working fine before i reset the router?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

You haven't said what operating system you're using. I used to have vista and it could be very temperamental when it came to wireless. I seem to remember that there was some way of deleting am individual wireless network and then letting it find it again. This often did the trick in the type of scenario you're describing.

Man these 2425 are bad....anyway I'll ignore the 4ft wireless range problem for now.....my first problem is

I'm tryin to disable IP flooding.
I've read it's under the advanced tab but when clicked it looks for "User Name & Password" but won't accept it. I can get into the setup tab but not Advanced.

I've tried to reset the 2425 and leave user name & passwrod blank but still can't open "Advanced" Tad.

What am I not doing,

Its under the Setup tab, theres a section about half way down the page called Firewall and under that you'll find Options. In there is an option for IP Flood Detection that you can disable.

Hi Guys

Any body having intermittent service where by the Broadband drops off for 10-20 mins and comes back again. I am having this problem ever since the speed change of 15mb to 20mb using the cicso cable router yoke about 6 monhts old. On a new cable and no duff connectors in the loop. I listen to newstalk every morning on my sonos system and it drops off even caused me to be late!!. I also check the phone and its dead also (using a linksys pap2 on blueface). Every thing was grand untill the speed change. Anybody else having this difficulty.:mad::mad:

Sorry yeah its vista alright.. I have gone in and removed the wireless network from the memory which means that it basically picks it up fresh again, put in the password, it connects, but "Local Only" so cant get on to the net. Strangely enough if I remove the security and leave the network open it will connect, but not when I have the password set up. Even though phones, xbox etc will connect no problem even with the password..

So maybe something to do with the password, any type of security and it will connect but local only, remove security and it works grand, any ideas anyone, i would be forever in your debt
