    AN JIG GIG
    Series 2

TG4’s hit show returns with a mission to find the best traditional Irish dancers in Ireland

Last year An Jig Gig burst onto our screens with dancers of all ages, disciplines and codes, battling it out to become Ireland’s best traditional dance act.
In a nail-biting final last December, Irish Beats finally emerged victorious to claim the title of An Jig Gig Champions 2009, triumphing over World Champion Clodagh Roper, Celtic Roots, and The Mark Donnellan Memorial Team.

Now it’s time to begin the search for An Gig Jig Champion 2010!

Hosted by Róisín Ní Thomáin, the show will again see hundreds of acts, from all different styles of Irish dance, and all age groups, take to the stage.

Keeping a close eye on all the talented hopefuls are our 3 judges.

Breandán de Gallaí, former lead dancer with Riverdance, Breandán is used to working with the world’s top Irish dancers. He is a hard man to impress and any dancer going on stage in front of him, aiming to be crowned the best Irish dance act in Ireland, better give the performance of their lives!

Dearbhla Lennon, also a former lead dancer of Riverdance, has experienced performing at the top level in Irish dance for years. Like Breandán, she is an expert in the field, and will quickly weed out the chancers from the talented dancers.

Labhrás Sonaí Choilm Learraí, a champion Sean-nós dancer, and a fanatical supporter of the older styles of Irish dance completes the judging panel. Labhras, a man who knows what he likes, won’t be pulling any punches with such a prestigious prize at stake.

All 3 judges are experts in the field of Irish dance, but will they see eye to eye with such a variety of styles on display? Or will the Riverdancers clash with the Sean-nós? Sparks are sure to fly again on An Jig Gig…..

With all the incredible traditional dance talent in Ireland, no one can know for sure who will emerge victorious. Only one thing is for certain – one act will be crowned champion and will claim the title of best traditional Irish dance act 2010.

To apply to take part in the competition, please visit the programme website at www.tg4.ie/jiggig and fill out the application form.

Please apply early to guarantee your place at the auditions. All applicants will be contacted to confirm a time and venue for their audition.

    Auditions will take place on:
    Friday 7th May: Killarney, 5pm - 8pm
    Saturday 8th May: Cork, 10am - 1pm
    Saturday, 8th May: Limerick, 4pm - 7pm
    Sunday, 9th May: Galway, 10am - 1pm
    Sunday 9th may: Dublin, 4pm - 8pm

**Additional dates and venues may be added.

Successful applicants will be invited to RTE studios in Dublin to take part in the show.

Dates for the recording of the series:

There are 10 "First Round" shows. The "First Round" shows will be recorded over the following dates:

    Wednesday 26th May 2010
    Thursday 27th May 2010
    Friday 28th May 2010
    Wednesday 2nd June 2010
    Thursday 3rd June 2010
    Friday 4th June 2010

One winner will be picked from each of the "First Round" shows.

**Please note, successful applicants will not be required in RTE on all of the above dates. They will only be required for one of the dates to record the "First Round" show they are in.

There are then 3 additional shows to whittle the 10 "First Round" winners down to 1 overall series winner.

The Quarter Final will be recorded in RTE, Dublin, on Thursday 10th June.
The dance acts to make it through to the Semi Final will return to RTE, Dublin on Thursday 17th June 2010.
Finally, the dance acts that have made it all the way to the Series Finale will return to RTE, Dublin on Thursday 24th June 2010.

Any style of Irish dance is eligible for the show. Also, there are no age restrictions on contestants. The number of people in each act is also not restricted, and can range from one upwards.
If you can Irish dance, we want to hear from you now!

For more information please contact Mark at Adare Productions on 01 2843877 or email mark@adareproductions.ie.

    AN JIG GIG

Tar éis iontais na bliana anuraidh tráth ar tugadh damhsóirí Gaelacha den uile chineál agus aois inár láthair, tá An Jig Gig ag filleadh do shéasúr eile.

B'iad Irish Beats a thug an chraobh leo, cé gur chuir na trúpaí eile a shroich an babhta ceannais - Clodagh Roper, Celtic Roots, agus The Mark Donnellan Memorial Team a ndúshlán go maith go dtí an deireadh.

Seo linn arís, mar sin, ar thóir damhsóirí den scoth do shraith 2010.

Is í Róisín Ní Thomáin, a chuirfidh an clár i láthair agus is iad seo leanas na moltóirí:

Breandán de Gallaí, príomhdhamhsóir le Riverdance ar feadh i bhfad agus Stiúrthóir Damhsa leis an seó iontach sin anois. Tá taithí na mblianta ag Breandán ag obair le réalta an damhsa agus aithníonn sé an scoth nuair a fheiceann sé é.

Dearbhla Lennon príomhdhamhsóir le Riverdance, duine de réalta an damhsa sa tír seo le blianta anuas, saineolaí a thuigeann an ealaín.

Labhrás Sonaí Choilm Learraí, fear a bhfuil craobhacha damhsa ar an sean-nós buaite aige agus duine atá thar a bheith dílis don sean stil. Ní chuirfidh Labhrás fiacail ina bhreithiúnas.

Beidh an triúr moltóirí ar thóir ardchaighdeáin, fuinnimh agus spleodair, tréithe atá ar fáil go forleathan ag lucht an damhsa Ghaelaigh. Beidh na scórtha san iomaíocht ach ní bheidh ann ach aon bhuaiteoir amháin, faraor.

Tá cead isteach ag aon damhsóir Gaelach, cuma cén stíl, cuma cén aois, cuma an duine aonair, beirt, triúr nó trúpa atá i gceis.

Má tá steip agat agus fonn iomaíochta ort, bí linn.

Is féidir cur isteach trí chliceáil ar an nasc maidir leis An Jig Gig ar láithreán gréasáin TG4 nó téigh go www.tg4.ie/jiggig.

    Hi Guys,

I’m producing a short film for college, and I am in search of an actor!
The crew is comprised of film students from Griffith College. So far, between the class of 5, we’ve made 10 short films/documentaries.
We’re currently putting together 5 short dramas to be filmed at the end of the month.

The short film is about a young guy shut in in his apartment with his laptop. He starts to hear things and see things that are very out of the ordinary.
He appears to be haunting himself.

Its a very interesting piece, and a bit of fun too.
It would be perfect for any actor looking to expand their showreel - 5 minutes fully dedicated to them!

    I need a young male - late teens/early 20s.

I’ll be hosting a casting session tomorrow evening in Griffith College.

If this part interests you, or you think you know someone that would suit it, please send me a PM asap!

    Anna

    Hi,
Im looking for an actor who can do an English accent for a radio documentary.
Its for my final year college project and the voice Im trying to recreate is of a 50 year old man in 1937 who was born in South Africa but educated in London and I imagine has quite a posh London accent.

If anyone can help please let me know. Cant afford to pay much unfortunatly but you will recieve a copy of the documentary.

7 May 2010; Dublin Youth Theatre (DYT) were delighted to confirm today that they will be hosting a two week summer school, funded by Dublin City Council Integration Office, for young people from immigrant communities between the ages of 14 – 22 who live in Dublin.

    The summer school will be held from 5th – 9th July & 12th – 16th July from 11am – 4pm daily.

The summer school will be facilitated by DYT’s Artistic Director Gary Keegan, also of Brokentalkers Theatre Company. Gary’s practice aims to create new, innovative and accessible live performance that transcends cultural and geographical boundaries, dealing with universal stories of contemporary life. The summer school will be co-facilitated by Róisín McGann, ex-DYT member, Artstrain graduate and Associate Producer with THEATREclub.

The workshops will explore multi-culturalism and participants own experiences of living in a multi-cultural society in keeping with Brokentalker's policy to create work that responds to the contemporary world of which it is a part, and to draw from the skills, experiences and interests of the collective to inform the development of the work.

The project is intended to promote dialogue, interaction and understanding between young members of Dublin’s immigrant community and DYT members through theatre.

It is also intended to act as a means of improving access to Dublin Youth Theatre and the area of Youth Theatre activities in general for young members of immigrant communities.

Fifteen young people from immigrant communities will be selected from workshop auditions (young people do not need to prepare anything in advance) which will be held on Wednesday 26th May from 6pm – 9pm in Dublin Youth Theatre.

Not sure if this is the right place to post, so feel free to move.

I am currently involved in a low budget television show to be shown on channel 201 on Sky (Showcase).

It is a country and western roadshow - filmed in a different pub in a different county per episode. It will take place in a pub with bands playing, interviews etc.

Filming for the first one will be pretty soon - within the next few weeks. It will be in Ballina, Mayo.

Am looking for a comedian to play a role of the moody barman, who could have a minute's banter with the host at the start/ end of each commercial break.

It's a great opportunity to break into tv and if anyone is interested please let me know, send details.

Would be one days filming. We cannot pay anything, but can cover travel costs/expenses.

    Dave

Butchering the Traditional Way presents The Passenger Seat

Auditions Sunday the 31st at 2:00pm-6:00pm, The Unitarian Church, Princes Street, Cork.

Actors needed: 2 males in their twenties, 1 versatile actor good at voices. All must have good comic ability.

An actor gets more than he bargained for when he rides along in Santa's sleigh to research him for a role. Santa isn't quite the jolly old soul most people think of and they risk life and limb delivering unwanted presents to people who very barely make the nice list. The Passenger Seat, a Christmas buddy comedy not intended for small children.

Smaller Characters portrayed by one actor:

    Hammid, a friendly hotdog seller.

Dictator, the ruler of a one party system.

Black Pete, former partner now sworn enemy of Santa Claus.

    Fighter Pilot, an ace pilot.

    Agent, smarmy 80s agent type.

Performance dates 11th and 12th of December at 8:00pm.
Rehearsals Monday and Thursday at 7:00pm-9:00pm.
Venue for both the Unitarian Church.

This is a profit share production. A third of profits go to the venue, the rest are shared between actors and stage manager.

Those interested should email Richard at Phaleg36@yahoo.ie with headshot and CV. Actors are welcome to bring a prepared piece to audition, something comic preferably. Hope to see you there.

    Hi all,

I'm looking for 2 actors for a 20 shot opening sequence i'll be filming this Fri (26th Nov) its part of my college course so unfortunately its unpaid and would probably best suit those building up their showreel footage etc.

Its relatively early days for me on this course so i also want to build up relationships with actors who i could work with again as i'll be filming a few short films during my time on this course and a lot more after.

If you're interested you can either pm me here or for a quicker response email: modestmagnet@gmail.com

Shooting a very short film (5mins) for an exhibition about NAMA @ the end of the month and need 2 actors to play Mulder and Scully from the X-Files.

***Actors do not need to look like Mulder and Scully (in fact ideally they won't!), so it's a pretty open casting...***

Shooting will take 3/4 hours in an indoors, city centre location on the 20th of January.

Unpaid, but food and refreshments will be provided, and it should be kind of fun to shoot. Working from a finished script, but am also open to input/improvisation from actors involved.

If interested, please email headshots/photos to: chriscotimms@gmail.com
    ...thanks!

    Hi,

Myself and two colleagues of mine are producing a 30 min documentary about performing artists in Dublin and Wicklow. Just watching an interview with Daniel Day Lewis today he said something very clever 'your greatest asset is your availability'. Being open in other words. We'd like to listen and see what drives you as a performer. Where you find the mental energy.
We are looking for people of all ages, both male and female. So if you'd like to share your journey with others (the highs AND the lows), what you have learnt along the way. We'd love to hear from you.

Contact: khruken@yahoo.ie or send me a PM with your details and background.

Interviews are being conducted in Dublin and Wicklow from now (Fri 28th Jan until the 3rd March 2011)
