Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I hope you guys are ready for the servers. I was around for the cata and lich King launches and the massive player volume can make the experience pretty ropey.

I never found them too bad tbh but used to be on a fairly dead server, MoP will be my first expansion on a full server.

Never played a Diablo game before so looking forward to it, been trying to read a bit and catch up on story, think I've pretty much got up to date now ^^

Here's a good Youtube playlist of the Diablo story so far, it includes the cinematics from D1, D2, D2 LoD and the main story quests.

    Hi,

So I have my credit card in hand but I can't decide where to purchase from. Normally I buy games direct from the developer, Steam or via whichever digital distributor is selling it but in this case it can only be bought from Blizzard and it costs an extra €20 which I can't afford.

So should I choose Amazon.co.uk or Gamestop.ie? I've never bought from either before. Both have it for similar prices but which involves the least hassle and has the best service?

    Any other recommendations?

You would probably get it quicker from Gamestop.ie, Amazon are fantastic but you wouldn't get it in time for launch day. Gamestop in Dublin and Cork are having midnight launches on the 14'th if that's any use to you ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68 ✭✭Awkward Customer

@CombatCow, yea I was thinking about going to Dublin for the midnight launch but as much as I'd like to I wouldnt have any way back home as the last bus is around 11, that and I've had more than enough of standing around in queues freezing my ass off (for gigs) as a teenager, just the thought of it all of a sudden has frozen my ass. :(

For some reason I'm leaning towards Amazon (no idea why though).

Would there be any customs duty involved in purchasing a game from the UK?

There is no vat to be paid on items from anywhere in the EU.

Amazon is cheaper but you will be waiting a day or two more for delivery.

I would not compare Diablo 3 launch with wow expansion launches. It's a different setup to mmorpg. I would compare it to Starcraft 2 launch. As far as I can remember Starcraft 2 launch was solid, with just few minor things going wrong.

On serious note now: I can't decide, do I go good fellas ham and pineapple pizzas for d3 launch or salami cheese mushrooms.... Hmmmm

Check Amazon and it should say order now and recieve in time for release date. Uusually they ship early so it arrives on the day of release, that's what I did with Skyrim, got it on the day and have heard of people getting games a day early this way.

    Neither.

i'd order in from fourstar or dominoes for the launch.. but ye can bet your arse that this launch will be like EVERY blizzard launch, and ye wont be able to login for at least an hour, then the servers will go down for emergency maintenance for 4 hours, and it'll be 5am before they come back up again, and that pizza you thought about for almost three weeks will just be indigestion brewing into a nightmare about how the servers will constantly go down again when you wake up, or that all your mates have gotten superph4tl3wt while you fell asleep full of pizza!

or maybe they'll have a nice easy everybody's happy launch :D
    ..But i doubt it!

Apparently it's a midnight (so 11:01 pm 14th may for us) euro launch on the 15th.

Well I work on Tuesday and I need to wake up at 4:00 in the morning, so feck all point for me to stay for midnight launch. I will be with my thumb in mouth and other hand on misses tit by 22:00 on Monday night too.
So I am back from work on Tuesday around 12:00 and from then I have booked of till next Monday. Happy days.
I know frozen pizzas are not best but that will do for evening late night sessions :D.

the only downside to that is that you have to sub to wow for a year.. and well, wow has gotten incredibly boring lately. I'd rather fork out the dosh for D3 than resub to wow before MoP is released. At least by then i know for certain i'd have something possibly worth logging in for aside from watching tradetrolls and drama in whatever capitol i'm afk in :D

Still though i see your point, if you're planning on subbing to wow for an extended period anyway it's definitely worth it.

hmmmm a lot of WOW players wont even have idea what diablo 3 is, i liked how WOW gamers were so hyped about SC", but then realised its an RTS game and has nothing to do with WOW style. I am sure there will be same with diablo 3. So if they enjoy wow and have no problem with having sub, then it is a lovely perk to have D3 for free. though i know some people who resubbed wow just because of that deeal... they barely play wow now, but they see it as bargain.

on the other hand i really cant see it being easy to be good at both gammes at same time, both of them are time sinks. like we all know 2xtime sinks at same time do not work!

I still haven't given up trying to find a copy of the CE but I've pretty much lost all hope of it happening.

If anyone can find me a CE i'll send them a game for free... seriously!!!

Tescoentertainment have it on their site. Not sure what the deal is with postage though.
I remember there was a way to order items from it in the past.

Other than that, keep an eye on the Amazon.co.uk listing. It will re-list it for pre-order the odd time if any get cancelled in the meantime.

Interesting, although they only deliver to Northern Ireland. Not much use unfortunately.

Have been watching Amazon alright but nothing as of yet!!

What's the interface like for this game? Does it have its own launcher? Or will it merge with Starcraft?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,315 ✭✭✭Big Knox

Ok this is going to sound desperate (because I am) but let's say someone has the CE on order but isn't overly attached to the thought of it yet. I will trade someone a standard copy of D3 and a brand new Mass Effect 3 N7 CE for it. Hypothetically speaking of course... :pac:

Why do you want it so bad ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,315 ✭✭✭Big Knox

I've been waiting for D3 since D2, actively campaigning for it on some of the bigger sites for years after D2. I got all my friends into gaming with D2 and I had pretty much given up hope before D3 was announced. I can remember where and when I heard the D3 news, I was only home from a pretty major night out and was still drunk. Ended up on vent that morning having not slept and rang pretty much everyone I know that played D2 to tell them the news!!! :pac:

I've read the Sin War books and I know it's a game I will be playing for years. It would feel wrong not to end up with the CE to be honest. However I made a complete balls of it thinking I could wait and pre-order in the local gamestop. :(

blizzards CE are always cool. let alone boxes they come in, savage stuff! i am big diablo fan too. the time i wasted on diablo games is bigger, then i played everything put together :D. so i am sort of looking forward to it now, i am pretty sure he does to. ;)

Yeah it seems people are taking advantage of the demand already. I need to get it but I wouldn't pay over double the price for it, I couldn't justify that unfortunately. :(

It's available on GAME's website too. I think they ship to Ireland.

It wouldn't be the first time for them to cancel a collectors edition order a day or two before it ships though. Happened with the ME3 one.

Yeah I was advised not to go with Game already, they seem to be a mess at the moment but I don't know might have to take the chance maybe.

I think if your laptop is less than 6 years old it should probably be able to run it.

    System requirements here:

Knowing blizzard, they will make sure their game can run on anything: starting from your kettle and ending NASA computer.

So true, was just thinking about this last night after watching that teaser TV trailer. I presume that they'll release the full "launch" or opening cinematic maybe next Tuesday? They've been releasing vids every Tuesday the past while and it will probably be a vid of the Wizard tomorrow, so next Tuesday I reckon will be the opening cinematic.

Seriously cant wait for that! :)

Yea you can drop into other randomers games. You can also open your game up to the public, so others can drop into yours

I believe its similar to the system used in Borderlands - you choose to join other peoples games, based on the current state of that games quest line.
